[Atypital localisation of pyoderma gangraenosum in patient with ulcerative colitis].

Multiple skin defects, which developed in atypical localisation (extensive affection of facial and hairy parts of the head) in patient with chronically active form of ulcerative colitis were complicated with bacterial contamination of methicilin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Topical anti-inflammatory agents for seborrheic dermatitis of the face or scalp: summary of a Cochrane Review.

CLINICAL QUESTION: Are there differences in effectiveness between topical anti-inflammatory treatments (steroids, calcineurin inhibitors, or lithium salts) and placebo or azoles in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the face and scalp in adults? BOTTOM LINE: The topical anti-inflammatory treatments were more effective in achieving total clearance of symptoms than placebo by 1.4-fold to 8.5-fold, but there are no considerable differences in the anti-inflammatory topical treatments or in comparison with azoles for short-term treatment. There is no evidence of treatment effects in long-te

Localized and linear lichen planopilaris over the face and scalp with associated alopecia - clinical and dermoscopy pattern.

A case of localized lichen planopilaris over the face, extending to the scalp is presented. This case highlights the different variations, which can occur in the presentation of localized lichen planus. The case was unique because of the extension of the lesions into the scalp. We also wanted to demonstrate the peculiar dermoscopic patterns of active lichen planopilaris when occurring over the face.

Lichen planus actinicus.

Lichen planus actinicus is a photodistributed variant of lichen planus that most often occurs in individuals with dark complexions. Sunlight seems to be a triggering factor in most cases. Several clinical morphologic patterns have been described, and multiple therapies with variable results have been used. The lesions in some patients may remit spontaneously with sun avoidance.

Childhood-onset familial porphyria cutanea tarda: effects of therapeutic phlebotomy.

Cutaneous fragility at age 2 years with blistering, scarring, milia, and hypertrichosis at age 4 years were noted in an otherwise healthy girl who had no family history of porphyria. Results of porphyrin analyses of urine, serum, and red blood cells revealed a pattern consistent with porphyria cutanea tarda. Red blood cell uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase activity was diminished to approximately 50% of normal in the child and in her mother and maternal grandmother, who were without symptoms; activity was normal in her sister, father, and maternal grandfather. Therapeutic phlebotomies were follow

Underdiagnosed and undertreated psoriasis: Nuances of treating psoriasis affecting the scalp, face, intertriginous areas, genitals, hands, feet, and nails.

Psoriasis of the scalp, face, intertriginous areas, genitals, hands, feet, and nails is often underdiagnosed, and disease management can be challenging. Despite the small surface area commonly affected by psoriasis in these locations, patients have disproportionate levels of physical impairment and emotional distress. Limitations in current disease severity indices do not fully capture the impact of disease on a patient's quality of life, and, combined with limitations in current therapies, many patients do not receive proper or adequate care. In this review, we discuss the clinical manifestat

Proposal of Phenotypic Patterns in Facial Atopic Dermatitis: A Single-Center Retrospective Analysis of 100 Cases.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by eczematous lesions and pruritus. Facial and neck involvement in AD can be challenging to differentiate from other facial dermatoses, such as allergic contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, and drug-induced facial dermatitis, complicating treatment strategies. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the distribution of facial involvement patterns in patients with AD and to explore the differential diagnosis, focusing on head and neck lesions. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted…

The progression of nonsegmental vitiligo: clinical analysis of 318 patients.

BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is an acquired disorder with destruction of melanocytes and is characterized by cutaneous depigmentation with a progressive clinical course. We attempted to evaluate whether there was a relationship between the initial site and ultimate progression of nonsegmental vitiligo. METHODS: Three hundred and eighteen nonsegmental vitiligo patients were examined. Questionnaires regarding age, sex, duration of disease, family history, distribution of initial lesions, progression, and clinical type were recorded from personal interviews and case notes. RESULTS: Two hundred and eigh

Head-and-neck dermatitis: Diagnostic difficulties and management pearls.

Head-and-neck dermatitis is a variant of atopic dermatitis (AD) often seen in children and is challenging to diagnose, as it frequently overlaps with other eczematous dermatoses. Successful head-and-neck dermatitis (HND) treatment requires identification of common triggers and clinical mimickers, such as airborne dermatitis, periorificial dermatitis, and steroid-induced rosacea. Head-and-neck involvement negatively impacts quality of life and is often harder to treat than other body parts, as long-term topical corticosteroid use carries higher risks for skin atrophy on the face. Natural history of a fibrous cephalic plaque and sustained eight decade follow-up in an 80 year old with tuberous sclerosis complex type 2.

INTRODUCTION: Fibrous cephalic plaques (FCP) are a characteristic manifestation of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and occur in one third of cases. Their natural history and long term course is unknown, as is the outcome of long term follow-up of TSC cases in old age. PHENOTYPE AND METHODS: We describe an 80 year old with TSC due to a c.2784dupC TSC2 mutation, who was diagnosed in infancy with an FCP and was regularly followed up at the TSC clinic over 8 decades with regular epilepsy treatment and renal monitoring. RESULTS: Regular clinical photography and clinical records document the plaq
