Role of preoperative imaging in the diagnosis of primary diffuse craniospinal leptomeningeal gliomatosis.

We present an unusual case of primary diffuse craniospinal leptomeningeal gliomatosis (PGDL), who was initially diagnosed on the basis of imaging, laboratory findings, and cranial meningeal biopsy as tuberculous meningitis and showed clinical deterioration while on anti-tuberculous treatment for 2 months. The patient was subsequently correctly diagnosed on diffusion weighted and post-contrast T1-weighted imaging of the craniospinal axis along with whole body imaging. The radiological findings were confirmed on histopathology and immunohistochemistry performed from the previous block as well as

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma: a case report of a 41-year-old female.

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) represents an exceedingly rare and aggressive malignancy, exhibiting a unique combination of teratomatous and carcinosarcomatous features. Phenotypically, these neoplasms consist of benign neural components alongside various malignant epithelial and mesenchymal elements. Consequently, the clinical presentation and therapeutic strategies for this tumor entity still necessitate further case-based elucidation. A case involving a 41-year-old female diagnosed with SNTCS is delineated herein. The patient had experienced right-sided nasal obstruction and intermi

A Constellation of Atypical Findings in a Nine-Year-Old Child With Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial Tumors: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNETs) are rare, generally benign, mixed neuronal-glial neoplasms occurring most often between 10 and 14 years of age. These lesions are classically cortically based and solitary, found preferentially in the temporal lobe, and most commonly present with seizures. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), these lesions are generally cystic and have variable contrast enhancement, which, when present, often involves the periphery. Rarely, lesions followed radiographically may demonstrate delayed contrast enhancement. Here, we present a case of multifocal DNETs

An Unusual Presentation of Esthesioneuroblastoma in a Young Pregnant Female.

BACKGROUND: Esthesioneuroblastoma is a rare neuroepithelial tumor arising from the olfactory epithelium in the cribriform plate or nasal cavity. It accounts for 1-5% of cases of malignant neoplasms of the nasal cavity. METHODS: A 20-year-old pregnant female presented with painful loss of vision in both eyes, on imaging diagnosed as meningioma. There was a progressive increase in pain along with diminution of vision to the extent of complete loss of vision in the right eye. RESULTS: In view of increasing proptosis with progressive complete loss of vision in the left eye also, she consulted th

Papillary neuroepithelial tumor of the pineal region. A case report.

We present here an unusual case of papillary neuroepithelial tumor of the pineal region. The patient was a 29-year-old female who presented with headaches. A computed tomography scan revealed a tumorous lesion at the pineal region and hydrocephalus. The resected tumor was composed of columnar and cuboidal cells showing characteristics of papillary growth. The tumor cells exhibited diffuse and intense immunoreactivity to cytokeratins and neural cell adhesion molecule. The tumor expressed abundant levels of transthyretin (prealbumin) and appeared ependymal in nature, with numerous microlumens de

[Pineal anlage tumor in a 8-month-old boy. The first case reported in Spanish language].

BACKGROUND: The pineal anlage tumor is a very infrequent malign neoplasm. Even though it has been documented in literature, it is not listed yet in the World Health Organization's last nervous system classification (2007). It is a primitive pineal tumor with neuroepithelial and ectomesenchyme differentiation. Due to its low frequency, the understanding of its biological behavior and a suitable treatment are incomplete. In a search performed in PubMed with the term pineal anlage tumor, only seven informed cases were identified between 1989 and 2011. CLINICAL CASE: An 8-month-old infant was bro

Myxoid glioneuronal tumor of the septum pellucidum with concurrent dual PDGFRA and FGFR3 gene mutations: a case report and literature review.

Myxoid glioneuronal tumor (MGNT), a rare neuroepithelial neoplasm newly recognized in the 2021 World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System (5th edition), is associated with platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRA) gene alterations. While MGNT typically exhibits indolent histopathological features and a favorable clinical course, rare cases of intraventricular dissemination and leptomeningeal metastasis have been documented. We report a case of a 10-year-old female who presented with headache and was found to have an MGNT in the septum pelluc

Intracranial ependymoma and secondary hydrocephalus: a rare case report in a Camel (Camelus bactrianus).

Intracranial ependymomas are rare neuroepithelial tumors that arise from the ependymal lining of the ventricular system. Although sporadically reported in domestic species, primary brain tumors remain exceptionally rare in Old and New World camelids. This report describes the clinico-pathological characteristics of an intracranial ependymoma associated with secondary hydrocephalus in an adult female camel (Camelus bactrianus). The animal presented with progressive neurological signs, including a unilateral circling gait and ataxia. Computed tomography (CT) revealed asymmetric enlargement of th

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma ("mixed olfactory neuroblastoma-craniopharyngioma") presenting with syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone.

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTC) is a rare, aggressive, histologically heterogeneous neoplasm of the paranasal sinuses and nasopharnyx of adults that is composed of variably benign or malignant neuroepithelial, epithelial, and mesenchymal elements. Occasional cases show intracranial extension and may be operated on by neurosurgeons and encountered by neuropathologists who may not be familiar with the entity. STNCs have not previously been associated with functional hypersecretory status. We report a 59-year-old male who presented with headache and syndrome of inappropriate secretion of an

Recurrent high-grade astroblastoma with MN1-BEND2 fusion in spinal cord and literature review.

Astroblastoma is an uncommon tumor of the central nervous system. It is variable in morphology, but the astroblastic pseudorosettes and vascular hyalinization are the most important features. Most astroblastomas occur in the cerebral hemisphere. We report a recurrent high-grade astroblastoma with MN1-BEND2 fusion in the spinal cord. Two lesions were found in the T5-7 level and T12-L1 level, and they were well defined in images. Rhabdoid and signet-ring-like cells were observed. It may be classified as a high-grade tumor due to cellularity, high mitotic count, and pleomorphism. The tumor cells

[Diagnosis and treatment of intraocular tumors in the child].

PURPOSE: To remind of the absolute necessity for early diagnosis in the presence of ocular signs in children giving rise to possible intraocular tumours. METHOD: Based on our own experience of intraocular tumours in children, together with findings from the literature, diagnostic criteria and methods of treatment are presented. RESULTS: Retinoblastoma is the predominant cause of intraocular tumours in children, representing over 80% of cases under the age of 15 years. Other diseases may give rise to the same initial signs, usually leukocoria, sometimes strabismus, more rarely other atypical

Staged Gamma Knife radiosurgery for a rosette-forming glioneuronal tumor of the fourth ventricle: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Rosette-forming glioneuronal tumor (RGNT) is a rare slow-growing neoplasm with mixed glial and neurocytic components. Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment, whereas the role of adjuvant radiation therapies for residual or recurrent tumors has been poorly investigated. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a patient with a recurrent fourth ventricular RGNT who was treated with two-staged Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS). GKRS was effective in controlling tumor growth and safe up to seven years from treatment. CONCLUSIONS: This case suggests that GKRS may be a safe an

Tectal Rosette-Forming Glioneuronal Tumor - A Case Report Focusing on a Possible Role for Radiotherapy in Inoperable Tumors.

BACKGROUND: Rosette-forming glioneuronal tumor (RGNT) is a rare and distinctive glioneuronal tumor. Although surgical excision is considered the standard treatment for these slow growing WHO Grade I tumors, gross-total resection is achieved in less than 50% of RGNTs due to its localisation amidst vital structures. With very few cases with long term follow-up reported, there is limited knowledge of the natural clinical course and the role of radiotherapy in inoperable RGNTs. CASE DESCRIPTION: A previously well 26-year old male, presented with long standing headache, increasing gait instability

[Gliomatosis peritonei, an unusual abdominal carcinomatosis: report of two cases].

We report on 2 cases of ovarian teratoma associated with gliomatosis peritonei in 2 young girls aged 9 and 14 years. Gliomatosis peritonei is an unusual miliary-like peritoneal carcinomatosis of glial tissue. In our experience, follow-up was important to detect abdominal recurrence of glial implants, which had to be removed by iterative surgery. We report a 14-year follow-up and an unusual pleural metastatic disease.
