We report the first case of adult granular cell tumor form localized in the glottis in a 8 year-old girl. The first symptom was a chronic dysphonia. Examination with rigid optic demonstrated an irregular yellow hypertrophic lesion in the posterior third of the left vocal fold. The lesion was removed by CO2 laser micro-spot under general anesthesia. There has been no recurrence after 15 months of follow-up and the postoperative voice quality is satisfactory regarded both objectively as subjectively. Granular cell tumors are rare. The DNA contents in 56 laryngeal glottic biopsy specimens with a spectrum of squamous intraepithelial neoplastic (SIN) changes were evaluated by image analysis. A combination of DNA histogram features were used to define abnormal DNA-containing cell populations that were interpreted as representing intraepithelial neoplastic transformation. Zyderm Collagen Implant has been used successfully for several years as a soft tissue implant to fill tissue irregularities and other skin defects. In 1984 Ford reported the first experiences of the use of injectable collagen in glottic insufficiency. We are carrying out clinical studies on the efficacy and safety of Zyderm II implants in the treatment of glottic insufficiency. Therapeutic success depends on careful adherence to correct indications and contra-indications, careful explanation to the patient, voice therapy, correct injection technique and adequate patient supervision.

All patients with cancer of the glottis treated by radiotherapy with curative intent at the University of Virginia from 1956 through 1971 have been reviewed. Follow-up is complete through December, 1973. Results are presented by both stage and treatment policy and indicate that with our present methods of management a high degree of local control is achieved. The effect of the pressure recovery at glottal exit is introduced to modify the one-mass model. Using the modified one-mass model, the phonation critical condition, including phonation threshold pressure and phonation threshold flow, is analyzed by using the small-amplitude oscillation theory. It is found that the phonation threshold pressure is not sensitive to the change of the prephonatory glottal width at a wide glottal gap. Thoracocardiography approach pretends to non-invasively monitor stroke volume by inductive plethysmographic recording of ventricular volume curves by a transducer placed on the chest. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of thoracocardiography to estimate stroke volumes while apnea with open glottis. We hypothesized that, when glottis is open, stroke volumes would be better estimated if airways flow curves were taken into account.

The transition between 'chest' and 'head' register is essential for male opera singers in order to reach the higher pitches. The 'passaggio', which is a scale passage where this transition takes place, but also a maneuver of register equalization, is typically difficult to learn. Our aim was to obtain an objective evaluation of the airway before and after reversible glottis-dilating operations using the lung function test. Bilateral abductor vocal cord paralysis remains mostly a complication of thyroid surgery.
