Embryonic karyotype in recurrent miscarriage with parental karyotypic aberrations.

OBJECTIVE: To assesses chromosomal aberrations in the abortus in recurrent miscarriage, in the presence of parental chromosomal aberrations. … COME MEASURE(S): The incidence of the euploidic and aneuploidic abortuses according to the parental karyotype. RESULT(S): Two hundred three abortuses were successfully karyotyped. In 164 embryos of patients with no parental chromosomal aberrations, 23.2% (38/164) had chromosome aberrations. Of the 39 abortuses karyotyped in patients with chromosomal aberra …

Karyotype evolution of multiple myeloma.

To clarify the karyotype evolution of multiple myeloma (MM), multiple karyotypes of 22 patients with MM were analyzed using G-banding, and their karyotype evolutions were depicted as phylogenetic trees. Eleven patients exhibited highly complex karyotype evolutions, combining branched evolution, linear evolution, parallel evolution and macroevolution. While chromosomal structural abnormalities involving 14q32 were detected at the roots of the phylogenetic trees of karyotype evolution, aneuploidies and the other structural abnormalities were identified in both the initial clones and karyotypical…

An unusual karyotype in preleukemia.

A case of a myeloproliferative disorder classified as preleukemia is described in which the patient developed a single, complicated, abnormal karyotype in 100% of the bone marrow cells (45, XY, -2, -5, -7, -8, -11, -12, -13, -14, + t(2;5), +t(11;12), +t(16;17), +17, plus three or four dicentric markers). The possible significance of these unusual, if not unique, chromosome changes is discussed in relation to hematologic and clinical findings and with particular reference to the existing nonrandom patterns of chromosome changes in myeloproliferative disorders and acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia…

Oligohydramnios syndrome and XYY karyotype.

A case of oligohydramnios syndrome was found to have an XYY karyotype and an inherited 9qh inversion. It is suggested that normal and extra Y chromosomes are a predisposing factor in the aetiology of severe congenital renal anomalies.

Female with 46, XY karyotype.

Disorders of sex development (DSD) are congenital conditions characterized by atypical development of chromosomal, gonadal, and phenotypic sex. 46, XY DSD can result from disorders of testicular development or disorders of androgen synthesis/action. Prophylactic gonadectomy should be considered in patients with 46, XY DSD because of the increased risk of gonadal malignancy. We report two rare cases of 46, XY DSD, including XY pure gonadal dysgenesis and complete androgen insensitivity syndrome, who underwent a prophylactic gonadectomy.

Karyotype is not dead (yet)!

BACKGROUND: While array-comparative genomic hybridization (a-CGH) and next-generation sequencing (NGS or exome) technologies have swiftly spread throughout the medical field, karyotype has gradually lost its leading role among genetic tests. Several international guidelines recommend starting with a-CGH screening then going on with exome analysis when investigating a patient with intellectual disability (ID) and no precise clinical diagnosis. A-CGH and whole exome sequencing increase etiologic diagnoses rate up to 30% in case of ID. However, physicians have to deal with the lack of qualitative…

Constitutional karyotypes in retinoblastoma.

The improvement of chromosome banding techniques has much increased the frequency of detected forms of retinoblastoma. Ten rearrangements involving 13q14 were observed in a series of 105 retinoblastoma patients including: five de novo deletions, one of them with suspected mosaicism; one de novo apparently balanced translocation; four deletions due to three familial insertions. Such a mechanism could account for pedigrees showing transmission of the tumor through unaffected carriers. Apparently unrelated rearrangements were also observed. Clinical aspects of these constitutional rearrangements

Karyotypes in infectious mononucleosis.

Using a trypsin-Giemsa banding procedure, chromosome analysis was performed on blood from 21 consecutive patients hospitalized for infectious mononucleosis. Mitoses were harvested after 2 and 24 h in vitro incubation without PHA and after 48 h with PHA. No abnormalities were seen.

Karyotyping, is it worthwhile in transsexualism?

INTRODUCTION: Karyotyping is often performed in transsexual individuals. AIM: Quantification and characterization of karyotype findings and abnormalities in transsexual persons. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Karyotypes were listed both in male-to-female and in female-to-male transsexual persons. METHODS: The data were collected through a retrospective study. RESULTS: Karyotypes of 368 transsexual individuals (251 male-to-female, 117 female-to-male) are described. Normal findings were found in 97.55%. Prevalence of abnormal karyotypes was 3.19% among male-to-female, and 0.85% among female-to-male …
