The guinea pig pneumonia model mimics Legionnaires' disease as seen in immunocompromised humans, with high untreated fatality rates and as such lends itself to studies of experimental chemotherapy. Over the past 10 years, the status of human infection with guinea worm (Dracunculus medinensis) in the Central African Republic (CAR) has been difficult to ascertain. The purpose of this paper is to understand the physiologic feature of the ampullar endolymphatic potential (AEP) in the guinea pigs (n = 35). The high input impedence microelectrode amplifier was used. The effects of asphyxia, furosemide and ischemia on the AEP were observed. The AEP was 4.55 +/- 1.35 mV, (n = 35) in normal. Amlexanox (AMLX), an anti-allergic agent, is available in Japan as Elics opthalmic solution, Solfa nasal douche and Solfa tablets. In early 1987 guidelines were re-enforced for pre-employment medicals and 6-monthly health checks on foodhandlers in the Ok Tedi mining project in Papua New Guinea. The health monitoring program was stepped up as a result of two typhoid cases imported from the highlands and catering subcontractors failing to comply with the necessary pre-placement medicals for foodhandlers. Antigenicity of penicillin G (PCG) was studied in guinea pigs. PCG 5 mg, 10 mg or 25 mg with Freund's complete adjuvant each on days 0, 7 and 21 was injected to a guinea pig: intramuscularly into both thighs and intracutaneously into four locations on the back. Enterosiderosis in both SPF Hartley guinea pigs and vitamin C-deficient animals of the same strain were studied by light and electron microscopy. Enterosiderosis was detected in all animals in the present study. The exceptional carcinoresistance of guinea-pigs is well known and only a few cases of spontaneous leukaemia and several very rare cases of lymphoma have been reported in the literature. A spontaneous malignant tumor in an old male hybrid guinea-pig is described. The monomorphous aspect of the tumour, the cellular cohesiveness, the "starry-sky" pattern and the immunocytological characterization of tumour cells as B lymphocytes bearing IgM, lead to describe this tumour as a probable spontaneous Burkitt-type malignant lymphoblastic lymphoma.

We have induced a basophil hypersensitivity reaction in the upper tarsal conjunctiva of the guinea pig by methods that induce a comparable basophil hypersensitivity reaction in the flank. Except for its role in the inhibition of growth hormone secretion, the function of this molecule in the remainder of the central nervous system is unknown.
