BACKGROUND: Cryosurgery is an adjuvant surgical technique for the treatment of benign aggressive, low-grade malignant and metastatic tumors of long bones. It has been used rarely to treat sacral tumors, mainly because of potential damage to nerves, blood vessels, and intrapelvic organs. The authors described their experience with this procedure and provided medium and long-term follow-up results.

Keloid scarring presents a difficult therapeutic problem. It is a recognized sequel to acne vulgaris, and may be extensive and disfiguring. The data from this double-blind study, in which intralesional triamcinolone or cryosurgery were used as treatment for keloids, demonstrate that by treating early, and in particular vascular, keloids with the latter, 85% will show a moderate to good response in terms of flattening. Treatment with intralesional triamcinolone was also beneficial, but the response to cryosurgery was significantly better in early, vascular lesions.

Cryosurgery ++ (cryoresection and cryodestruction) was carried out in 21 of a group of 43 patients (48.8%) during resection and +re-resection of the liver in repeated operations. One patient died. It was found that cryodestruction combined with radical and palliative resections of the liver in reoperations improved the late-term results of the operation significantly. With the use of cryotechniques, blood loss is reduced and intraoperative dissemination of the tumour cells and alveococcus and recurrences in the postoperative period are prevented.

We studied 22 patients with a histopathological diagnosis of severe dysplasia and 89 patients with a diagnosis of carcinoma in situ of the uterine cervix. Twenty patients (18 per cent) had negative cervical smears for four to six years after diagnosis by biopsy of the cervix. BACKGROUND: Pregnant women with sporotrichosis should not receive systemic antifungal therapy except in severe cases when amphotericin B is recommended. Thermotherapy is the most reported treatment described in this group of patients. It entails weeks of daily self-application of heat to the lesions, requires that the patient faithfully apply it, and it could cause skin burns. PURPOSE: To report live, active trophozoites in an eye with Acanthamoeba keratitis that resembled Acanthamoeba polyphagia in the anterior chamber fluid obtained by transcorneal tap.

Cryosurgery was used for treatment of recurrent proliferative keratoconjunctivitis in 5 dogs that had been treated with combined medical and surgical procedures without success. Four dogs recovered completely after one application of cryosurgery. The fifth dog did not respond to cryosurgery until after oral administration of corticosteroids was stopped, indicating a possible immune-mediated mechanism of action of cryosurgery on proliferative keratoconjunctivitis.
