BACKGROUND: Providers not skilled in the evaluation of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) may treat pubic lice infestation without considering other organisms. This study compared the rate of chlamydia and gonorrhea infections in adolescents with and without pubic lice.
GOAL: The goals of the study were to compare the rate of chlamydia and gonorrhea infections between adolescents infested or not infested with pubic lice and to evaluate lice infestation as a predictor for concurrent chlamydia or gonorrhea infection.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective chart review of sexually active adolescents

AIMS: To identify screening and diagnostic practices for chlamydia infection in New Zealand.
METHODS: Postal survey of doctors and nurses at all sexual health, family planning, youth and student clinics, and randomly selected general practitioners (GPs).
RESULTS: Most respondents recognised chlamydia infection as a cause of pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility in females, and epididymitis and non-gonococcal urethritis in males. Ectopic pregnancy and conjunctivitis were less commonly recognised by GPs and student and youth centre doctors. Sterile pyuria and arthritis were well recognis

The authors show a scientific literary review on Ch. trachomatis pneumonia. A distinctive syndrome pneumonia has been reported in infants infected by Chlamydia (at 2-3 months of age) in genital-urinary infected mothers. The infection may be preceded by conjunctivitis, in apyrexia followed by attacks of coughing pertussis-like. Blood eosinophilia is present. Although favorable prognosis in infancy, erythromycin is the drug of choice shortening the clinical course erythromycin is also recommended in woman infected prevention.

Chlamydia pneumoniae is the third strain of Chlamydia and transmission is presumed to be by droplet spread from symptomatic patients. The authors show a literature scientific review on subject-matter emphasizing several sporadic and epidemic case of illness in every age, first months excepted. The described cases are few and therefore clinical characteristics are shadowy. Certain clinical features are suggesting of severe pneumonia with fever and pharyngitis without exudate. In the childhood and in the adolescence the clinical evolution is favourable. Tetracyclines or erythromycin is recommend

A study on the infections caused by HPV-16, HSV-2, CMV and Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) on the uterine cervices were carried out among 188 normal cases and 544 patients with chronic cervicitis using ELISA, virus isolation and/or DNA hybridization methods. The detection rates of these four pathogens in erosive cervices were 23.9% (64/268), 26.5% (99/374), 14.0% (22/157) and 13.4% (18/134), respectively, which were significantly higher than that in normal cervices. The total detection rate of four pathogens was 48.5% in erosive cervices, 26.8% in normal cervices at fertile age and 44.1% in normal

Nineteen patients of male NGU and 8 patients of female NGC were treated with doxycycline (DOXY, 200 mg/day for 14 days). C. trachomatis positive rate of male NGU was 12/19 (63%), and that of female NGC was 4/8 (50%). C. trachomatis positive rate of male NGU after treatment of DOXY for 3 days, 7 days and 14 days, was 83%, 17% and 0%, respectively. Serous discharge after treatment of DOXY for 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, was continued in 100%, 33%, 0%. Administration of DOXY (200 mg/day for 14 days) was considered good treatment for male C. trachomatis positive NGU.

Chlamydia psittaci was considered the predominant chlamydial species in poultry until Chlamydia gallinacea was discovered in 2009. C. psittaci is a zoonotic obligate intracellular bacterium reported in more than 465 bird species including poultry. In poultry, infections can result in asymptomatic disease, but also in more severe systemic illness. The zoonotic potential of C. gallinacea has yet to be proven. Infections in poultry appear to be asymptomatic and in recent prevalence studies C. gallinacea was the main chlamydial species found in chickens. The high prevalence of C. gallinacea result

INTRODUCTION: Chlamydia trachomatis is the etiological agent for the most prevalent bacterial sexually transmitted infection in both developed and developing countries. The aim of present study was to characterize the antibody response between two groups of individuals, having either a single C. trachomatis infection and or repeated infections.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Current study consisted of two groups, one with an initial Chlamydia infection and a second with repeated infections. A titre based estimation of specific serum (IgG and IgA) levels using ELISA were performed, which further valida

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is a major cause of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) worldwide, with significant implications for reproductive health. The bacterium's genome contains highly polymorphic regions, influencing both the type and severity of infections. These genetic variations, particularly those occurring in the major outer membrane protein (MOMP) gene, are critical for classifying the bacterium into distinct serovars and enable CT to adapt to diverse host environments, contributing to its immune evasion, persistence, and pathogenicity. Persistent or untreated urogenital infectio

Sexually transmitted Chlamydia trachomatis infections remain common globally and most frequently are asymptomatic. The 2025 European C. trachomatis guideline provides up-to-date guidance regarding indications for testing and treatment of C. trachomatis infections. It includes advice on urogenital and extragenital C. trachomatis testing including the use of self-collected specimens; recommendation to use only validated NAATs for diagnosis; and recommendation to treat all C. trachomatis infections with doxycycline as first line in preference to single-dose azithromycin regimens. Chlamydia pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae) is a recognized cause of respiratory infections in children and adolescents, while it is often considered a negligible pathogen in adults outside of outbreaks. We performed a retrospective analysis from a nationwide surveillance network in Germany that collected data from 2018 to 2024. A multivariate analysis (binomial model) was performed to assess the influence of year, hospitalization status, gender and age on C. pneumoniae detection rate. Our analysis showed an increasing C. pneumoniae detection rate in 2024 compared to 2019, especially in children belo

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia pneumoniae is an obligate intracellular pathogen and is a common cause of human respiratory diseases, including pneumonia. It has been already known to have a causal relationship with some chronic diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. In this review, we aim to find out the association between C. pneumoniae infection and lung cancer.
METHODS: This is a systematic review on C. pneumoniae infection and the development of lung cancer, based on published articles consolidated from PubMed and Google Scholar

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infections remain highly prevalent. CT reinfection occurs frequently within months after treatment, likely contributing to sustaining the high CT infection prevalence. Sparse studies have suggested CT reinfection is associated with a lower organism load, but it is unclear whether CT load at the time of treatment influences CT reinfection risk. In this study, women presenting for treatment of a positive CT screening test were enrolled, treated and returned for 3- and 6-month follow-up visits. CT organism loads were quantified at each visit. We evaluated for an associa

The aim of the study was to evaluate if an intervention including theater in school sex education affects students' knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding condom use in Sweden. The study was a cluster randomized controlled trial. The intervention group got a play, value exercises, chlamydia games, condom school, and interactive replay with professional actors and staff from a youth guidance center. The control group got standard sex education from school staff. Students in both groups answered web surveys on knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding condom use. Posteducation, knowledg

Sexually transmitted infections of the urogenital tract are most commonly caused by the intracellular bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis worldwide, resulting the clinical picture of acute urethritis in men as well as urethritis and endocervicitis in women. As women often present with few symptoms only or a completely symptom-free disease course, one of the most important long-term complications is chronic pelvic inflammatory disease often followed by the development of infertility caused by chronic scar formation. Well-organized screening programs are considered to have a leading role in the preve

Chlamydia trachomatis is the leading cause of bacterial sexually transmitted disease worldwide resulting in 4-5 million new cases of Chlamydia annually and an estimated 100 million cases per annum. Infections of the lower female genital tract (FGT) frequently are asymptomatic; thus, they often remain undiagnosed or untreated. If infections are either not resolved or left untreated, chlamydia can ascend to the upper FGT and infect the fallopian tubes (FTs) causing salpingitis that may lead to functional damage of the FTs and tubal factor infertility (TFI). Clinical observations and experimental

Chlamydia trachomatis infections, which most frequently are asymptomatic, are major public health concerns globally. The 2015 European C. trachomatis guideline provides: up-to-date guidance regarding broader indications for testing and treatment of C. trachomatis infections; a clearer recommendation of using exclusively-validated nucleic acid amplification tests for diagnosis; advice on (repeated) C. trachomatis testing; the recommendation of increased testing to reduce the incidence of pelvic inflammatory disease and prevent exposure to infection; and recommendations to identify, verify and r
