PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The neurohormone oxytocin (OXT) impacts food intake as well as cognitive, emotional, and social functioning-all of which are central to eating disorder (ED) pathology across the weight spectrum. Electrical stimulation of the sensory saphenous nerve leads to neurogenic edema formation in the innervated area of the paw of the anesthetized rat. Techniques for exteriorization of the carotid artery, catheterization of the sagittal sinus, hypophysectomy via a transnasopharyngeal approach, and ventricular and cisternal cannulation in the sheep are employed within the model. The identification of biomarkers for pulmonary exacerbations in cystic fibrosis (CF) is inevitable.
