Large pedunculated angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva with concomitant anemia: a case report and mini review of the literature.

Angiomyofibroblastoma is a rare myxoid tumor and is often seen in vulvar and vaginal area. Patients usually present with a mass on the vulva or labium majus at the premenopausal ages. The lesions are usually between 0.5 cm and ten cm. Lesions have quite cellularity with regular borders under the microscope. Lesions contain numerous veins and bulging stromal cells. Treatment of angiomyofibroblastoma is simple surgical resection. Angiomyofibroblastoma should be differentiated from the other vulvar neoplasms, which need radical surgical treatment, especially from the aggressive angiomyxoma. Hereb

Uterine angioleiomyoma: A rare variant of uterine leiomyoma--A case report and literature review.

Uterine angioleiomyoma (AL) is an extremely rare variant of leiomyoma and only 15 cases have been reported till date. Herein we present a case of AL of the uterus in a 39-year-old multiparous female with polymenorrhagia and pain abdomen. A pelvic ultrasonogram showed a large heterogeneously hypoechoic intramural nodule in the posterior myometrium. The patient underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy. Histological examination of the nodule revealed a moderately cellular spindle cell tumor composed of interlacing fascicles of spindle to plump cells swirling around the thick walled vessels. No hy

A rare case of male breast cavernous-type angioleiomyoma.

Cutaneous leiomyomas of the breast are extremely rare, particularly in men. Leiomyomas are categorized into three groups: angioleiomyomas, pilar leiomyomas and genital leiomyomas. Angioleiomyomas, or vascular leiomyomas, are benign tumors arising from smooth muscle cells of arterial or venous walls. We report the case of a 70-year-old man who was admitted to the surgery unit because of a painful lump in the left periareolar region. Ultrasound investigation showed a well-delimited, hyperechogenic, inhomogeneous nodular lesion. The final diagnosis was made after surgical excision and pathologica

A large vascular leiomyoma or an infected sebaceous cyst of the chest? A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Vascular leiomyoma is a rare tumour of smooth muscle origin. It has been reported in many anatomical sites, but it usually affects limbs. It's recurrence rate is slow but it's quite difficult to make diagnosis. CASE REPORT: The study describes the case of a 53-year-old man, with a subcutaneous, large vascular leiomyoma of the right clavicular region. The patient had a painful, slow-growing mass, measuring more than 20 mm. The mass had a relatively homogeneous, hypoechoic-echo texture, with a small amount of posterior acoustic enhancement. No diagnosis was made and the patient un

Angioleiomyoma in the ankle mimicking tarsal tunnel syndrome: a case report and review of the literature.

We present the case of a 64-year-old woman with a subcutaneous vascular leiomyoma in the tarsal tunnel in the ankle. The patient presented with pain of several years' duration in the medial aspect of the ankle in the retromalleolar region corresponding to the tarsal tunnel and associated with a subcutaneous mass. We report the clinical manifestation, the imaging and histopathologic features, and a review of the literature. Vascular leiomyomas are part of the differential diagnosis of painful subcutaneous masses in the lower extremity.

[Vascular leiomyoma mimicking a carotid body tumor].

Vascular leiomyomas are composed of smooth muscle cells and vascular endothelium. They are rarely seen in the head and neck region. A 32-year-old woman presented with a slowly-growing pulsatile mass in the right upper jugular region. Angiography showed a mass in the carotid bifurcation. It was not extensively vascularized, but displaced the internal and external carotid arteries. After neck exploration, the lesion was totally resected without any complications. Histopathologic diagnosis was vascular leiomyoma. No recurrence was detected during a two-year follow-up.

Acral calcified vascular leiomyoma of the skin: a rare clinicopathological variant of cutaneous vascular leiomyomas: report of 3 cases.

BACKGROUND: Several histopathologic variants of cutaneous leiomyomas have been recognized. In our consultation dermatopathology practice, we encountered a variant of cutaneous leiomyoma which, to our knowledge, has not been reported. OBJECTIVE: We report 3 cases of vascular leiomyomas, all of them manifesting prominent intratumoral calcifications dominating over the residuum of the tumors and occurring on the acral sites. METHODS: We conducted a clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study, which is complemented by a literature review. RESULTS: All 3 patients were women ranging in age

Small soft tissue masses indeterminate at imaging: histological diagnoses at a tertiary orthopedic oncology clinic.

OBJECTIVE: To review histologic diagnoses of soft-tissue masses (STMs) ≤ 2 cm with indeterminate imaging features encountered in musculoskeletal oncology clinic at a tertiary referral center. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was an IRB-approved retrospective review of patients with STMs ≤ 2 cm, referred to our tertiary care orthopedic oncology clinic over 4.75 consecutive years. Maximum diameter was based on imaging measurement by a fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologist. Simple lipomas, synovial cysts, metastases, and cases without histologic confirmation were excluded. Patient demographi

Acral Angioleiomyoma With Tumoral Calcinosis: A Rare Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Angioleiomyoma is a benign, pericytic (perivascular) neoplasm that most frequently arises in the dermis or subcutis of the lower extremities. Extensive calcification is extremely uncommon in this condition. CASE REPORT: An 80-year-old woman presented with a 20-year history of a slowly growing, painless mass in the dorsomedial aspect of the left great toe. Physical examination revealed a 2.5-cm, firm, mobile, non-tender mass. Radiographs showed a well-demarcated, densely calcified mass. Computed tomography confirmed the presence of a calcified lesion without bone involvement. M

Epidural angioleiomyoma: an extraordinary cause of compressive myelopathy-MRI findings with histopathological correlation.

BACKGROUND: Angioleiomyomas are benign mesenchymal tumors usually located in the limbs, with anecdotal reports in the spine. We present an atypical case of an epidural spine angioleiomyoma presenting with compressive myelopathy symptoms. The diagnosis was suggested based on MRI findings, and subsequently confirmed histopathologically. RESULTS: This is the first known occurrence of pure spinal epidural angioleiomyoma as a source of compressive myelopathy. The imaging presentation, especially the 'dark reticular sign' on MRI, was crucial in suggesting the diagnosis despite the atypical location

A rare case of lacrimal sac angioleiomyoma managed with dacryocystectomy and turbinectomy.

We report a rare case of a lacrimal sac angioleiomyoma. A 56-year-old woman complained of pain in the right medial canthal region over a period of 2 years. There were no complaints of epiphora or ocular infection, and no visible or palpable masses in the medial canthal region. Computed tomography scan revealed a solid tumor of the lacrimal sac expanding to the nasolacrimal duct and protruding under the inferior turbinate. The tumor was removed by external dacryocystectomy combined with endonasal, endoscopic anterior turbinectomy, and nasal mucosal resection. Histological and immunohistological

Acral Calcified Vascular Leiomyoma: Report of 3 Cases and Literature Review.

Angioleiomyomas are benign neoplasms, which usually present as solitary, slow-growing nodules on the skin of lower extremities, but acral location on the hands or feet is unusual. Yet, microscopically, they may show many histopathological variants, focal calcification is uncommon. Extensive calcification masquerading the real nature of the tumor has been rarely reported, the term acral calcified leiomyoma having been proposed for this entity. This change is more often in distal locations and has been interpreted as degenerative in nature, probably related to repetitive minor trauma. We report

Angiomyofibroblastoma of the mediastinum: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMFB) is an extremely rare disease. It commonly occurs in middle-aged females and mainly involves the vulvovaginal region. Pathological examination plays an important role in differentiating from other tumors. But far less published literature focus on the imaging characteristics of AMFB. CLINICAL FINDINGS/DIAGNOSES: We reported a case of AMFB in a 73-year-old male, involving the mediastinum with computed tomography (CT) imaging and pathologic findings. Preoperative unenhanced CT scan of chest revealed a 6.9 × 7.4 × 9.3 cm mass with equal density, located

Rare mimicry of meningioma: angioleiomyoma of the falx.

BACKGROUND: Angioleiomyomas (ALMs) are benign soft tissue tumors composed of various size vessels with abundant intervening smooth muscles. Intracranial ALMs are exceedingly rare with 12 reported cases to date presenting as extracerebral masses that mimic cerebral cavernous malformation or meningiomas. OBJECTIVE: We report a case of intracranial ALM of the falx cerebri imitating an atypical meningioma or hemangiopericytoma. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features and perfusion-weighted MRI revealed special features that may be helpful to distinguish ALMs from menin

Giant laryngeal angioleiomyomas: a case report with review of literature.

We report a recently encountered case of vascular leiomyoma in the larynx, a benign tumor that is rare in the organ, in a 52-year-old man. Chief complaints were a progressive hoarseness, laryngeal pain, deglutitive uncomfortableness and dyspnea in the supine position. Laryngoscope revealed many spherical tumors interlacing together with a smooth surface, measuring approximately 2x4 cm and covered with normal mucosa, found at the side of laryngeal epiglottis from its margin to supraglottis. Tracheotomy was performed under local anesthesia, and laryngosurgery was then carried out under general a
