Primary outcomes for orthognathic surgery and genioplasty patients include satisfaction with appearance, improved motor function, and enhanced quality of life. The goal of this study was to assess outcomes among patients undergoing these procedures, and to highlight the potential use of FACE-Q instrument for use in patients with dentofacial deformities. A total of 56 patients presenting for orthognathic surgery and/or osseous genioplasty completed the FACE-Q during preoperative and/or at postoperative visits. FACE-Q scores increased following surgery in satisfaction with facial appearance over

The management of posttraumatic vascular injury that presents after 8 h, or "ultra-time vascular injury", is daunting, and inciting recognition of this injury is vital. We retrospectively analyzed 29 patients with ultra-time vascular injuries to determine the patients' demographic characteristics and identify the determinants for amputation and disability. The age distribution of the high-risk population was from 18 years to 40 years, which indicated that these patients had plenty of productive life remaining. Injuries to the lower limbs (79.31%) were over four times more common than injuries

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Rhinoconjunctivitis, and especially allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (ARC) are increasing in prevalence, progressively affecting the well being of more and more adults and children. Clinical trials using allergen immunotherapy (AIT), the sole causal treatment of allergies, are being conducted, but discussions on optimal patient-related outcomes (PROs) are still ongoing.
RECENT FINDINGS: Almost all publications discussing PROs relate to adults. The authors comment on the importance of broader PROs when assessing the results of AIT trials, as focusing on only nasal symptom improv

Measuring outcome after spinal surgery is difficult. The objective of this study was to assess the use of four measures in establishing outcome in patients undergoing lumbar discectomy. Forty-six consecutive patients who had undergone two operations for lumbar disc prolapse and 54 patients who had undergone one operation for the same condition over the same period were identified. The SF-36 questionnaire was used to assess general health. The Roland-Morris questionnaire and a simple modification of the Roland-Morris questionnaire were used to assess back and leg related disability, respectivel

The value of schizophrenic inpatients' initial global assessments of treatment in the prediction of outcome was investigated. Within 3 days of admission, 31 patients with an acute paranoid schizophrenic psychosis according to ICD-10 rated on a visual analog scale to what extent they believed the treatment they were receiving was right for them. Outcome criteria were overall clinical changes measured on the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale and the Intentionality Scale. The patients' initial global assessments of treatment were significantly correlated to both outcome criteria, indicating that pat

BACKGROUND: There are many shoulder assessment outcome measures in the literature that have been studied for validity and reliability. However, there is no study examining the Turkish-adapted patient outcome measures (PROMs) on the shoulder according to the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) checklist. In addition, there is a small number of studies that carry out this examination on the shoulder internationally. Determining the most appropriate questionnaires for clinical use will also be an important guide in patient evaluation by filling t

BACKGROUND: The experience sampling method (ESM) holds advantages over traditional retrospective questionnaires including a high ecological validity, no recall bias, the ability to assess fluctuation of symptoms, and the ability to analyze the temporal relationship between variables.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of an endometriosis-specific ESM tool.
METHODS: This is a short-term follow-up prospective study, including patients with premenopausal endometriosis aged ≥18 years who reported dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, or dyspareunia between December

INTRODUCTION: Qualitative research on patient experiences in early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD) is limited. It is increasingly acknowledged that clinical outcome assessments used in trials do not fully capture the range of symptoms/impacts that are meaningful to people with early-stage PD. We aimed to conceptualize the patient experience in early-stage PD and identify, from the patient perspective, those cardinal symptoms/impacts which might be more useful to measure in clinical trials.
METHODS: In a mixed-methods analysis, 50 people with early-stage PD and nine relatives were interviewed.

OBJECTIVE: Optimal management of pediatric Chiari malformation type I (CM-I) is much debated, chiefly due to the lack of validated tools for outcome assessment, with very few tools incorporating patient-centered measures of health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Although posterior fossa decompression (PFD) benefits a subset of patients, prediction of its impact across patients is challenging. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the role of patient-centered HRQOL measures in the assessment and prediction of outcomes after PFD.
METHODS: The authors collected HRQOL data from a coho

PURPOSE: Acetabular chondral lesions are common in patients with FAI. For large full-thickness cartilage defects, arthroscopic matrix-associated autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) using an injectable in situ crosslinking product is an option. Aim of the study was to evaluate clinical and MRI results 12 months after MACT of acetabular cartilage defects in FAI patients.
METHODS: We report data on 21 patients with a focal cartilage defect of the hip [2.97 ± 1.44 cm2 (mean ± SD)] caused by FAI treated with an arthroscopically conducted MACT combined with FAI surgery. The results were a

Orbital hypertelorism (OHT) can be corrected surgically utilizing a 4-wall box osteotomy, facial bipartition, or medial orbital composite unit translocation (MOCUT). However, the impact on periorbital symmetry and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) is less well known. This study assesses periorbital symmetry and PROs after OHT correction at long-term follow-up. Patients who underwent OHT correction at a single institution from 2000 to 2024 were identified. Hypertelorism index (HI) and periorbital symmetry was compared preoperatively, 1-year postoperatively, and at long-term follow-up (average 9

TOPIC: To identify patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) that have been used in children and adolescents with glaucoma and to evaluate their methodologic quality.
CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Childhood glaucoma impairs vision and quality of life (QoL) throughout all stages of life. Thus, a PROM needs to cover many different age groups and topics. Various instruments have been used to evaluate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in patients with childhood glaucoma, however, it is unclear which PROM has the highest methodologic quality and complies best with the needs of patients with childhood glaucom
