Viral Conjunctivitis.

Viruses account for 80% of all cases of acute conjunctivitis and adenovirus; enterovirus and herpes virus are the common causative agents. In general, viral conjunctivitis spreads easily. Therefore, to control the spread, it is crucial to quickly diagnose illnesses, strictly implement hand washing laws, and sanitize surfaces. Swelling of the lid margin and ciliary injection are subjective symptoms, and eye discharge is frequently serofibrinous. Preauricular lymph node swelling can occasionally occur. Approximately 80% of cases of viral conjunctivitis are caused by adenoviruses. Adenoviral conj

Ligneous Conjunctivitis Secondary to Viral Conjunctivitis.

Ligneous conjunctivitis is a rare cause of chronic conjunctivitis that may be triggered by ocular insults such as trauma or infections. We present an interesting case of ligneous conjunctivitis caused by a viral infection that responded well to conservative management. Topical cyclosporine and heparin are a good treatment regimen that caused resolution of lesions and prevented recurrences.

Adeno-viral kerato conjunctivitis.

In summer, 1976 an epidemic of Kerato Conjunctivitis commenced in Melbourne, Australia. A total of 422 patients was studied in the adeno-viral clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, from 1976 to 1979. Most patients were referred from the Casualty Department of the hospital, but others came from private practice. A total of 72 cases were adeno-viral with positive cultures. Types 8 and 19 predominated, but sporadic cases of types 1, 3, 4 and 7 were also isolated. Herpes Simplex type 1 was positive in 13 patients. The hospital staff were involved in spread of adeno-virus t

[Viral and chlamydial conjunctivitis].

Viral conjunctivitis is the most common type of conjunctivitis. It is contagious and is predominantly seen as adenovirus-related conjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis (ADV). These infections are the most frequent ocular surface infections and can lead to conjunctival scarring and corneal opacities. Other types of viral conjunctivitis are often secondary to systemic infection and typically resolve spontaneously. Chlamydial conjunctivitis, on the other hand, is dominated by trachoma, which remains endemic in 42 countries and is still the leading cause of infectious blindness worldwide. In indu

[Acute hemorrhagic viral conjunctivitis].

Two cases of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis are described, in which the enterovirus Coxsackie 24 was found by serological examination to be the etiological agent. The virus was important from Nigeria. The patients suffered by the acute hemorrhagic keratoconjuntivitis with transient iritic irritation without the systemic symptoms. Since now this disease with serological verification was not diagnosed in our country. The question of the viral hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and their treatment is discussed. The necessity of virological investigation in inflammations of the anterior segment is stres
