Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to show the soft tissues of the body. The presence of anomalous tendons and muscles can be detected. Chronic lateral ankle pain and instability can be associated with peroneal tendon pathology and MRI may be used to assess both longitudinal attrition of the peroneus brevis tendon, as well as the presence of the peroneus quartus which may be useful in lateral ankle reconstruction. Tenography can occasionally present technical difficulties and can lead to patient dissatisfaction.

The rights of the various individuals involved in decision-making in cadaver organ donation are considered, and there is discussion of the relation of human cadavers to the planetary biomass. I conclude that the rights of the potential recipient should outweigh those of the other parties concerned and that education and legislation should recognise and promote this.

Over a 7-year period the authors studied the vascular and ureteric anomalies of kidneys procured from brain dead, heart-beating cadavers for the purposes of transplantation. Four hundred donors had a bilateral nephroureterectomy performed using an en-bloc technique, followed by fine anatomical dissection in cold saline slush solution. In 10 cadaver shoulders, a posterior subspinous dislocation of the humeral head was provoked. All specimens showed total rupture of the posterior capsule and teres minor muscle, in most cases together with partial lesion in the infraspinatus muscle. In the majority of the specimens, lesions were also seen in the lower part of the subscapular muscle and in the proximal part of the anterior capsule.

Seven patients on dialysis with renal failure received transplants from mismatched cadaver donors and were treated with cyclosporin A (CyA), initially as the sole immunosuppressive agent. CyA was effective in inhibiting rejection but there was clear evidence of both nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. A cyclophosphamide analogue was added to the CyA treatment in six of the patients.
