B Vitamin Complex and Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this mini review is to evaluate the literature on B vitamins and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. RECENT FINDINGS: One hundred and five journal articles were evaluated and nine manuscripts were included. There was one in vitro, one was an animal and seven were human studies. The in vitro study was a safety study on vitamin B6 and oxaliplatin which was not directly related to CIPN. The animal study evaluated vitamin B3 on paclitaxel administration with positive results. The human studies varied using a vitamin B complex, vitamin B12 only and vitamin…

Exploring neuropsychiatric manifestations of vitamin B complex deficiencies.

B complex vitamins, a group of eight water-soluble vitamins, play interconnected roles in maintaining nervous system health. Thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), and niacin (B3) are essential as co-enzymes in numerous metabolic reactions related to energy production. Thiamine is involved in the Krebs cycle, riboflavin in the electron transport chain, and niacin plays a key role in both glycolysis and the Krebs cycle. These metabolic processes are vital for sustaining the integrity of the nervous system, as the energy produced is critical for the functioning of nerve cells. Deficiencies in these vit

CHOLINE AS A MEMBER OF THE VITAMIN B(2) COMPLEX.

The experimental rations commonly used in studies on the vitamin B(2) complex are, as a rule, low in content of choline. Addition of vitamin B(6) has an aggravating influence on the specific effect of deficiency of choline, especially with regard to the development of cortical necrosis of the kidneys. The acute and subacute lesions associated with this specific type of renal injury are described. The renal lesions and fat infiltration of the liver, observed in rats kept on a vitamin B free diet, supplemented with thiamine, riboflavin and vitamin B(6), are indistinguishable from those attribute

[Vitamin B complex and homocysteine in chronic renal failure].

Metabolic, biochemical, and hormonal changes occur in chronic renal failure usually associated with hyponutrition states. In predialysis patients, knowing the nutritional state about water-soluble vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, pyridoxine, cianocobalamine, and folic acid is becoming more and more important since some of the manifestations of chronic renal failure may be due to the deficiency of some of these water-soluble vitamins. The metabolic pathways in which most of these vitamins participate are interrelated and it is difficult to understand how the individual deficits of each vi

Pellagra encephalopathy following B-complex vitamin treatment without niacin.

Pellagra is caused by nicotinic acid deficiency; it is rarely encountered in developed countries, and it is mainly related to poverty and malnutrition, as well as with chronic alcoholism. We report the case of an alcoholic patient who was diagnosed with pellagra and administered B-complex vitamin tablets that did not contain niacin. A few weeks later, the patient developed nervousness, irritability, insomnia and, consequently, delusional ideas and hallucinations, for which he had to be hospitalized. After his admission, the patient manifested loss of consciousness and myoclonus. All of his sym
