Plants use complex signal transduction pathways to perceive and react to various biotic and/or abiotic stresses. As a consequence of this signaling, plants can modify their metabolism to adapt themselves to new conditions. One such change is the accumulation of proline in response to drought and salinity stresses. We have studied drought and salinity induced proline accumulation and the roles of Ca2+ (10 mM) and indoleacetic acid (IAA, 0.3 mM) in this response. Subjecting seedlings to both drought (6% polyethylene glycol, PEG) and salinity (150 mM NaCl) stress resulted in a dramatic increase i

The regulatory mechanism underlying plant height determination in woody plants remains a long-standing key scientific issue, and the coordinated manner by which positive and negative regulators maintain endogenous hormone homeostasis and modulate final plant architecture is still poorly understood. Here, we identified LfiRAV7 as a pivotal negative regulator of internode elongation in Lagerstroemia indica, providing novel insights into the functional role of APETALA2/Ethylene-Responsive Factor (AP2/ERF) family Related to ABI3/VP1 (RAV) members in governing woody plant architecture. BACKGROUND: Fusarium wilt of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (FOL), is a devastating soil-borne disease. Due to the limitations of conventional methods, sustainable biocontrol strategies are required. Bacillus velezensis is considered a promising biocontrol agent; however, the strain-specific nature of its antifungal and plant-growth-promoting mechanisms demands further investigation. RESULTS: We demonstrated the efficacy of B. velezensis BV25 against tomato Fusarium wilt. In vitro assays showed that FOL growth was significantly inhibited by bo

Gut-derived indole metabolites are implicated in the gut-kidney axis, but the factors controlling the intestinal conversion of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) to skatole remain incompletely defined. We developed a deterministic, hypothesis-generating framework that represents this conversion as a finite-pool allocation process governed by pH-dependent ecological permissiveness, terminal-conversion capacity, precursor availability, spatial progression, and competing loss. The model separates the available-pool scale from a dimensionless integrated conversion exposure, Ψ. Across 5400 loss-free scenar

BACKGROUND: Ligninolytic fungi are promising organisms in developing bioremediation technologies due to their ability to degrade various pollutants. Fungi and their extracellular enzymes in soil inevitably collide with metabolites produced by other organisms. Here, we investigated the effect of some natural metabolites on the degradation of a model mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by the fungus Pleurotus ostreatus var. Florida.
METHODS: Fungus was grown in the liquid medium containing PAHs with or without the addition of natural metabolites. The degraded PAHs and the identif

Cryptococcus neoformans is the top-ranked W.H.O. fungal priority pathogen, but tools for generating conditional mutations are limited. Auxin-inducible degron systems permit rapid and effective cellular depletion of a tagged protein of interest upon adding a small molecule. These tools are invaluable, particularly for studying essential genes, which may play important roles in pathogen biology. AID2 is one such system that improves on previous strategies. This system achieves greater sensitivity and specificity through an auxin derivative, 5-Ph-IAA, alongside an OsTIR1F74G mutant. We adapted th

The use of beneficial bacterial strains is proposed as a nature based practice to support sustainable crop production. Strains exposed to extreme environmental stress may have developed robust stress resistance and the capacity to enhance plant growth under unfavorable conditions. Our study provides the new aspect in characterising bacteria from polluted soil. The novelty of our study was isolation of bacteria from a long-term contaminated site and their testing for plant growth promoting mechanisms. The aim of this research was to characterize bacterial strains, collected from the root zone o

Wucai (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis var. rosularis Tsen) belongs to the Brassica genus of the Cruciferae family, and its leaf curl is a typical feature that distinguishes Wucai from other nonheading cabbage subspecies. Our previous research found that plant hormones were involved in the development of the leaf curl in Wucai. However, the molecular mechanisms and the hormones regulating the formation of leaf curl in Wucai have not yet been reported. This study aimed to understand the molecular functions related to hormone metabolism during the formation of leaf curl in Wucai. A total o

Directionality in the intercellular transport of the plant hormone auxin is determined by polar plasma membrane localization of PIN-FORMED (PIN) auxin transport proteins. However, apart from PIN phosphorylation at conserved motifs, no further determinants explicitly controlling polar PIN sorting decisions have been identified. Here we present Arabidopsis WAVY GROWTH 3 (WAV3) and closely related RING-finger E3 ubiquitin ligases, whose loss-of-function mutants show a striking apical-to-basal polarity switch in PIN2 localization in root meristem cells. WAV3 E3 ligases function as essential determ

AIM: To determine the cold tolerance and plant growth promotion potential of Serratia marcescens strain SRM (MTCC 8708).
METHODS AND RESULTS: Serratia marcescens strain SRM was isolated from the flowers of summer squash plants, showing no apparent symptoms of yellow vine disease. It was evaluated for growth and plant growth promotion attributes at 15 and 4 degrees C. At 15 degrees C, the isolate was able to solubilize 76.6 microg ml(-1) of P and produce Indole Acetic Acid, IAA (11.1 microg ml(-1)). HCN and siderophore production were also detected at 15 degrees C. The isolate retained all the

Precise delivery of functional agents to specific plant organs remains a central challenge, as synthetic materials rarely access endogenous long-distance transport pathways. Here, we report an auxin-functionalized nanocarrier strategy that enables programmable systemic transport by interfacing engineered materials with plant signaling networks. Nanocarrier dimensions were tuned to ∼55 nm to limit endocytosis and favor extracellular localization, while auxin motifs were introduced on the particle surface. This design establishes a predominantly extracellular interface that hijacks polar auxin t

Cadmium (Cd) contamination, a critical type of heavy metal pollution, exerts severe adverse effects on plant growth and poses substantial risks to food safety. Although plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have demonstrated great potential in mitigating metal-induced stress in plants, a critical limitation remains: most PGPR strains only provide protective effects to plants, failing to reduce the bioavailability of toxic metals in the environment. We herein report the isolation and characterization of Microbacterium algeriense strain C14, which exhibits dual functionality: indole-3-acet

Nitrate (NO3-), besides serving as a major N source, also acts as a signalling molecule in plant growth and development. Studies on NO3- dependent regulation of root growth in wheat (Triticum aestivum) are mostly limited to morphophysiological changes, while the underlying signalling mechanisms remain largely unexplored. To bridge this gap, the present study aims to get a mechanistic understanding of the NO3- dependent regulation of root growth in wheat seedlings. For this, uniformly germinated two days old wheat seedlings were exposed to nitric oxide (NO) donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP), aux

Eczema is also known as atopic dermatitis, which goes on to affect the skin as a chronic inflammatory disease. It is associated with a constant feeling of scratchiness, erthyma and disruption of the natural skin barrier. Treatment provided at present may improve some of the symptoms, for instance use of corticosteroids or immunosuppressive agents, however, there is an overwhelming need for better focused and effective methods of treatment with minimal adverse effects. Fevipiprant, a DP2 receptor antagonist, has emerged as a promising agent targeting prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) pathways, which play
