The last British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) guideline on PMR was published in 2009. The guideline needs to be updated to provide a summa … eople living with PMR and organisations that support them in the public and third sector, including charities and informal patient support groups. This guideline will be developed using the methods and processes outlined in the BSR Guidelines Protocol. Here we provide a brief summary of the scope of the guideline update in development.

Family Action is a charity that helps more than 45,000 vulnerable families and children across England a year by offering emotional, practical and financial support. A pilot of a perinatal support project in Southwark, London was found to reduce mental health problems in vulnerable women and is now being extended. Such schemes complement the work of health visitors and other health professionals. Commissioners need to be aware of the long-term impact of such low-cost interventions in the early years.

The Hong Kong Marrow Match Foundation was established as a charity in 1991 to set up and operate an unrelated bone marrow donor registry for the largely Chinese population of Hong Kong and to assist patients requiring bone marrow transplantation to locate donors in Hong Kong or elsewhere. In the 10 years that followed, the registry has recruited over 42000 predominantly Chinese donors and has provided donors for 150 patients in Hong Kong and overseas requiring transplantation. This report describes the current status of the Foundation.

Innominate artery ligation emerged in the 19th century as an early operation for right subclavian aneurysm. A one-year prospective study of mandibular fractures that included 253 consecutive patients with 422 mandibular fractures was completed at Charity Hospital, New Orleans. Nine major categories were studied. Patients with multiple mandibular fractures seemed to have a fracture pattern.
