Despite the important role of peers in the social process of classroom citizenship, the peer influence related to moral disengagement, social goals, and a sense of peer community remain unclear. To this end, it was examined to what extent youth become similar to their friends in moral disengagement, social goals, and a sense of peer community. Participants were 283 South Korean third to sixth graders (Mage = 9.60 years, SD = 0.97; 51.6% girls) who completed an online survey for moral disengagement, social goals, the sense of peer community and friendship network across the beginning (Time 1) a

BACKGROUND: Adolescents with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) or Borderline Intellectual Functioning (BIF) are highly susceptible to negative peer influence. However, research in typically developing adolescents shows that peers can also promote prosocial behavior, which is an opportunity for positive development.
AIMS: The current study aimed to investigate the effect of peer influence on prosocial behavior in adolescents with MID or BIF.
METHODS AND PROCEDURES: In an experimental donation task, 40 adolescents with MID or BIF (Mage = 14.0, 40 % boys) were repeatedly asked how many of five

BACKGROUND: There is relatively limited psychological support dedicated to people living with long-term physical health conditions and subthreshold depressive disorder. Online peer support may be an appropriate intervention to help bolster patients' mental well-being to prevent progression of their symptoms to major depressive disorder. For interventions to be successfully integrated into the self-management routines of people with long-term physical health conditions, they should be co-designed to ensure that they align with the wants and needs of the target audience.
OBJECTIVE: This study a

Belonging to a community is essential for wellbeing, but potentially unattainable for those dissimilar from a group. In the present work, we ask whether belongingness is better predicted by acting and thinking like peers or believing you act and think like peers. Students (N = 1181) reported their belonging and how much they, their friends, and an "average student" endorsed local behavioral norms and general values. We calculated difference scores for behaviors and values capturing perceived similarity to the average, actual similarity to the average, and accuracy around the norm. Key results

BACKGROUND: Online peer support can help people living with long-term physical health conditions to manage their mental well-being. Although the potential negative events that can occur and risks associated with web-based peer communities are well recognized, our understanding of how best to moderate these spaces is relatively limited, particularly with regard to new communities. Previous work has focused on the experiences of either moderators or community members.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the perspectives of both members and moderators of a new online peer support community to

Medical imaging represents the primary tool for investigating and monitoring several diseases, including cancer. The advances in quantitative image analysis have developed towards the extraction of biomarkers able to support clinical decisions. To produce robust results, multi-center studies are often set up. However, the imaging information must be denoised from confounding factors-known as batch-effect-like scanner-specific and center-specific influences. Moreover, in non-solid cancers, like lymphomas, effective biomarkers require an imaging-based representation of the disease that accounts

PURPOSE: Adolescence is a formative period marked by exploration, identity formation, and a growing need for belonging. Co-creative performing arts practices may support learning and relationship-building across diverse groups of young people. This study explored how adolescents without disabilities, enrolled in mainstream educational programmes, experienced and reflected on their participation in a long-term, inclusive, co-creative performing arts project (SPOR).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A qualitative inductive design with three focus groups was used, grounded in phenomenological, hermeneutic,

BACKGROUND: Online peer support groups offer virtual spaces where members can share experiences, seek advice, and offer mutual support. While in-person peer support in pregnancy has shown benefits such as improved well-being and reduced isolation, limited research has explored online peer support groups. This scoping review aims to examine the types, contexts, and perceived benefits of online peer support for pregnant people.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in five databases (Embase, Medline PsychInfo, MIDIRS and CINAHL) from inception to December 2024. Eligible studies examined on

Recovery Colleges (RCs) are increasingly implemented worldwide, with a fidelity measure recently developed in the United Kingdom (UK). However, RCs may vary based on their operating contexts. In the Netherlands, a key deviation is that RCs are often peer-run rather than co-produced with mental healthcare providers, as outlined in the fidelity measure. This study assessed the measure's suitability in the Dutch context, leading to the development of a reflection tool (Phase 1) which was subsequently evaluated (Phase 2). The development phase involved focus groups with peer facilitators and coord

INTRODUCTION: Peer simulation is a method of simulation-based education (SBE) whereby students are educated to portray patient roles for peers. This potentially delivers accessible, high-impact, low-cost SBE that could be utilised in lower resourced settings. However, the most effective method of educating students to portray patient roles is currently not known. This study aimed to determine if the method of education for patient portrayal impacts portrayal accuracy, empathy development, and academic performance. Students' perspectives of education approaches were explored.
METHODS: A semest

People form relationships with people from their own racial groups, a phenomenon called racial homophily, which reduces interracial contact and exacerbates inequality and prejudice. Although viewed as arising from environmental factors, we argue that racial homophily also involves individual choice and, thus, personality factors. We address three major issues. First, are interpersonal concerns (Agreeableness) and intergroup concerns (Openness) differentially relevant to cross-race friendships? Second, are current conceptions of Openness sufficient, or do we need lower-level facets more attuned

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review presents evidence on support group effectiveness in common diseases, research on support groups in systemic sclerosis (SSc), and work underway by the Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network in collaboration with patient organizations to train SSc support group leaders in order to improve support group access and the experiences of support groups for members and leaders.
RECENT FINDINGS: Giving and receiving emotional and practical support from others with SSc is an important reason that individuals with SSc attend support groups, but many patients cann

OBJECTIVE: Support groups can help to reach individuals with anxiety disorders who are not or are only partly obtaining health services. The present study is based on a program that involves peer helpers as animators of a self-treatment group (Zéro-ATAQ). Their perspective has been documented in order to identify the aspects of the program which can be improved.
METHODS: Eleven peer helpers led the 12 sessions of the program, which was dispensed in four regions of Quebec for 32 persons having panic disorders with agoraphobia. The perspectives of ten peer animators were documented based on a s

OBJECTIVE: Adolescents are typically motivated to conform to peer influence, including substance use behaviors, and it is likely that adolescents who deviate from their peers' substance use behaviors might experience stress and anxiety.
METHOD: A mixed-methods approach was utilized to examine the relationship between peer e-cigarette and cannabis use and symptoms of generalized anxiety among a diverse sample of 12th grade students in Los Angeles County, California, USA (N = 1,867, Mage = 17.04, SD = 0.43). Multivariable logistic regression models examined the associations between peer substan

Internal promotion is a common pathway into academic nursing leadership, with program directors, department chairs, associate deans, and deans frequently appointed from existing faculty ranks. While this practice offers institutional continuity and organizational familiarity, it introduces a transition challenge that remains underexplored in the nursing education literature: the negotiation of positional authority among individuals who were, until recently, collegial peers. This article examines the peer-to-leader transition in academic nursing through the lenses of role theory, Meleis' Transi

Mandible fractures are relatively uncommon despite the mandible being the most commonly fractured facial bone in the paediatric population. The aetiology of mandible fractures can be categorized as intentional (e.g. as a result of assault, peer-to-peer violence, family violence) or non-intentional (e.g. as a result of falls, motor vehicle crashes, sporting incidents). Peer-to-peer violence affects up to a third of male school aged children in Australia. This case report details the case of a paediatric patient with bilateral mandibular fractures who presented to a general dental practice after

Purpose College students with concussion are often ill-equipped to manage their health and learning needs, and college campuses are slow to react. We present the development of a peer mentoring program for college students with concussion: Success in College after Concussion with Effective Student Supports (SUCCESS), focusing on the process by which student needs and preferences drove development of the program for testing. Method Principles of person-centered design were used to guide program development, engaging stakeholders at each stage of development and resulting in the intervention pac
