We present a case of a 57 year-old patient with a right ventricular metastasis of leiomyosarcoma. The patient was subjected to a tumour excision and a supplementary radiotherapy 12 years earlier. Non-characteristic symptoms and adverse medical history of coronary heart disease (three remote myocardial infarctions) delayed diagnosis and treatment. Because the disease was advanced, the patient was disqualified from surgical treatment. Good clinical condition, however, allowed for gemcitabine treatment, however, long-termed prognosis is poor.

Leiomyosarcomas of the spermatic cord are extremely rare. This article reviews the pathophysiology of spermatic cord leiomyosarcomas and the reasons for recurrence, and discusses the management options. Radical inguinal orchiectomy and high ligation of the cord is the standard primary surgical procedure.

A case of scrotum leiomyosarcoma is presented in a 87 year-old patient. It debuts as a painless lesion in left hemiescrotum, of one year of evolution. Bony metastasis were observed in the moment of the diagnosis. We carried out a literature revision proving the rarity of this lesion type (only 27 cases have been described), and that, contrary to another leiomiosarcomas type, their aggressive evolution is not habitual in this localization.

A retrospective review over a 5-year period was performed to identify clinical characteristic features and survival in 14 dogs with intestinal leiomyosarcoma after surgery. Anemia, hypoglycemia, polyuria, and polydipsia were identified as common clinical signs in these dogs. Dogs that survived the immediate postoperative period had a median survival of 21.3 months, (range 0.1-72.5 months). The 1- and 2-year survival rates were 75 and 66%, respectively. We report four cases of leiomyosarcoma of the rectum suspected by endoscopic ultrasonography. Three patients were treated by local excision and one by abdominoperineal resection. An excision of the mass via a Kraske's approach was used. Leiomyosarcoma confined to the rectum wall can be treated by local excision. Endosonography can provide exact estimation of the lesion and is of great value in selecting the appropriate treatment. The treatment is surgical excision with wide margins. We report an unusual case of an enterovesical fistula caused by leiomyosarcoma infiltrating the intestinal wall and urinary bladder. The patient had previously presented recurrent urinary tract infection for one year. Although he has residual tumor, so far this elderly patient has survived for three years post-operatively without further antineoplastic treatment.

Karyotypic analysis of a leiomyosarcoma of the retroperitoneum revealed some structural and numerical changes. Review of the literature showed that some of these changes, namely involvement of 1p13 and 11p13 and monosomy 9, 18 and 22 seemed to occur frequently. These changes could be characteristic of leiomyosarcoma and define a cytogenetic subgroup within this tumor entity.

OBJECTIVE: The authors studied 6 cases of osseous leiomyosarcoma of the spine. Two of these cases were of immunocompromised human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated primary vertebral leiomyosarcomas. Primary pulmonary leiomyosarcoma (PPL) is an extremely rare form of lung cancer, accounting for only a small fraction of all lung cancer cases.
