Brain reward response in adolescents and young adults with anorexia nervosa is moderated by changes in body weight and sweetness perception.

OBJECTIVE: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe psychiatric illness with complex etiology. Recently, we found elevated striatal brain response to sweet taste stimuli in adolescents and young adults with AN. Here, we tested the hypothesis that nutritional rehabilitation normalizes prediction error activation, a measure for dopamine-related reward circuit response, to salient caloric taste stimuli in AN. METHODS: A total of 28 individuals with AN (age = 16 ± 2 years; body mass index [BMI] = 16 ± 1) who previously underwent brain imaging while performing a taste prediction error task using sucrose

Aerobic Physical Exercise Improves Exercise Tolerance and Fasting Glycemia Independent of Body Weight Change in Obese Females.

Obesity is associated with increased risk of several chronic diseases and the loss of disease-free years, which has increased the focus of much research for the discovery of therapy to combat it. Under healthy conditions, women tend to store more fat in subcutaneous deposits. However, this sexual dimorphism tends to be lost in the presence of comorbidities, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Aerobic physical exercise (APE) has been applied in the management of obesity, however, is still necessary to better understand the effects of APE in obese female. Thus, we investigated the effect of

Changing pattern of postoperative body weight and its association with recurrence and survival after curative resection for gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of this study was to assess the pattern of body weight change after gastrectomy for gastric cancer and its association with prognosis. METHODOLOGY: From February 2001 to June 2005, 1554 patients who underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer were included. The pattern of body weight change according to the preoperative body mass index was analyzed and compared with recurrence, survival. RESULTS: Body weight in 1057 (68.0%) patients stabilized before 6 months. As preoperative BMI is low, weight was stabilized on early time after surgery (p<0.001). There were 228 (14.7%)

Change in body image and psychological well-being during behavioral obesity treatment: Associations with weight loss and maintenance.

This study reports on outcomes from a behavioral obesity treatment program, evaluating if treatment-related changes in body image and psychological well-being are predictors of weight change during treatment and after follow-up. Participants were 142 overweight/obese women (BMI=30.2+/-3.7kg/m(2); age=38.3+/-5.8 years) participants in a behavioral treatment program consisting of a 4-month treatment period and a 12-month follow-up. Psychosocial variables improved during treatment and these changes were correlated with 4-month weight reduction. Short-term changes in body size dissatisfaction (p=.

Rates and determinants of repeated participation in a web-based behavior change program for healthy body weight and healthy lifestyle.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, many tailored lifestyle counseling programs have become available through the Internet. Previous research into such programs has shown selective enrollment of relatively healthy people. However, because of the known dose-response relationship between the intensity and frequency of counseling and the behavior change outcomes, selective retention may also be a concern. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify rates and determinants of repeat participation in a Web-based health behavior change program. METHODS: A Web-based health behavior change program aime

Can Self-Reported Seasonality Predict Prospectively Assessed Seasonal Changes of Self-Reported Mood, Food Cravings, Body Weight, Insomnia, and Physical Activity?

Controversy about seasonal affective disorder lies in the poor match between its definition and the available screening methods, as well as little knowledge about the predictive value of specific seasonal symptoms assessed by those methods. We examined whether the overall score as well as sub-domains of the seasonal pattern assessment questionnaire can predict seasonal changes in mood, sleep, appetite, weight, and physical activity in a one-year prospective study. In a sample of 336 Icelandic residents, we administered an online questionnaire once in each season, including the seasonal pattern

Evaluating Weight and Body Mass Index Changes in Women Conceiving with Assisted Reproductive Technologies in Consecutive Pregnancies: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

OBJECTIVES: The amount of weight gained during pregnancy can have immediate and long-term effects on the future health of the pregnant person and their offspring. However, longitudinal prospective datasets that allow for interrogation of pre-pregnancy (PP) weight, gestational weight gain (GWG), and weight at time of delivery (DL) over multiple pregnancies are sparse. We sought to examine how these variables vary from pregnancy to pregnancy in women who have conceived more than once with assisted reproductive technologies (ART). METHODS: For this retrospective cohort study, we used a longitudi

Longitudinal changes in inflammatory markers and body weight in adults with primary immunodeficiency receiving immunoglobulin replacement therapy: A retrospective cohort study.

Immunoglobulin replacement therapy (IgRT) is the cornerstone of treatment for adults with primary immunodeficiency [primary immunodeficiency diseases (PID)]. Its role in infection prevention is well established. However, its effects on systemic inflammation and metabolic parameters remain incompletely understood. This study evaluated one-year changes in inflammatory indices and body weight in adults with PID receiving intravenous (IVIG) or subcutaneous (SCIG) immunoglobulin therapy. This retrospective study included 32 adults with PID. The cohort consisted predominantly of patients with common

Eating Habits and Body Weight Changes Induced by Variation in Smell and Taste in Patients with Previous SARS-CoV-2 Infection.

Olfactory and gustatory dysfunction are recognized as common symptoms in patients with COVID-19, with a prevalence ranging, respectively, between 41-61% and 38.2-49%. This review focused on relating the variations in dietary habits with the reduction/loss of smell and/or taste in patients who contracted the COVID-19 infection. Primarily, we reviewed the main pathological mechanisms involved in COVID 19-induced anosmia/dysosmia and ageusia/dysgeusia. Then, we explored and summarized the behavioural changes in food intake and body weight during the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to sensory impair
