A rare case of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in an elderly female.

Nasopharyngeal angiofibromas occur predominantly in males in their puberty and adolescence; the incidence in other age groups and in women is exceptional. This report describes a case of a 57-year-old woman with nasopharyngeal angiofibroma presenting typical radiological findings in computed tomography, MR imaging and angiography. The tumour was successfully removed and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis. In 6 years follow-up the patient is free of symptoms.

A rare complication of embolization in juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is one of the most common benign nasal cavity tumors of adolescence. It exhibits a strong tendency to bleed and despite being microscopically benign, its behavior is locally aggressive. Preoperative embolization is helpful to minimize intraoperative bleeding. However, embolization procedure may have some important thromboembolic complications such as central retinal artery occlusion. In this article, a young male with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, who lost his vision in the left eye following embolization was presented and the possible therape

[Juvenile angiofibroma of the nasopharynx--clinical diagnosis and therapy].

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is an infrequent epipharyngeal tumour necessitating particular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in comparison to other benign epipharyngeal tumours due to its expansive growth tendency. Our retrospective study is aimed at presenting clinical casuistry of the tumour in order to evaluate modern diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities. The study included 13 male patients, aged 13-24 years, who were hospitalized, diagnostically assessed and surgically treated at the Institute of Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery, Clinical Centre of Serbia over

Cellular angiofibroma of the vulva with DNA ploidy analysis.

Cellular angiofibroma (CAF) is a recently described rare soft tissue neoplasm of the vulva (with only four reported cases) that typically occurs as a well-circumscribed solid rubbery vulvar mass in middle-aged women. The distinct histologic features of bland spindle cells admixed with numerous hyalinized medium to small blood vessels, and a vimentin-positive desmin-negative immunoprofile differentiates this neoplasm from other vulvar tumors such as angiomyofibroblastoma and aggressive angiomyxoma. In this report an additional case of CAF is presented with DNA ploidy analysis and CD99 immunohis

Timed surgery for treatment of angiofibromas in tuberous sclerosis.

Angiofibromas are neoformations frequently occurring on the face of patients affected by tuberous sclerosis. Traditional methods of treating angiofibromas, such as curettage, dermabrasion, chemical peeling, cryosurgery, and laser are not entirely successful as they frequently lead to scarring and pigmentary change. We report the successful use of timed surgery, a novel electrosurgical procedure, in treating multiple angiofibromas. The technique is easy to use and very cost effective.

Genital angiofibromas in tuberous sclerosis: two cases.

Cutaneous lesions are an important feature of tuberous sclerosis (TS). Facial angiofibromas usually begin to appear at the end of the first decade of life and are considered to occur in about 88% of adults with TS. They are only rarely reported on sites other than the face or front. In this paper, we report two patients with the complete syndrome of TS that had, in addition to classic facial lesions, multiple papules on the genital area. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of angiofibroma. One patient's lesions were misdiagnosed as genital warts and were so being treated before the correct

Pre-operative embolization of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas.

Pre-operative embolization of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma was performed in 15 patients. The lesion was supplied by the internal carotid arteries (8 cases), by the internal maxillary artery (15 cases), the accessory meningeal artery (10 cases) and the ascending pharyngeal artery (10 cases). Superselective embolization of the external carotid artery feeders was performed with Ivalon particles, without neurological complications. Good control of per-operative blood loss was noted in 13 out of 15 cases, 2 patients presenting severe per-operative venous bleeding. Recurrence was noted in on

Molecular Mechanisms of Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma: A Narrative Review.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA), a rare vascular tumor in adolescent males, involves dysregulated angiogenesis and hormonal interplay. Key molecular drivers include HIF-1α, VEGF, bFGF, and β-catenin, promoting tumor growth via pathways like Wnt/β-catenin and Ras signaling. Androgens and estrogen modulate progression, though mechanisms remain debated. Targeted therapies reduce tumor proliferation and vascularity in preclinical studies, yet clinical translation is hindered by drug resistance and inconsistent biomarker expression. Hormonal and MMP-targeted approaches also show potentia

Large Paratesticular Cellular Angiofibroma: Imaging Findings and Pathological Correlation.

Cellular angiofibroma is a rare benign tumor that typically occurs in the genitourinary region and may be difficult to distinguish from other scrotal masses. We report a case of a 41-year-old man presenting with a slowly enlarging, painless scrotal swelling. Imaging demonstrated a well-defined extratesticular lesion without clear features of malignancy. The patient underwent surgical excision with preservation of surrounding structures. Histological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of cellular angiofibroma, with no evidence of aggressive behavior. This case highlights the importance of consi

Recurrent Pediatric Extranasopharyngeal Angiofibroma of the Epiglottis: Case Report.

Angiofibroma is a non-encapsulated, highly vascular tumor that usually originates in the nasopharynx. Laryngeal cases of extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma (ENA) are a very rare pathology, especially in children. Only eight ENA laryngeal cases have been described in the literature, and only one of them is a pediatric case. In this report we present an 11-year-old child with epiglottic ENA resected with transoral endoscopic ultrasonic surgery (TOUSS) with review of the literature. Because of reccurrence after five months he underwent re-excision with CO2 laser. Recurrences in ENA are infrequent,

Inhibition of CK2 Reduces NG2 Expression in Juvenile Angiofibroma.

Juvenile angiofibroma (JA) is a rare fibrovascular neoplasm predominately found within the posterior nasal cavity of adolescent males. JA expresses the proteoglycan nerve-glial antigen (NG)2, which crucially determines the migratory capacity of distinct cancer cells. Moreover, it is known that the protein kinase CK2 regulates NG2 gene expression. Therefore, in the present study, we analyzed whether the inhibition of CK2 suppresses NG2-dependent JA cell proliferation and migration. For this purpose, we assessed the expression of NG2 and CK2 in patient-derived JA tissue samples, as well as in pa

Variable expression of molecular markers in juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

BACKGROUND: Molecular categorisation may explain the wide variation in the clinical characteristics of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. METHODS: Variations in molecular markers in juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in an Indian population were investigated and compared with global reports. RESULTS: Variable molecular marker expression was demonstrated at the regional and global levels. A wide variation in molecular characteristics is evident. Molecular data have been reported for only 11 countries, indicating a clear geographical bias. Only 58 markers have been studied, and most are y

Nasal juvenile angiofibroma: Current perspectives with emphasis on management.

Juvenile angiofibroma is an uncommon, benign, locally aggressive vascular tumor. It is found almost exclusively in young men. Common presenting symptoms include nasal obstruction and epistaxis. More advanced tumors may present with facial swelling and visual or neurological disturbances. The evaluation of patients with juvenile angiofibroma relies on diagnostic imaging. Preoperative biopsy is not recommended. The mainstay of treatment is resection combined with preoperative embolization. Endoscopic surgery is the approach of choice in early stages, whereas, in advanced stages, open or endoscop

Coblation-assisted endonasal endoscopic resection of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

OBJECTIVE: Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma may be successfully resected using endoscopic techniques. However, the use of coblation technology for such resection has not been described. This study aimed to document cases of Fisch class I juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma with limited nasopharyngeal and nasal cavity extension, which were completely resected using an endoscopic coblation technique. METHODS: We retrospectively studied 23 patients with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma who underwent resection with either traditional endoscopic instruments (n = 12) or coblation (n = 11).
