Lens epithelia obtained from 37 patients who had undergone cataract surgery operation were examined by using transmission electron microscope. Their ages varied between 60-79 years and mean age was 70.2 years. A patient with Wilson disease, under prolonged treatment with penicillamine, developed lesions of elastosis perforans serpiginosa (EPS). Examination of biopsy specimens by light microscopy revealed the characteristic changes of EPS. Examination by transmission electron microscopy revealed structural changes in the elastic fibers not previously described. The appearance of the lesions by scanning electron microscopy is described for the first time. It is suggested that penicillamine induced EPS may be morphologically distinct from the idiopathic form.

A case of idiopathic nonarteriosclerotic cerebral calcification was studied post mortem by histochemical and scanning and transmission electron microscopic methods. Calcification was found bilaterally in the basal ganglia, cerebral cortex, granular layer and white matter of the cerebellum. The present study was undertaken to investigate ultrastructurally the epithelium covering lymphoid nodules obtained from colonoscopic biopsies of the human colon and rectum.
