Plain radiographs are often taken to localize fishbones which lodge in the pharynx. In this study a pig's neck was used to determine the radio-opacity of 14 different species of fishbones. Radiographs were taken with bones placed in up to four of the common sites of impaction and assessed on two occasions independently by two previously uninvolved ENT consultants. The visibility of the fishbones was scored. Inter and intra-observer agreement for species and site was determined. Thirty-three patients with congenital radio-ulnar synostosis were examined. There was one familial predisposition. Chromosomal patterns were examined in seventeen patients and were normal. Bone maturation appeared normal. The radial deviation angle, in the patients whose distal radial epiphysis had closed, was elevated (Madelung's deformity). We reported here the data on minimally invasive radio-guided parathyroidectomy (MIRP) in a large group of 253 patients enrolled from the whole series of 355 consecutive patients affected by primary hyperparathyroidism (P-HPT) referred to our center.
