A rare case of idiopathic root resorption affecting the entire dentition was described. Root resorptions of all of the maxillary and mandibular teeth were coincidentally diagnosed on patient's radiographic examination. The patient's medical and dental findings were non-contributory, other than the increased mobility of upper incisors. No significant familial findings could be identified. Detailed radiographic examination revealed resorption affecting the apical part of the roots, resulting in vertical shortening of the teeth. The character of the resorption was as if a tapering occurred throug

The purpose of this case report is to describe an unusual presentation of multiple lesions of intracoronal resorption in the permanent teeth in a healthy boy. Longitudinal radiographs demonstrated that all 3 lesions were acquired after the crowns were completely formed. Unlike previous reports in which intracoronal radiolucencies have been found in unerupted teeth or in newly erupting teeth, one lesion in this case developed in a fully erupted tooth, which was differentiated from internal resorption and invasive cervical resorption of the root. All were considered idiopathic external resorptio

Dentin dysplasia type I is a rare hereditary disturbance of dentin formation characterized clinically by nearly normal appearing crowns and severe hypermobility of teeth. Radiographic analysis shows obliteration of all pulp chambers, short, blunted, and malformed roots, and periapical radiolucencies of noncarious teeth. This paper presents 2 cases demonstrating both classic and atypical features of type I dentin dysplasia in the mixed and permanent dentitions. The clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic\findings of this condition and treatment are described.

Dentoskeletal morphology was assessed in 191 untreated and unselected children with a hyperdivergent (high-angle) mandibular plane (ML/NSL > or =40 degrees) by analyzing lateral roentgenographic cephalograms. The subjects were divided into mixed dentition and permanent dentition groups, and further divided into subgroups based on the amount of overbite (OB) as a measure of dentoalveolar compensation of jaw base hyperdivergency: OB < 0 mm (openbite) = insufficient/no compensation; OB 0 to 4 mm (normal overbite) = acceptable compensation; OB > 4 mm (deepbite) = overcompensation. Openbite was obs

In dental clinic for children, criteria for growth and developmental changes related to increases in the width and length of the dental arch at the primary, mixed, and permanent dentition stages are essential. This study was carried out to measure the width and the length of normal dental arch and to make detailed observations of growth and developmental processes in the dental arch at each dentition stage. Materials were serial study casts of the maxilla and the mandible taken every 2 month from 127 children (74 boys and 54 girls). The casts were made from 6 months after birth until the age o

INTRODUCTION: Dental crowding is the most prevalent malocclusion in the mixed and permanent detitions and can have a major impact on dentofacial esthetics. However, adjustments to the development and growth of the dentition can potentiate self-correction of dental crowding during childhood.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the physiological behavior of mandibular incisor crowding in the transition from mixed to permanent dentition.
METHODOLOGY: Five electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS and LIVIVO) and part of the gray literature (Proquest and Google Scholar) were investigated,

OBJECTIVES: To compare characteristics of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and related structures according to Angle class I, II1, II2, and III.
METHODS: 123 Chinese patients (13-36 years old, 60 males, and 63 females) were classified in four groups according to Angle's classification: skeletal class I (31 patients), skeletal class II division 1 (30 patients), skeletal class II division 2 (30 patients), and skeletal class III (32 patients). Left and right TMJs of each subject were evaluated independently with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The position of condyle in the joint fossa was an

A girl with an Angle Class III malocclusion, anterior and posterior crossbites, a concave profile, and cleft lip and palate sought orthodontic treatment. She was treated with a multidisciplinary therapeutic protocol including orthodontic and surgical procedures. The proposed objectives of occlusion, normal function, and balanced profile were achieved, and these results remained stable 4 years after the treatment.

BACKGROUND: Dental caries is a multifactorial chronic bacterial infectious disease. Variations in the predisposition of the general population to dental cavities suggest that genetic and immunological factors play significant roles in its pathogenesis. This study aims to explore the impact of the Beta-Defensin 1 (DEFB1) rs11362 polymorphism on caries susceptibility in permanent dentition among the Bai Kuyao and Zhuang ethnic groups in China.
METHODS: A sample of 754 adolescents aged 12-15 was randomly selected from primary and junior high schools in Nandan County, Guangxi, China. All adolesce

INTRODUCTION: Pulpal reactions after acute dental injury have been puzzling for many clinicians. The management of dental trauma and an understanding of clinical and treatment factors in outcomes arose from multivariate statistical analyses of archive material from Copenhagen.
METHODS: The aim of this article was to review the works of this period with respect to pulpal reaction after acute mechanical trauma. These traumas include luxation, avulsion, root fracture, and crown fracture. A PubMed search identified other literature where multivariate analysis was used, and these results were comp

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disorder which mainly affects children. Oral changes, such as gingival ulceration, halitosis, osseous lesions associated with tooth mobility, and early loss of primary teeth, comprise the disease's first manifestations for most patients. In the long term, dental changes may occur as a result of dental and systemic treatment. Therefore, this study's purpose is to report Langerhans cell histiocytosis' effects on the permanent dentition 8 years after diagnosis, which had been established by performing a biopsy of gingival tissue on a 3-year-old patien

This purpose of this research was to examine the stability of normal occlusion during the transition from primary to permanent dentition. The sample consisted of 128 children (83 boys and 45 girls) 4.5 to 5.5 years old with normal occlusion in the primary dentition. The subjects were reexamined at 12.5 to 13.5 years. None had received orthodontic treatment. Although all the subjects had normal occlusion in the primary dentition, 72.7% (73.5% boys and 71.1% girls) had developed anomalies following eruption of the permanent teeth. These anomalies included crowding, Class II Division 1 or Class I

PURPOSE: Evaluate if there is a significant association between the position and inclination of the unerupted maxillary canine measured on a panoramic radiograph, and their relationship to gender, age of the patient and stage of dentition.
METHODS: 138 panoramic radiographs were examined for this retrospective cross-sectional investigation. Only patients living in Madrid, Spain with mixed dentition were included. These measurements were performed on radiographs, considering the inclination and position of the maxillary canines with regards to the midline, and height with respect to the occlus

It is claimed that dental fluorosis in both deciduous and permanent teeth is increasing in fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities. What is unclear is whether fluoride-induced enamel opacities in the deciduous dentition are associated with the subsequent appearance of enamel defects in the permanent dentition. The aim of this study was to establish whether a relationship existed between the presence of diffuse enamel defects on the deciduous molars and permanent incisors of schoolchildren who were lifetime residents in an optimally fluoridated community in Cheshire, England. The dentitions

Background and Objectives: Addressing deep carious lesions poses significant challenges in daily dental practice due to the inherent complexity of their treatment. Traditionally, complete removal of carious tissues has been the norm, potentially leading to pulp tissue exposure and subsequent pulpitis. In contemporary dentistry, there is a growing preference for minimally invasive techniques, such as selective removal, offering a more conservative approach with enhanced predictability and success rates. Materials and Methods: Our study commenced with a comprehensive systematic review. After tha
