[Childhood trauma in the etiology of borderline personality disorder].

Serious, prolonged intrafamilial childhood sexual abuse is considered to be the main etiological factor in about half of the patients with b … evelopment, including the distortion of the sense of identity, self-regulation, and the patterns of interpersonal relations. Viewed from the perspective of the trauma concept, the entire range of adult borderline symptoms are considered as being the consequences of severe complex traumatic experiences. Other clinicians regard such an abuse as a marker of the severity of …

A social relations model test of Sullivan's anxiety hypothesis.

Interpersonal relationships and mutual influence are important aspects of both personality and behavior. However, empirical tests of mutual influence in anxiety have not occurred because of difficulties in design and assessment. In this report, we present a study of two training groups of graduate students and a study of an outpatient psychotherapy group. In both studies relationship-specific variance was significant and accounted for a substantial proportion of the systematic variance. In the training groups, there were also significant individual differences in experienced anxiety. These stu…

During the year their insomnia began, chronic insomniacs experienced a greater number of stressful life events compared with previous or sub … of insomnia, they had less satisfying relationships with their parents as well as problems in other interpersonal relations and in their self-concepts. Currently, insomniacs felt considerably less satisfied with their lives, had lower self-concepts, and had greater difficulty with interpersonal relationships. Nomothetic and idiographic patterns of responses to emotions in borderline personality disorder.

According to Linehan's (1993) biosocial theory, emotion dysregulation is a core feature of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Despite significant advances in our understanding of emotion dysregulation in BPD, the specific associations among prompting events, discrete emotions, and selected regulation strategies (adaptive and maladaptive) have not yet been detailed. We explored these relations in a daily diary study of 8 participants (Mage = 21.57, 63% female; 63% Asian) with BPD over 10-12 weeks. Participants reported prompting events of interpersonal conflict, emotional experiences of anx

Socioeconomic Status and Psychopathic Traits in a Community Sample of Youth.

The current study aims to address socioeconomic status (SES) as a moderating variable between psychopathic traits and conduct problems in a sample of 2432 Dutch adolescents (Mage = 14.50 years, SD = 1.67, 56% male). Both family and neighborhood SES were measured, with income as a proxy for the level of SES. There were small but significant positive correlations between the behavioral and interpersonal dimensions of psychopathy and family SES, a small but significant negative correlation between the affective dimension and neighborhood SES, and a small and significant positive correlation betwe

Adolescent peer relations, friendships, and romantic relationships: do they predict social anxiety and depression?

This study examined multiple levels of adolescents' interpersonal functioning, including general peer relations (peer crowd affiliations, peer victimization), and qualities of best friendships and romantic relationships as predictors of symptoms of depression and social anxiety. An ethnically diverse sample of 421 adolescents (57% girls; 14 to 19 years) completed measures of peer crowd affiliation, peer victimization, and qualities of best friendships and romantic relationships. Peer crowd affiliations (high and low status), positive qualities in best friendships, and the presence of a dating

Interpersonal problems and negative affect in Borderline Personality and Depressive Disorders in daily life.

Theories of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) suggest that interpersonal problems in BPD act as triggers for negative affect and, at the same time, are a possible result of affective dysregulation. Therefore, we assessed the relations between momentary negative affect (hostility, sadness, fear) and interpersonal problems (rejection, disagreement) in a sample of 80 BPD and 51 depressed outpatients at 6 time-points over 28 days. Data were analyzed using multivariate multi-level modeling to separate momentary-, day-, and person-level effects. Results revealed a mutually reinforcing relationsh

Sexual revictimization: the impact of attachment anxiety, accumulated trauma, and response to childhood sexual abuse disclosure.

It has been proposed that a complexity of personal, interpersonal, and environmental factors is related to sexual revictimization among childhood sexual abuse survivors. In this study, we investigated the relations between attachment dimensions, exposure to accumulated childhood traumas, reaction to childhood sexual abuse disclosure, and adult sexual revictimization. Participants were 60 Israeli women with histories of childhood sexual abuse. Seventy percent of the women reported adult sexual revictimization. Revictimization was related to higher attachment anxiety but not to higher attachment

Glial choristoma of the tongue. Clinicopathological analysis of a case and pathogenetic insights.

The aim of this paper is to review the use of nasal stimulants in interpersonal communication. The literature survey was performed from PubMed, ProQuest Central database of Anadolu University, and Google Scholar. Throughout history, various materials have been used as nasal stimulants to communicate and socialize intensively. Snuff is tobacco inhaled into the nostrils. It goes through the nasal mucosa into the blood and affects the neural system. Maras Powder is also a smokeless tobacco type common in the southeast of Turkey, especially in Gaziantep and Maras, which gave its name to the produc

Interpersonal needs and psychological pain: The role of brooding and rejection sensitivity.

The interpersonal theory of suicide proposes that thwarted belongingness (TB) and perceived burdensomeness (PB) predict psychological pain and desire for suicide. Brooding may be a mechanism in explaining how TB and PB predict pain. The conceptual similarity between rejection sensitivity (RS) and TB suggests that individuals with high RS may be likely to experience psychological pain in the context of TB. To test this model, 155 college students completed measures of psychological pain, TB, PB, brooding, and RS. As predicted, brooding mediated the relations between both TB and PB and psycholog

Cognitive training for divergent thinking in schizophrenia: a pilot study.

Individuals with schizophrenia demonstrate deficits in divergent thinking. This ability is indispensable for generating creative solutions and navigating the complexities of social interactions. In a pilot study, seventeen stable schizophrenia outpatients were randomly assigned to a training program for divergent thinking or a control program on convergent thinking. After eight weeks of training, participants in the divergent thinking program had significantly greater improvements on measures of idea fluency, negative symptoms, and interpersonal relations than did participants receiving the co…

[Early childhood autism and schizophrenia].

The lecture is based on the phenomenalism of autism and schizophrenia. Essentially their mutual appearance is described: the contact and relation disability. According to Merleau-Ponty, "être au monde" means "être ouvert au monde" and to be possible to be open "á soi-même". The clinical reports of the autism and of the schizophrenia may be understood as particularly phenomenons of the interpersonal relations. Three examples illustrate the amplified theory. Finally the autors emphasize the importance of the contact and of the relation in the therapeutic work with those autistic children as to g…

Effect of buflomedil on behaviour, memory, and intellectual capacity in patients with dementia. A placebo-controlled study.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study of the efficacy and safety of buflomedil in the treatment of dementia was conducted in 55 patients. A statistically significant improvement was achieved for such characteristics as mood, self-care, alertness, emotional lability, indifference, hostility, and anxiety. Compared with placebo, buflomedil showed a clear superiority with regard to improvement in cognitive dysfunction and psychosomatic dysfunction, with a trend toward statistical significance in improvement in interpersonal relations. Secondary analysis of a subset of patients without …

'But the patient doesn't seem borderline': some observations on a common diagnostic error.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) may be overlooked when the therapist does not occupy the role of primary attachment object. In such cases, characteristic borderline dynamics emerge chiefly in external relationships rather than within psychotherapy, leading clinicians to underestimate the disorder. Drawing on Gunderson's original ego psychology-object relations model, this paper argues that BPD is fundamentally organised around relationships with emotionally significant others. Diagnostic formulations that rely heavily on transference dynamics may therefore miss BPD in seemingly organised

Physical and Social Factors Differentiating Acute and Chronic Low Back Pain Among Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprise Workers in Japan: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Low back pain is common and negatively impacts quality of life and workplace productivity. However, few studies have focused on small- and m … pain using a self-reported questionnaire. Workplace physical (physical load) and social (stress of interpersonal relations) factors were measured using a brief job stress-related questionnaire. Associations between workplace factors and acute and chronic low back pain were evaluated using multivariable, multinomial logistic regression. Among the 762 workers, 50.9% and 7 …
