Laparotomy was performed on 36 patients with persistent "adhesion complaints". Good therapeutic success was obtained from detachment of omental adhesions on the abdominal wall and of omental cords from the minor pelvis as well as from adhesiolysis in the hypogastric region. No peritoneal adhesions at all were recorded from nine patients, although they had undergone several operations before. Complaints were removed from one third of all patients, while nearly 20 per cent were improved. One death occurred, following exploratory laparotomy, due to stress-induced ulcer perforation. No peritoneal

The study of 8 C. diphtheriae strains of different origin revealed that these strains were capable of inducing the agglutination of trypsinized sheep red blood cells (SRBC). Toxigenic strains gravis isolated from diphtheria patients were more active in their adhesion to SRBC than toxigenic strains gravis isolated from carriers. The latter were, in their turn, more active than nontoxigenic strains mitis. No fimbriae were detected on the cell surface by electron microscopy.

Four cases of congenital duodenal adhesions are reported. Primary treatment was the freeing of adhesions, but gastrojejunostomy was also necessary in one patient. The patients have now been followed for from 6 months to 3 1/2 years after operation, and are all well. Diagnois is difficult and can be confused with ulcer. In 2 patients, preoperative differential diagnois included duodenal adhesions, but the other 2 patients underwent laparotomy on the prospective diagnosis of duodenal ulcer.

Intrauterine adhesions are a serious complication that occurs after intrauterine procedures, most often in connection with pregnancy. Manifestations such as amenorrhea, pelvic pain, and infertility for a woman, especially in reproductive age, are serious and together with intrauterine adhesions we call them Asherman's syndrome. Primary prevention after intrauterine procedures is important. Published studies show that the use of hyaluronic acid gel, especially after abortions, leads to the prevention of moderate and severe intrauterine adhesions and also increases the pregnancy rate.

Ocular diseases and treatment related to rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) are highly correlated with retinal adhesion behavior. Therefore, this paper proposes to study the adhesion behavior of the intact retina. This can provide theoretical guidance for the treatment and research of retinal detachment (RD) related diseases. To systematically analyze this aspect, two experiments were performed on the porcine retina. The pull-off test combined with the modified JKR theory was used to study the adhesion behavior of the vitreoretinal interface, while the peeling test was used to study the a

PURPOSE: Adhesive capsulitis of the hip (ACH) is not a well-defined disease entity. We evaluated the change in the clinical features of patients whose chief complaint was inability to sit cross-legged on the floor. All patients had painful limitation in hip joint motion. Based on the diagnosis of ACH, active stretching exercise (ASE) was recommended.
METHODS: In February 2013 and June 2014, a total of 44 patients (50 hips), who visited outpatient clinic in 2011, were evaluated by telephone interviews. Recovery of hip motion was analyzed according to compliance with ASE and abnormalities found

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical presentation, laboratory findings, and response to treatment in girls with labial adhesion younger than 23 months.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review of all girls younger than 23 months with the diagnosis of labial adhesion was referred to Dr Sheikh children's clinic in Mashhad in northeast Iran between 1998 and 2013.
RESULTS: Sixty-three patients were diagnosed with labial adhesion during the review period. Most patients were diagnosed by physicians during the physical examination or during the evaluation for t

Postoperative peritoneal adhesions are common sequelae of abdominal surgery. Acute as well as chronic complications, including bowel obstruction, abdominal pain and infertility can arise from adhesion formation. So far, the only reliable treatment is surgical adhesiolysis, which in turn is accompanied by an increased risk of adhesion recurrence. Despite significant progress in modern perioperative medicine, only limited prophylactic approaches are available and atraumatic surgery is still the most important factor.Current research concepts focus on two major antiadhesion strategies: firstly, t

Desmosomes are intercellular junctions that provide strong adhesion or hyper-adhesion in tissues. Here, we discuss the molecular and structural basis of this with particular reference to the desmosomal cadherins (DCs), their isoforms and evolution. We also assess the role of DCs as regulators of epithelial differentiation. New data on the role of desmosomes in development and human disease, especially wound healing and pemphigus, are briefly discussed, and the importance of regulation of the adhesiveness of desmosomes in tissue dynamics is considered.

As our population ages and the rate of spine surgery continues to rise, the use epidural lysis of adhesions (LOA) has emerged as a popular treatment to treat spinal stenosis and failed back surgery syndrome. There is moderate evidence that percutaneous LOA is more effective than conventional ESI for both failed back surgery syndrome, spinal stenosis, and lumbar radiculopathy. For cervical HNP, cervical stenosis and mechanical pain not associated with nerve root involvement, the evidence is anecdotal. The benefits of LOA stem from a combination of factors to include the high volumes administere

Adhesive arachnoiditis is a rare disease with insidious course. It causes damage of the spinal cord and nerve roots. The causes of adhesive arachnoiditis include earlier traumatic injury of the spinal cord, surgery, intrathecal administration of therapeutic substances (e.g. anaesthetics, chemotherapy) or contrast media, bleeding, and inflammation. It can also be idiopathic or iatrogenic. We present the case of a 42-year-old patient with fulminant adhesive arachnoiditis which was provoked by spinal surgery and caused severe neurological disability with profound, progressive, flaccid paraparesis
