BACKGROUND: This study characterized the risk of new-onset asthma among workers in Manitoba, Canada.
METHODS: Accepted time loss claims from the Workers' Compensation Board of Manitoba from 2006 to 2019, containing workers' occupations and industries, were linked with administrative health data from 1996 to 2020. BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is associated with occupational high-force repetitive tasks and vibration. INTRODUCTION: This exploratory study aimed to assess contact dermatitis (CD) risk among workers using the Manitoba Occupational Disease Surveillance System (MODSS).

A group of 76 cattle farmers from southern Manitoba answered the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute questionnaire on respiratory symptoms and supplementary questions on farming and farming-related syndromes. Four seven month old Simmental calves were examined because of unthriftiness, a persistent cough, stiffness and lameness. The calves had gastrointestinal and pulmonary parasitism. Analysis of the blood copper levels of these calves and of cows and calves on the farm indicated a generalized deficiency. Only the calves affected with parasitism showed signs of clinical copper deficiency.

An outbreak of 82 cases of infectious syphilis (primary, secondary, and early latent) which occurred in 1984 in the province of Manitoba was analyzed by age, sex, geographic distribution, and stage of disease. In the preceding four years, from 1980-1983, there were 19, 24, 13, and 32 cases, respectively, of infectious syphilis, of which 89% involved males.
