CASE: A 45-year-old man presented with a Gustillo Anderson type III A open segmental right femur shaft fracture with intercondylar extension and with an 18-cm extruded segment of bone. BACKGROUND: Internal hemipelvectomy is a limb-salvage procedure used to treat aggressive pelvic bone tumors. Depending on the extent of pelvic resection, the procedure can substantially alter pelvic stability, muscle attachment sites, and lower-extremity loading during gait. These structural changes are associated with altered movement patterns during walking, which may influence the ability to maintain functional ambulation. Although gait deviations following hemipelvectomy have been reported, the role of trunk motion within these altered gait patterns remains poorly understood.

BACKGROUND: Hip disarticulation is a psychologically and physically demanding procedure. However, it remains a therapeutical option whenever limb salvage proves impossible due to sarcoma, severe implant-associated infections or trauma. The stump lengthening procedure (SLP) is a surgical technique that allows partial salvage of the thigh through endoprosthetic proximal femur replacement after hip disarticulation, depending on the amount of viable soft tissue coverage. This leads to a more appealing visual appearance, facilitates prosthetic fitting and significantly improves limb function.

UNLABELLED: Current research on elderly patients with hip fractures often neglects specific subtypes, either grouping all fracture types or overlooking them entirely. By categorizing elderly patients based on fracture subtypes, we observed diverse baseline characteristics but found no discrepancies in measured outcomes. Malunion of a first metatarsal osteotomy or fracture can result in dorsal angulation of the distal fragment and shortening of the metatarsal, among other deformities. PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIT) on physical fitness and cardiometabolic health in youth with physical disabilities.
