A Wrist System for Daily Stress Monitoring Using Mid-Level Physiological Fusion and Late Fusion with Survey-Based Labels.

UNLABELLED: Multi-sensor fusion can improve daily stress monitoring. METHODS: A wrist-worn device includes a system of the galvanic skin response (GSR), PPG-derived heart rate variability (HRV), skin temperature, and SpO2, paired with self-reported questionnaires. The device streams data to a mobile app over Bluetooth Low Energy and updates the UI within 1-2 s. The physiological features are captured within a fixed window around each questionnaire time and undergo a mid-level fusion; late fusion is also evaluated using self-reports. RESULTS: Against a commercial reference device, the propose

Dynamic energy metabolism physiological biosensing via integrated sensitive bivariate sensors and electronics for in situ monitoring of scalable cell models.

Energy metabolism is a fundamental physiological process essential to sustain basic cellular life activities through nutrient uptake and metabolite production. Classic metabolic analysis techniques, including molecular imaging, metabolomics, and cellular assays, provide valuable insights but are often limited by phototoxicity, invasive labeling, and poor temporal resolution derived from the endpoint methods. Hence, this work develops a noninvasive bivariate sensing platform to compatibly measure dynamic energy metabolism of multiscale cell models, characterized by the metabolic fluxes of mitoc

Mid-term results after ultrasound-monitored treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hips: to what extent can a physiological development be expected?

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiological outcome after ultrasound-monitored treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip at the age of 3 years. We retrospectively reviewed the findings of the second radiographic follow-up of 72 consecutive infants (mean age 31.3 months) with residual developmental dysplasia of the hip. Statistical analysis showed significant regression of acetabular index. Nevertheless, nine hips in seven children showed substantial residual dysplasia. Although remodelling of the acetabulum can be expected, there remains a risk of residual dysplasia. For t

[Cytogenetic analysis of cosmonaut's blood lymphocytes exposed to low space radiation doses and its place in clinical-physiological health monitoring].

The article discusses the informative significance and pertinence of cytogenetic analysis of peripheral blood lymphocytes to the clinical-physiological investigations of cosmonauts conducted before and after space missions (SM) of varying duration. The authors point out high sensitivity of the technique, relative simplicity and affordability of the analysis of instable chromosomal aberrations including such radiation effect markers as dicentrics and centric rings. Cytogenetic investigation of cosmonauts could be used to estimate ionizing radiation dose, and to predict delayed effects.

Blood pressure outcomes at 18 months in primary care patients prescribed remote physiological monitoring for hypertension: a prospective cohort study.

This pragmatic matched cohort study using EHR data extended the follow up to 18 months for BP outcomes comparing individuals prescribed remote patient monitoring (n = 288) and temporally-matched controls (n = 1152) from six primary care practices. After 18 months, the RPM-prescribed cohort had greater BP control < 140/90 mm Hg (RPM cohort: 71.5%, control cohort: 51.9%, p < 0.001) and lower systolic BP (131.6 versus 136.0 mm Hg, p = 0.004) using office and home measurements. BP control at 18 months assessed by office measurements only was also higher in the RPM group (62.2% versus 51.9%, p = 0.

An intelligent "chemical tongue" for high-order monitoring ATP-related physiological phosphates and ATP hydrolysis through diverse transduction principles.

For discriminating diverse analytes and monitoring a specific chemical reaction, the emerging multi-channel "chemical nose/tongue" is challenging multi-material "chemical nose/tongue". The former contributes greatly to integrating different transduction principles from a single sensing material, avoiding the need for complex design, high cost, and tedious operation involved with the latter. Therefore, this high-order sensing puts a particular emphasis on the effects of encapsulation. Herein, the plasmonic gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) are encapsulated as a core into the fluorescent guanine monop

Blood pressure outcomes at 12 months in primary care patients prescribed remote physiological monitoring for hypertension: a prospective cohort study.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) for hypertension enables automatic transmission of blood pressure (BP) and pulse into the electronic health record (EHR), but its effectiveness in primary care is unknown. This pragmatic matched cohort study using EHR data compared BP outcomes between individuals prescribed RPM and temporally-matched controls from six primary care practices. We retrospectively created a cohort of 288 Medicare-enrolled patients prescribed BP RPM (cases) and 1152 propensity score-matched controls (1:4). Matching was based on age, sex, systolic blood pressure (SBP), marital status,

The Impact of a Designated Cardiology Team Involving Telemedicine Home Monitoring on the Care of Children with Single-Ventricle Physiology After Norwood Palliation.

We evaluated the effect of an interdisciplinary single-ventricle task force (SVTF) that utilizes a family-driven, telemedicine home monitoring program on clinical outcomes of stage II admissions and its acceptance by parents and cardiologists. Study population was divided into two cohorts, one with Norwood surgery dates before the SVTF (pre-SVTF) and one interventional (post-SVTF). Post-SVTF data also included surveys of parents and cardiologists on the efficacy of the SVTF. Comparative and multivariate statistical testing was performed. Compared to the pre-SVTF group, the post-SVTF group had

Maternal blood platelet physiology and luteal-phase endocrinology as a means of monitoring pre- and postimplantation embryo viability following in vitro fertilization.

The discovery that the fertilized mouse ovum triggers an increased demand for platelets and results in thrombocytopenia during the preimplantation phase of pregnancy provides a monitor for embryo survival and viability. This paper reports a study in which the platelet count was significantly reduced throughout the human preimplantation phase of pregnancy and returned to normal following embryo implantation. The human embryo was shown to produce a platelet activating factor in vitro which caused the reduction in platelet count after embryo transfer. This factor in the embryo culture medium coul

Correlation Properties of Heart Rate Variability for Exercise Intensity Monitoring and Prescription During Constant-Load Cycling: A Comparison With Traditional Physiological Variables.

This study investigated the applicability of the short-term scaling exponent alpha 1 of detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA-a1) as a marker of internal load during constant-load cycling. The aim was to explore DFA-a1 dynamics across the moderate, heavy, and severe intensity domains and assess its utility for both monitoring and prescribing exercise intensity. Sixteen untrained adults (3 women) performed an incremental cycling stage test and three constant-load sessions (moderate, heavy, and severe). Gas exchange kinetics, blood lactate concentration, and heart rate (HR) were measured. Ventilat

High-fidelity minute-level physiologic trajectories after ROSC from linked monitor-defibrillator recordings in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

BACKGROUND: Early post-ROSC physiology changes rapidly, but most studies rely on a single handover set of vital signs, which can miss trajectories and time spent hypotensive or hypoxemic. We aimed to describe minute-level early post-ROSC blood pressure and oxygenation and examine their association with outcomes. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Victoria, Australia (2019-2023). We linked the Victorian Ambulance Cardiac Arrest Registry to Zoll® monitor-defibrillator recordings, aligned measurements to recorded ROSC, aggregated readings into 1-min bins, an
