Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) of the buccal mucosa, the diagnosis of which is based on subjective histologic evaluation, is a controversial entity of questionable existence. This report describes 2 rare cases of parakeratinized cyst arising from the buccal mucosa. Case 1 was a 60-year-old man with a 3-cm cyst and case 2 was a 16-year-old boy with a microcyst incidentally discovered on histology. Both lesions were essentially identical in histologic appearance and immunophenotype to intraosseous and gingival OKC, but they were clearly different from orthokeratinized odontogenic cysts and buccal

Non-odontogenic cystic lesions and so-called "pseudocystic" lesions of the jaws are reviewed, summarizing most recent data from the literature and with illustrations. Pseudocyst lesions include the aneurysmal bone cyst, the solitary bone cyst and Stafne's lacunae. Non-odontogenic cystic lesions, characterized by the presence of a non-odontogenic epithelial lining, are represented by the nasopalatin cyst, the nasoalveolar cyst and an entity currently covering globulomaxillary, midline palatin, midline mandibular and midline alveolar cysts.

If present, symptoms of naso-palatine duct cyst are swelling, mainly in the anterior part of the palate, sometimes associated with pain. The cyst can easily be seen on X-ray, especially on the occlusal view. Differential diagnostic problems are mainly limited to a dentigerous cyst of a mesiodens and to periapical lesions of the central incisors. Histologically, various types and combinations of epithelial lining can be found. In the cyst wall the identification of mucous glands, nerves and large blood vessels is rather frequent. Although the histology in itself is not always very typical for a
