Traumatic ruptures of the triangular fibrocartilaginous complex (TFCC) may cause ulnar-sided wrist pain. These ruptures frequently lead to instability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) because the ulnoradial ligaments, which are interwoven with the TFCC, are avulsed from the fovea of the ulnar head or-very rarely-from the radius. Conservative treatment may be sufficient, and some instability may be tolerated over time. In the case of persistent pain, operative repair by reattachment of the TFCC and, thereby, the ligaments to the previously debrided bone in the fovea is effective in reestab

Immediately after a tendon repair, the tendon contributes nothing to the strength of repair. During that time, the suture itself and suture … latively strong, such as Supramid or prolene, are the most desirable materials available. Regarding suture techniques, the lateral trap and end-weave techniques produce the strongest repairs; however, the end-weave technique can only be used with tendon grafts and the lateral trap, though it can be used for end-to-end primary repairs. It is too bulky for use in the …

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the biomechanical performance of whip-stitch (WS) and simple suture techniques (SST) of the long head of the biceps tendon in suprapectoral intraosseous tenodesis with interference screw fixation.
METHODS: A total of 10 paired cadavers (61.1 ± 4.6 years) were randomized to receive WS or SST biceps tenodesis beginning at the musculotendinous junction. Both groups implemented a No. 2 FiberLoop wire and underwent suprapectoral fixation with a polyetheretherketone interference screw at the bicipital grove. A Materials Testing System performed cycli…

AIM: The aim of the study was to compare the outcome, complications and costs of three skin suture techniques after Caesarean section.
METHODS: The study sample was 310 women who underwent caesarean section between 2003 and 2007. The sample was divided into three groups: an intradermal suture with non-reabsorbable thread was applied in 98; metallic clips were placed in 90; 2-octyl-cyanoacrylate (2-OCA) glue was used for wound closure in 112. The sutures were checked at 4 days and 2 months after the operation to determine cosmetic outcome, patient compliance, strength of incision closure, alle…

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of a suture technique called septoalar suspension suture (SASS) on the nasolabial angle (NLA).
METHODS: Between 2017 and 2023, 64 patients who were operated using this suture technique were objectively evaluated by measuring their NLAs preoperatively and more than 1 year postoperatively. Besides, patient satisfaction was evaluated subjectively by filling out the rhinoplasty outcome evaluation (ROE) questionnaire preoperatively and more than 1 year postoperatively.
RESULTS: A total of 64 patients were included in the study. There were 29 male and 35

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) with fundoplication (POEM-F) combines POEM with endoscopic fundoplication to prevent postprocedural gastroesophageal reflux. The conventional techniques using the loop-ligating device can be technically challenging, with durability issues. Endoscopic suturing may address these limitations. We describe 2 novel suture-based techniques for fundoplication after POEM.
METHODS: Two patients with type II achalasia underwent POEM-F using suture-based fundoplication approaches.
RESULTS: In the first case, an over-the-scope suturing system was use

BACKGROUND: Although many studies involving rotator cuff repair fixation have focused on ultimate fixation strength and ability to restore the tendon's native footprint, no studies have characterized the stability of the repair with regard to motion between the tendon and repair site footprint.
HYPOTHESIS: Suture anchor fixation for rotator cuff repair has greater interface motion between tendon and bone than does transosseous suture fixation.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: Twelve fresh-frozen human cadaveric shoulders were tested in a custom device to position the shou

PurposeThis study aimed to assess the effectiveness of an innovative intrastromal suturing technique in an experimental rabbit model, comparing it to standard interrupted suturing, loose suture, and suturing with knot exposure.MethodsFourteen adult male New Zealand White rabbits were included in this study. Each rabbit underwent suturing in both eyes, divided into four groups based on suturing techniques. The novel intrastromal suturing technique involved burying the entire suture material within the corneal stroma. Corneal neovascularisation (CoNV) areas were evaluated by image analysis and i

BACKGROUND Hepaticojejunostomy is a common biliary reconstruction procedure in hepatobiliary surgery. The suture technique plays a key role in the procedure. The conventional suture technique is complex and time-consuming. To facilitate the procedure, we performed it with a modified suture technique. In the present study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of the technique in hepaticojejunostomy. MATERIAL AND METHODS We enrolled 120 adult patients who underwent hepaticojejunostomy. The patients were divided into a conventional group and a modified suture group according to the suture techniq

BACKGROUND: To compare the effectiveness of tenocutaneous suture and conventional Kessler suture techniques in treating acute closed Achilles tendon rupture.
METHODS: A total of 33 patients with acute closed Achilles tendon rupture who were admitted to our hospital from February 1998 to December 2008 underwent repair with either a tenocutaneous suture or Kessler suture technique. All patients were followed up for 1-5 years (mean, 3 years).
RESULTS: According to the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot scale, the excellence rate was 91% in the Kessler suture group and 98…

BACKGROUND: The biomechanical properties of the 1.2-mm suture tape have outperformed conventional sutures in previous studies.
PURPOSE: To compare the loop and knot security of 2 tape-type and 1 cord-type sutures using different arthroscopic knot techniques.

METHODS: The biomechanical characteristics of the 1.2-mm tape, 2.0-mm tape, and 0.5-mm No. 2 suture were compared using 4 different knot types: 2 sliding knots (Samsung Medical Center [SMC] and Tennessee) and 2 nonsliding knots (2-throw surgeon's and 2-throw square) with 2 and 3 additional reve

Effective drain fixation is a crucial step of drainage procedures, directly impacting both patient safety and postoperative outcomes. This manuscript reviews commonly-employed suture techniques for drain securement, emphasizing comparative advantages in terms of time, security, and tissue response. We detail suture material selection, including common types such as silk, nylon, and prolene, and outline the execution and clinical considerations of 6 core techniques: the air knot, Roman Sandle, Reverse Stitch, Bumper Stitch, Purse String, and Double D stitches. Based on the authors' institutiona…

BACKGROUND: Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) has traditionally been a source of significant morbidity and potential mortality after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). Both patient-derived and technical factors contribute to pancreatic anastomotic failure. The continuous suture duct-to-mucosa pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) described previously is associated with a low rate of POPF. The aim of the present study was to observe whether the new technique would effectively reduce the POPF rate in comparison with conventional interrupted suture duct-to-mucosa PJ.
METHODS: Data on 255 consecutive pati
