Eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa can have a significant impact on the structure of the teeth. Gastric acid not only causes enamel and dentin to dissolve but also causes a progressive deterioration of dental health, which leads to functional esthetic and biological consequences. According to the classic concepts of restorative dentistry, the rehabilitation of such clinical cases will involve numerous full crowns and root canal treatments, a process which is expensive financially, biologically, and in terms of time. However, the development of resin composite and adhesive systems has mad

Surgical treatment was performed on 100 iatrogen perforations, of which 94 showed radiolucency of bone adjacent to the perforation and 83 presence of an exposed post. The perforations were in all cases sealed with a resin composite (Retroplast) bonded to adjacent root dentin with a dentin bonding agent (Gluma). Cases were examined after approximately 1 yr (first recall) and, if necessary after 1 1/2 to 11 yr (mean: 4.1 yr) (latest recall). It was observed that the presence or absence of bone on the root between the perforation and cervix at the time of operation had no significant effect on th

The short- and long-term pulpal reactions to composite resin restorations using differenct cavity lining materials have been assessed in monkey teeth with experimentally induced pulpitis. The inflammation was induced by filling cavities with soft human carious dentin and amalgam for 1 week. Healing of the inflammation and formation of reparative dentin was generally found independent of the lining materials used. The long-term response to cavities restored with carious dentin and amalgam was also healing of the primarily induced pulpal inflammation in most instances.

OBJECTIVES: Due to innumerable confounding factors and a high number of types and brands of dental restorative materials, the clinical performance of restorative materials are sought predicted by various in vitro tests. However, only few such tests have been found to correlate well with clinical findings. Thus, the present study determined the in vitro dentin bond strength and marginal adaptation of Class II restorations and correlated the results to their clinical outcomes.
METHODS: Dentin bond strength (µTBS and µSBS) and marginal gap formation of Class II restorations (replica technique an

Dental resin composites (DRCs) are popular materials for repairing caries or dental defect, requiring excellent properties to cope with the complex oral environment. Filler/resin interface interaction has a significant impact on the physicochemical/biological properties and service life of DRCs. Various chemical and physical modification methods on filler/resin interface have been introduced and studied, and the physical micromechanical interlocking caused by the modification of fillers morphology and structure is a promising method. This paper firstly introduces the composition and developmen
