Gingival recessions are regarded by many people as an esthetical problem. Successively the etiology, the significance and the indications for therapy are discussed. Different kinds of therapy such as oral hygiene instruction, the free gingival graft and various pedicle grafts are explained. Finally it is advocated that surgical kinds of therapy have to be applied with reservedness.

BACKGROUND: The external ear plays a significant aesthetic role in the appearance of the face. Chronological and extrinsic aging effects on the ear lobe get further pronounced since routine surgical aesthetic procedures for the face do not address these morphological changes. Ear adornment with jewelry and piercings further cause sagging of the ear lobe and stretch the ear piercing. Dermal fillers offer a viable option for ear lobe rejuvenation by increasing its volume and addressing the morphological changes with minimal adverse effects or downtime associated with surgery.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the effects of two common methods of overbite reduction on smile esthetics.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective clinical trial was conducted with 32 patients in whom overbite reduction was achieved using a maxillary incisor intrusion arch (18 patients) or flat anterior bite plate (14 patients).
