Gold(I) Multi-Resonance Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Emitters for Highly Efficient Ultrapure-Green Organic Light-Emitting Diodes.

Acceleration of singlet-triplet intersystem crossings (ISC) is instrumental in bolstering triplet exciton harvesting of multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescent (MR-TADF) emitters. This work describes a simple gold(I) coordination strategy to enhance the spin-orbit coupling of green and blue BN(O)-based MR-TADF emitters, which results in a notable increase in rate constants of the spectroscopically observed ISC process to 3×109  s-1 with nearly unitary ISC quantum yields. Accordingly, the resultant thermally-stable AuI emitters attained large values of delayed fluorescence radia

Green Light Exposure Elicits Anti-inflammation, Endogenous Opioid Release and Dampens Synaptic Potentiation to Relieve Post-surgical Pain.

Light therapy improves multiple conditions such as seasonal affective disorders, circadian rhythm dysregulations, and neurodegenerative diseases. However, little is known about its potential benefits in pain management. While current pharmacologic methods are effective in many cases, the associated side effects can limit their use. Non-pharmacological methods would minimize drug dependence, facilitating a reduction of the opioid burden. Green light therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing chronic pain in humans and rodents. However, its underlying mechanisms remain incompletely defin…

Topical application of green and white tea extracts provides protection from solar-simulated ultraviolet light in human skin.

BACKGROUND: Tea polyphenols have been found to exert beneficial effects on the skin via their antioxidant properties. AIMS: We sought to determine whether topical application of green tea or white tea extracts would prevent simulated solar radiation-induced oxidative damages to DNA and Langerhans cells that may lead to immune suppression and carcinogenesis. METHODS: Skin samples were analysed from volunteers or skin explants treated with white tea or green tea after UV irradiation. In another group of patients, the in vivo immune protective effects of green and white tea were evaluated using

Management of growth and astaxanthin accumulation in the green microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis: effect of photosynthesis-related nutrients and light stress.

Haematococcus pluvialis is mainly known by its high astaxanthin content. This carotenoid, with strong antioxidant properties, is naturally accumulated in microalgal cells under stressful conditions (light intensity variation, nutrient deprivation, osmotic stress, etc.). Nevertheless, the cost-effectiveness of such methods at a large scale is controversial, in addition to their negative impact on cell growth. We examined the effectiveness of major nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, copper, and iron) modification in the culture medium as well as light intensity. This study is the first to report c

Melatonin Receptor Mel1b- and Mel1c-mediated Green Light Induced the Secretion of Growth Hormone in Anterior Pituitary of Chicks.

Previous studies have found that melatonin was related to the growth and development in avian. Therefore, the newly hatched broilers were exposed to colors of light to establish a model of pinealectomy and explored the mechanism of pineal melatonin promoting growth hormone (GH) secretion. The results showed that green light (GL) promoted the levels of GH, pituitary-specific transcription factor-1 (Pit-1) genes and proteins in pituitary. Moreover, the mRNA and protein levels of melatonin receptor subtypes Mel1b and Mel1c in the pituitary in GL were higher than other monochromatic light groups. …

Light absorbing properties of indocyanine green (ICG) in solution and after adsorption to the retinal surface: an ex-vivo approach.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate potential differences in light absorbing properties and stability of indocyanine green (ICG) adsorbed to the retinal surface and of ICG dissolved in water and balanced salt solution. METHODS: The retina of four human donor eyes was prepared by removing the vitreous from the retinal surface. The inner surface of the specimen was covered with two to three drops of a 0.05% or 0.15% ICG solution respectively. After 1 min, the dye was removed by careful irrigation using BSS plus. The retinal specimens were then investigated by diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV/VIS/NIR Spe

Performance testing of fabricated green-synthesised binary and ternary nanohybrids for light-induced reduction of CO2 to gaseous fuel.

Greenhouse gas emissions worldwide continue to rise, and rising atmospheric CO2 is accelerating global warming and putting the 1.5 °C climate goal in jeopardy. The energy sector is still the biggest polluter because of the continued use of fossil fuels. Photocatalytic CO2 reduction driven by solar energy provides a sustainable pathway for the transformation of CO2 into useful fuels and chemicals. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) constitute an exciting class of materials for CO2 capture and conversion, due to their high surface areas, tunable porosity and rich functionality. Bio-MOFs are compose

A green light emitting turn-on ionic liquid-based nano-optode for selective and sensitive detection of dextran sulphate.

Dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) is a polyanionic derivative of dextran, synthesized through the esterification of dextran with chlorosulfonic acid. DSS is a heparin-like polysaccharide; excessive use of DSS can lead to several adverse effects, including joint stiffness, pain, and hair loss. Therefore, developing a rapid and accurate method for the detection of DSS is essential for clinical diagnostics and treatment. Recently, the design of advanced photo-functional materials based on ionic liquids (ILs) has attracted significant attention due to their unique physicochemical properties, such as th

Complement receptor 3-like immunoreactivity in the light green cells and the canopy cells of the pond snail, Lymnaea stagnalis.

We observed CR3-like immunoreactivity in the central nervous system (CNS) and its surrounding peripheral nerves of the pond snail, Lymnaea stagnalis. In the CNS of L. stagnalis, the immunoreactivity presenting meshwork-like structure was detected in some neurosecretory cells, which are the light green cells (LGCs) and the canopy cells (CCs), both controlling the body growth. The immunoreactivity was also observed along the edges of median lip nerves. The immunoreactive regions in the median lip nerves appeared to form the axonal plates, from which the LGCs and the CCs release molluscan insulin

Temperature treatments of dark-grown pea seedlings cause an accelerated greening in the light at different levels of gene expression.

We have previously shown that heat-shock in the dark evokes photomorphogenesis-like effects and circadian rhythmicity at the level of mRNAs when applied to emerging pea plantlets during several consecutive days [15]. Here we extend these findings by showing that a temperature shift to 10 degrees C above average and a single heat-shock are sufficient for induction of circadian rhythmicity and changes in morphogenesis. The maximum response to a single heat-shock occurs at days 2 to 3 after sowing indicating additional developmental control of the response. An increasing number of heat-shock trea

Monochromatic green light programs the chicken embryo intestinal microbiota and mucosal barrier via the melatonin-Nrf2-nitrate-tryptophan pathway.

Newly hatched chicks are susceptible to opportunistic pathogens because of their immature intestinal barrier and developing microbiota. This study investigated whether continuous in ovo monochromatic light exposure was associated with intestinal microbial and mucosal phenotypes at hatch. Compared with the other light treatments, green-light exposure was associated with increased pineal Arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase (AANAT) expression, elevated plasma melatonin, enhanced phospho- Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related Factor 2 (p-Nrf2)-related antioxidant signaling, reduced Inducible Nitric Ox

Green Light Exposure Improves Pain and Quality of Life in Fibromyalgia Patients: A Preliminary One-Way Crossover Clinical Trial.

OBJECTIVE: Fibromyalgia is a functional pain disorder in which patients suffer from widespread pain and poor quality of life. Fibromyalgia pain and its impact on quality of life are not effectively managed with current therapeutics. Previously, in a preclinical rat study, we demonstrated that exposure to green light-emitting diodes (GLED) for 8 hours/day for 5 days resulted in antinociception and reversal of thermal and mechanical hypersensitivity associated with models of injury-related pain. Given the safety of GLED and the ease of its use, our objective is to administer GLED as a potential …

Redox-Tuned Oxycarbamates Enable Divergent C─N and C─C Functionalization of Indolizines Under Photoredox Catalysis With Green Light.

Nitrogen-centered radicals (NCRs) provide direct access to C─N bonds, but their broader use remains limited by the need for strongly reducing photocatalysts, high-energy irradiation, and incomplete control over competing radical transfer pathways. Here we show that nonafluoromesitylsulfonyl (Nms)-substituted oxycarbamates represent a redox-lowered class of amidyl-radical precursors that can be activated under green light by a bichromophoric ruthenium photocatalyst. The electron-deficient sulfonyl group lowers the reduction potential of the N─O bond sufficiently to enable single-electron cleava…
