Selenium (Se) deficiency in rats produced significant increases in the activity of hepatic glutathione S-transferase (GST) with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene as substrate and in various GST isoenzymes when determined by radioimmunoassay. These changes is GST activity and concentration were associated with Se deficiency that was severe enough to provoke decreases of over 98% in hepatic Se-containing glutathione peroxidase activity (Se-GSHpx). 495 patients were standard photopatch tested with Musk Ambrette 5% in petrolatum and in dimethyl phthalate. 4 cases gave positive photopatches; 3 were men and 1 a woman. 2 cases, both men, had current or past relevant reactions to Musk Ambrette presented with typical perfume dermatitis. The other 2 cases had positive reactions to Musk Ambrette of uncertain relevance. Photoallergic reaction to Musk Ambrette is a rare event. Only a few relevant reactions will be missed by excluding it from standard phototesting.

Hooded Lister rats were sensitized to DNP-ovalbumin. These rats showed a significant alteration in respiratory pattern when challenged with DNP-ovalbumin aerosol. The respiratory response was not produced by challenging sensitized rats with intragastric DNP-ovalbumin. The magnitude of the respiratory response did not correlate with the specific IgE concentration in the serum. A similar pattern of respiratory response was inducible in unsensitized rats by intravenous administration of IgE-rich sera.

The luminescent responses of rat, porcine, and human erythrocytes to heating were linear in respect to logs of counts per minute versus temperature.
