A 27-year-old patient acquired an arteriovenous fistula after punch graft hair transplantation. This lesion was treated by (percutaneous) puncture and injection of a liquid acrylic (N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate). The fistula was completely obliterated by the endovascular therapy without the need for additional vascular or cosmetic surgery. Endovascular therapy may be helpful as an adjunctive or primary treatment modality for iatrogenic or post-trauma fistulas.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Massive hemoptysis is a serious respiratory emergency. In most cases, the bleeding source is the bronchial circulation, and bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is considered the primary approach for treating massive hemoptysis. However, there is no standardized protocol regarding embolic agents. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of BAE performed with n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) in the treatment of massive hemoptysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-center, retrospective study included patients who underwent BAE with NBCA for massive h

OBJECTIVE: To treat the fetus presenting with in utero compromise due to a large vein of Galen malformation (VOGM) using glue embolization.
METHODS: The fetus that was referred for termination of pregnancy at 30 weeks of gestation due to severe cardiomegaly, mild pericardial effusion and large VOGM was evaluated using ultrasound. There was reversed end diastolic flow in the umbilical artery Doppler indicating imminent fetal demise in the premature fetus weighing <1200 g. Considering the request of parents, a treatment similar to recently reported cases of VOGM embolization in utero was attemp

OBJECTIVE: In the multimodality treatment of complex brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), the role of endovascular embolization is not fully elucidated. To assess the risk of embolization, we retrospectively evaluated the outcomes of endovascular treatment for AVM, focusing on the embolization-related complications.
METHODS: The present study included patients with brain AVM who underwent embolization at our hospital between April 2011 and May 2021. Risk factors for peri- and postoperative complications were analyzed.
RESULTS: During the study period, 36 AVMs were treated during 58 embo

An 86-year-old man was transferred to the Tokyo Medical University Hospital because of a temporary loss of consciousness and melena. We performed upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which revealed Mallory-Weiss syndrome caused by a strong vomiting reflex. After an examination, he complained of abdominal pain, and his blood pressure decreased. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed fresh intra-abdominal hemorrhage. We performed transcatheter arterial embolization by using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate to control the bleeding from the right gastroepiploic artery. Intra-abdominal hemorrha

OBJECTIVE: To compare the safety and efficacy of ultrasound guided percutaneous glue (N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate) embolization with transarterial embolization in the management of iatrogenically injured arteries while performing paracentesis or thoracocentesis in patients with chronic liver disease.
METHODS: Hospital database was searched for cirrhotic patients having abdominal/thoracic wall haemorrhage following paracentesis/thoracocentesis procedure from January 2011 to June 2016. Doppler ultrasound and/or CT angiography were used to localize the site of haemorrhage and patients were treated b

An orbital venous varix is rare and can present with diplopia, proptosis, or hemorrhage. Treatment can be challenging, especially if the varix is in a posterior location within the orbit, since surgical exposure becomes difficult. A few case reports have been published describing transcatheter embolization of an orbital varix with coils, direct percutaneous injection of n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue, and the percutaneous injection of bleomycin. We present a case of a symptomatic orbital venous varix of the left inferior ophthalmic vein successfully treated with transvenous endovascular sclerother

A 30-year-old man who had life-threatening traumatic bleeding from the sigmoid colon was successfully treated with emergent selective embolization of the sigmoid artery with N-butyl cyanoacrylate without ischemia. However, the patient developed colonic occlusion that became clinically apparent 6 months after the embolization and required surgical treatment. Interventional radiologists should be aware of the possibility of late-onset intestinal stricture. Because complications of mesenteric artery embolization may be delayed for months, an extended follow-up period is prudent to monitor the emb

PURPOSE: To elucidate the mechanism of persistence or recurrence of varicoceles after surgical repair by examining the venographic anatomy, and to review the efficacy of treatment of these patients with n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) embolization.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2001 to 2007, 17 patients with persistent or recurrent varicoceles were studied by retrograde venography 4 months to 18 years after open surgical repair. All patients were then treated with NBCA glue embolization of the entire gonadal vein and the venographically identified duplications and collateral vessels, with three pa

We report a patient who developed a large arteriovenous fistula in right lower extremity after gunshot injury. Because other endovascular methods failed, the patient was successfully treated with concomitant use of detachable latex balloon and N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA). The combination of detachable balloon and NBCA can be effectively used for endovascular treatment of peripheral arteriovenous fistulas in selected cases when effective embolization could not be achieved with other embolizing agents or their various combinations.

Pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA) is a common manifestation and leading cause of mortality related to Behcet disease. Endovascular treatment is usually required when medical therapy alone fails to control progression. Successful superselective embolization of a giant PAA with the "bubble technique" was performed with use of a high concentration (75%) of n-butyl-cyanoacrylate in a patient with Behcet disease who had recurrent hemoptysis.

This trial represents the Egyptian experience in cyanoacrylate injection for hemostasis of bleeding gastric varices. One hundred patients with portal hypertension due to schistosomal hepatic fibrosis and/or posthepatitic liver cirrhosis were included. All patients presented with bleeding from gastric varices either fundal (80 patients) or inferior extension of esophageal varices (20 patients) were enrolled. Injection therapy was administered as the first active measure. No tamponade or drugs were used. Cyanoacrylate was mixed with lipid and injected through a hand-made probe. A mean of 3 (rang
