Outcomes of retrograde flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy for stone disease in patients with anomalous kidneys.

Due to the presence of structural and anatomical differences that accompany anomalous kidneys, currently available endourological modalities such as SWL and PNL may be insufficient, or additional laparoscopic assistance may be required. The present study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of retrograde flexible ureterorenoscopic stone treatment in patients with kidney anomalies. Over the last 3 years, 25 patients with renal stones in anomalous kidneys were consecutively treated by flexible ureterorenoscopy and holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy. Among the 25 patients, fiberoptic or digital fl

Treatment of ureteral calculus obstruction with laser lithotripsy in an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).

An adult female bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) presented with acute anorexia secondary to progressive azotemia (blood urea nitrogen = 213 mg/dl, creatinine [Cr] = 9.5 mg/dl) and electrolyte abnormalities (K = 7.4 mEq/L). It was later diagnosed with postrenal obstruction secondary to bilaterally obstructing ureteral calculi seen on ultrasound. Treatment of the obstruction required two endoscopic procedures, cystoscopy for ureteral stent placement and ureteroscopy to perform intracorporeal lithotripsy on the obstructing calculi. Before the first procedure, the dolphin's azotemia was sta

Comparison of Ho:YAG and pTm:YAG lasers in mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy: safety, efficiency, and efficacy for lithotripsy.

BACKGROUND: While several in-vitro studies have compared the performance of Holmium:YAG and pulsed Thulium:YAG lasers, no studies to date have directly compared the performance of these lasers during mini- PCNL. Herein, we aimed to compare the clinical effectiveness and stone-free rates of Ho:YAG and pThulium:YAG lasers in patients undergoing mini-PCNL. METHODS: This prospective, non-randomized study included 264 patients who underwent mini-PCNL: 170 patients in the Ho:YAG group and 94 patients in the pTm:YAG group. Demographic characteristics, stone-related variables, and intraoperative and

To Evaluate the Impact of Ho:YAG Laser Lithotripsy for Ureteroscopic Removal of Proximal and Distal Ureter Calculi.

Background Urinary calculus illness is a prevalent clinical issue encountered by the medical community, particularly urologists, in contemporary society. Laser technologies have been widely accepted as standard modalities for lithotripsy applications. Using the Ho:YAG laser has expanded the range of applications for ureteroscopic stone management (URS), enabling the treatment of bigger stones in all regions of the upper urinary tract. It is noteworthy that ureteroscopy (URS) demonstrates superior rates of stone clearance for distal stones, regardless of their size, with a success rate of 94.5%

Case report of rescue of a patient with COVID-19 and shock after holmium laser lithotripsy.

Lithotripsy is the primary form of treatment for ureteral calculus. According to clinical data, ureteroscopic lithotripsy (URSL) is characterized by better efficacy, a lower risk of complications, and a quicker postoperative recovery, when compared with open surgery. However, elderly patients often have a variety of chronic diseases that can directly or indirectly influence intraoperative care and postoperative recovery. It is important that medical staff closely observe changes in the postoperative condition of patients and provide them with the best quality care. In order to control the prog

Minimally Invasive Treatment of Urolithiasis in Children: Evaluation of the Use of Flexible Ureterorenoscopy and Laser Lithotripsy.

Urolithiasis is a multifactorial disease; in recent years, its incidence has gradually increased in pediatric age. Among the factors involved in urolithiasis pathophysiology, urinary tract anomalies and metabolic diseases are the most relevant, although ethnicity and environmental factors may have an important role. The advances in technology and miniaturization of endoscopic devices have permitted the use of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) to treat kidney and ureteral stones. Nowadays, flexible ureterorenoscopy and laser lithotripsy, which are techniques that have been applied in the man

Failure of holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser lithotripsy in two horses with calculi in the urinary bladder.

Holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Ho:YAG) laser lithotripsy was attempted in a mare and a gelding with calculi in the urinary bladder. The procedure was unsuccessful in producing adequate fragmentation of the calculi. In the gelding, pulsed dye laser lithotripsy was subsequently used to fragment the urolith. Manual removal of the urolith via the urethra was performed in the mare.
