Cryotherapy of the cervix.

Cryotherapy is most useful in treating mild and moderate dysplasia of the ectocervix and symptomatic benign chronic cervicitis. It has almost replaced electrocauterization of the cervix and has reduced the need for conization. Cytology and colposcopy are essential in the selection of patients for this procedure and in evaluating their response to therapy.

Cryotherapy during pregnancy.

Benign cervical alterations causing complaints in 44 pregnant women were cured by cryosurgery in all three trimesters of their pregnancy. Recovery resulted in 41 cases after a single and in three extensive chondylomatous changes, after two treatments. The painless out-patient treatment did not influence pregnancy and the course of delivery. Cryosurgery has advantages over traditional surgical interventions, or using chemical caustic agents and it can be applied throughout pregnancy.

Cryotherapy as a treatment for psoriasis.

There are very few publications on the use of cryotherapy in the treatment of psoriasis. We performed an evaluation to determine its efficacy in small plaque psoriasis. We selected 63 patients who had a clinical diagnosis of chronic plaque-type psoriasis and and for each patient we evaluated two psoriatic plaques of almost the same size and severity on similar areas of the body. [Cryotherapy in retinopathy of prematurity].

Survey of therapeutical and preventive care of premature babies with retinopathy. We observed the children during 10 years (1982-1991). 144 children were cared for various degree of ROP. This number represents 4.5% of unripe babies hospitalized in the pediatric clinic of Faculty hospital in Hradec Králové. The kryopexis was carried out as a model of prevention of ROP in 66 children, where the success arose in 74%.

A 5-year-old white girl had phthiriasis palpebrarum of both upper eyelids. Excellent cooperation by the patient permitted the destruction of adult lice and the nits by cryoapplication under the slit lamp. Cryotherapy seems to be a promising method of treating phthiriasis palpebrarum in a single office visit.
