AIMS AND BACKGROUND: Analysis of patients with late relapse of testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs) with reports on clinicopathological features and outcomes.

UNLABELLED: Precocious puberty is not a typical manifestation of patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS). However, there is an increased incidence of mediastinal germ cell tumors (M-GCT) in KS, whereas the discussion of a generally higher tumor risk in this condition is still controversial. A rare subgroup of KS patients consists of prepubertal children with precocious puberty due to human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)-producing M-GCTs. We present clinical data on a boy with KS and sexual precocity, and summarize the published data on 12 boys with KS out of 54 cases of KS and M-GCT.

OBJECTIVE: To review the treatment of testicular germ-cell cancer in our series.
METHODS: 73 cases with the diagnosis of germ-cell testicular tumours were reviewed. All cases underwent orchiectomy and extension study with abdominal CT-scan and either chest X-ray or Thoracic CT-scan. We reviewed the treatment options employed in our series, analysing different currently recognised risk factors.

Germ cell, mesenchymal, and thymic tumors of the mediastinum are an uncommon and heterogeneous group of neoplasms. Together they account for less than 25% of mediastinal tumors in childhood. The majority of these tumors are found in the anterior and superior mediastinum, but germ cell tumors and mesenchymal tumors may be located in all compartments. They share a broad range of histological subtypes and clinical behavior, tendency to be large in size, and a requirement for complete surgical excision as the major requirement for successful therapy.

INTRODUCTION: The extragonadal germ-cell tumors (EGGCT) represent 5% of all germ-cell tumors at presentation. Histologically, they are identical to testis germ cell tumors. They may arise in such sites as the mediastinum, retroperitoneal area, sacrococcygeal area, or pineal area without a primary in the testis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The medical records of 10 patients with mediastinal EGGCT were reviewed between 1973 and 1996. All patients were males and his mean age was 26.7 years old (21-24). Follow-up was 19 months (3-72).
