[Cauda equina syndrome due to giant disc herniation].

In cases of acute or progressive development in a few hours of bilateral sciatica, severe foot and occasional quadriceps weakness and/or retention or incontinence of urine with perineal hypalgesia or anesthesia, acute compression of the cauda equina should be suspected, which is usually due to a lumbar disc herniation. Cauda equina syndrome requires emergency spinal surgery. To identify and confirm this syndrome by MR, Ismanoatory. Early surgical decompression must be achieved. Decompression within 24-48 hours significantly improves the neurological and urological outcome. We present the case …

[Cauda equina syndrome after intradural anesthesia with bupivacaine].

A 70-year-old man developed pain and functional weakness in the lower limbs with dysesthesia and urinary retention after subarachnoid anesthesia with 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine. Neurological and electrophysiological tests and follow-up, as well as diagnostic images (CAT and MR), ruled out spinal cord lesions. The diagnosis was cauda equina syndrome. Cauda equina syndrome is a neurological complication of subarachnoid anesthesia. Associated with use of microcatheters for continuous subarachnoid anesthesia and 5% hyperbaric lidocaine, cauda equina syndrome is rare after a single injection of bu…

Acute cauda equina syndrome. Diagnostic advantage of MRI.

Speed and completeness are vital in the radiographic evaluation of an acute cauda equina syndrome presentation to maximize its resolution with rapid appropriate surgical intervention. Magnetic resonance imaging provides the optimal method for non-invasive evaluation.

[Cauda equina syndrome disclosing adenocarcinoma of the ethmoid].

Cauda equina metastases have been exceptionally described in sinusal neoplasms. MRI with gadolinium injection show up the primitive lesion and its neurologic extension. We report a case of cauda equina syndrome in which, only MRI, had show up intradural metastases and localised the ethmoïd sinus carcinoma.

The redundant nerve root syndrome of the Cauda equina.

The redundant nerve root syndrome is defined as the association of high-grade extradural lumbar spinal stenosis with large, elongated and tortuous nerve roots. Acquired elongation of nerve roots due to the mechanical trapping at the level of lumbar spinal stenosis is assumed to be the possible mechanism. It is believed that the cause is a squeezing force due to the chronic compression. The most common clinical symptoms are low back pain and leg pain. Although lumbar spinal canal stenosis is common, the entity has rarely been discussed in the literature. Here we present the MR imaging and intra

Chondroblastoma of the lumbar spine with cauda equina syndrome.

STUDY DESIGN: Case report. OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical presentations, radiological features and clinical progress of a rare case of … ecurrence of tumour macroscopically and histologically. The patient developed symptoms and signs of cauda equina syndrome gradually despite repeated surgery and irradiation. The patient eventually died of complications of local recurrence and neurological deficit at 3 years and 8 months after the first operation. CONCLUSION: This is the first case report of chondrobla …

Diagnosis of cauda equina syndrome in the emergency department.

Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is a spinal emergency that can be challenging to identify from among the many patients presenting to EDs with low back and/or radicular leg pain. This article presents a practical guide to the assessment and early management of patients with suspected CES as well as an up-to-date review of the most important studies in this area that should inform clinical practice in the ED.
