In conducting double diffusion gel precipitation tests, unexpected, strong precipitation reactions were noticed between a serum originating from a renal graft recipient and many pathological human sera. The highest frequency of positive reactions were produced by sera of patients with infectious mononucleosis (83%), chronic Epstein-Barr virus infections (72%), rheumatoid arthritis (57%), lepromatous leprosy (57%), and AIDS (44%). The precipitin in these pathological sera was identified as an antibody of IgM variety and the precipitinogen in the transplantation serum was shown to be a thermosta

Four fractions, fraction A,B, C, and D, were isolated from the aqueous extract of wheat flour on a Sephadex G-75 column. It was found that the repeated gel-filtrated fraction A reacts as an antigen with the sera of coeliac patients. On the basis of its molecular weight and amino acid compositions, it is gliadin. Each of the 28 coeliac patients had heat-stable precipitating antibody and higher than normal IgE levels were found in the sera of only three individuals. Specific antigliadin IgE in low quantity was found in only one case. The sera reacting with antigens in high titres were absorbed b

Seminal plasma was tested against purified C1q by double diffusion. Precipitation reactions were frequently observed in the seminal plasma of patients with normozoospermia and patients with azoospermia; most of these reactions were not due to soluble immune complexes binding to C1q. A factor resistant to DNAse and RNAse (mol wt: 25,000--150,000 daltons) was found to precipitate C1q. Its discovery adds to the list of substances which may interfere in C1q precipitation tests.

Definitive diagnosis of pulmonary aspergillosis is difficult to establish. Thus, confirmative evidence of active fungal aggression is imperative. In this study, an immunodiffusion test was carried out on 36 cases of pulmonary aspergillosis and two groups of subjects comprising 133 patients with non-fungal diseases and 134 healthy volunteers as controls. The test was positive in 92.3% of the patients with mycetoma, in 50% of the patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, and in 25% of the patients with invasive aspergillosis. Results were negative in all subjects in the two control
