BACKGROUND: Ventriculoatrial (VA) shunt placement is an alternative treatment for hydrocephalus when ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement is not feasible. While shunt obstruction and infection are well-known complications, elevated systemic venous pressure is likely an underrecognized cause of dysfunction.
