Spinal lymphoma and pulmonary filariasis in a pet domestic rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus).

Spinal lymphoma and concurrent pulmonary filariasis are reported in a pet rabbit. The rabbit presented for pelvic limb paralysis resulting from extradural spinal lymphoma, presumably rising from the body of the sixth lumbar vertebra. The neoplasm was subsequently immunophenotyped as a B-cell lymphoma. Pulmonary filariasis was an incidental finding at necropsy.

Peritoneal angiosarcoma in a patient with a history of cervical cancer treated with radiotherapy: A case report.

Angiosarcoma is a highly malignant endothelial neoplasm that accounts for 1-2% of all soft tissue sarcomas in humans, and its marked biological aggressiveness constitutes a major clinical challenge. Early identification is particularly difficult in patients with a history of malignancies treated with radiotherapy, due to its histopathological heterogeneity and nonspecific clinical presentation, which often leads to confusion with other mesenchymal or epithelial neoplasms. We report the case of a 72-year-old woman with a history of cervical carcinoma treated with radiotherapy who presented with

Schwannoma extending from the umbilical region to the mid-thigh, compressing the major vessels of the right leg: A case report and review of the literature.

Schwannomas are benign, usually encapsulated, nerve sheath tumours derived from Schwann cells. They commonly arise from the cranial nerves as acoustic schwannomas and are extremely rare in the pelvis and retroperitoneal area (<0.5% of reported cases) unless they are combined with Von Recklinghausen disease (type 1 neurofibromatosis). We report the case of a 23-year-old woman with a mass extending from the umbilical region in the abdomen to the upper two-thirds of the thigh. As this tumour is so rare, and in order to ensure optimal treatment and survival for our patient, a computed tomograph

[Radiation-induced intestinal injury].

This article addresses theoretical and clinical aspects of radiation-induced intestinal injuries, which complicate radiation therapy for malignant neoplasms of the abdominal and pelvic organs. Many clinical aspects of this issue remain unknown due to the lack of awareness among doctors and patients. Further study of radiation-induced intestinal injuries and the development of personalized approaches to their prevention and treatment represent a relevant direction in internal medicine.

[Metastatic penile tumors: report of three cases].

Metastatic tumor of the penis is uncommon in spite of its rich blood supply, abundant vascular space and the proximity of the pelvic organs which have a high incidence of malignant neoplasms. We report three cases of metastatic penile tumors. The primary sites of these cases were the left ureter, the right kidney and the rectum. We review and discuss sixty two cases collected from the Japanese literature, including our cases.

Low-Grade Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma Diagnosed 8 Years After Hysterectomy With Morcellation.

BACKGROUND: Morcellation at the time of minimally invasive hysterectomy or myomectomy for presumed benign indications carries a risk of disseminating undiagnosed uterine malignancies. CASE: A 57-year-old woman with a remote history of laparoscopic hysterectomy with morcellation of a cellular leiomyoma presented with a newly diagnosed complex pelvic mass. Owing to adherence of the mass to the rectum and numerous peritoneal tumor implants, a surgical cytoreductive procedure was performed. The pelvic mass, implants, and original hysterectomy specimen were histologically identical and consistent

Diffuse intra-abdominal fibromatosis in association with bilateral ovarian fibromatosis and oedema.

A case of bilateral ovarian enlargement secondary to massive ovarian oedema with underlying intra-abdominal and pelvic fibromatosis is presented. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and hysterectomy led to rapid progression of the intra-abdominal and pelvic fibromatosis, which was previously unsuspected. The case highlights the importance of recognizing massive oedema of the ovary as a distinct entity as it is a benign condition affecting young females and can be confused with ovarian neoplasm. In this case, the major morbidity was from the underlying diffuse intra-abdominal fibromatosis. Conserva

Squamous cell carcinoma of the neovagina 47 years after gender-affirming surgery.

A 74-year-old transgender female presented with urinary difficulty and a painful lesion at her neo-vagina, 47 years after undergoing gender-affirming vaginoplasty. Initial biopsy reported Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (LGSIL), while MRI revealed no inguinal or pelvic lymphadenopathy. Patient underwent partial neo-vaginectomy with wide local excision and formal urethroplasty. Pathology revealed verrucous carcinoma of the neovagina, a rare neoplasm in transgender female patients. This case highlights the importance of considering squamous cell carcinoma in the differential diagnosis

Secondary Hyperparathyroidism With "Superscan-Like" Hypermetabolic FDG PET/CT Pattern.

A 26-year-old man with chronic terminal renal insufficiency under dialysis was referred in our institution for a checkup before kidney transplantation to ensure the absence of malignant neoplasm. The patient had a biological secondary hyperparathyroidism with highly elevated serum parathormon, and treatment with parathyroid surgery was planned before the kidney transplant. Whole-body FDG PET/CT showed no apparent malignant neoplasm, but increased metabolism of the 4 parathyroid gland and the other pitfalls of advanced secondary hyperparathyroidism on chronic renal insufficiency: pseudotumoral

Extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma mimicking mucinous ovarian cancer: A case report.

Pelvic masses can represent various etiologies, including gynecologic and non-gynecologic conditions. As discussed in this paper, among all pathologies, intraabdominal dissemination of an extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (ESMC) presenting as a pelvic mass is a rare condition. The case is a 58-year-old woman with a history of soft tissue sarcoma who presented to the gynecologic oncology department with a pelvic mass and was operated on with the suspicion of mucinous ovarian cancer. She underwent complete cytoreductive surgery, and her final pathology was reported as ESMC. Due to several numb

Coexistence of borderline ovarian epithelial tumor, primary pelvic hydatid cyst, and lymphoepithelioma-like gastric carcinoma.

OBJECTIVES: Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) represent a heterogeneous group of ovarian epithelial neoplasms. Despite a favorable prognosis, 10-20% of BOTs exhibit progressively worsening clinic. Primary involvement of pelvic organs with echinococcus is very rare. Lymphoepithelioma-like gastric carcinoma is a rare neoplasm of the stomach. CASE REPORT: A 58-year-old woman referred with abdominal swelling and gastric complaints. Imaging studies revealed a huge cystic mass with multiple septations and solid component, another cystic mass with an appearance of cyst hydatid in the pelvis, and thic

Imaging Diagnosis of Perianal Leiomyoma: A Case Report.

A leiomyoma is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm that usually develops where smooth muscle is present. In this report, we present the case of a 75-year-old woman who sought medical attention due to pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, and without defecatory symptoms. Both pelvic floor ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination showed a well-defined mass in the ischioanal fossa, eventually diagnosed as a perianal leiomyoma. It is considered a rare entity because of its location involving the anal sphincter and clinical features. We describe the ultrasonographic and MRI f

Localized neurofibromatosis of the female genital system: a case report and review of the literature.

Neurofibromatosis within the female genital tract is uncommon. The vulva is the most frequent genital location, but it has rarely been reported in the context of the vagina, uterine cervix or ovaries. In spite of its rarity, neurofibroma is a neoplasm that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pelvic masses, especially in patients with neurofibromatosis. In this paper we describe the case of a 71-year-old patient with pelvic pain and a uterine mass who underwent a hysterectomy after having been diagnosed with an 11-cm neurofibroma occupying the myometrium of the entire uterine

Metastatic eccrine porocarcinoma detected on FDG PET/CT.

Eccrine porocarcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm of the sweat gland duct and poses a significant risk of cutaneous, regional lymph node, or visceral metastases. A 62-year-old woman with a history of eccrine porocarcinoma in the left flank area underwent an F-18 FDG PET/CT scan, which revealed increased FDG uptake in left pelvic (SUV 6.34) and left axillary regions (SUV 4.02). Wide excision of left axillary and left pelvic lymph nodes was performed, and histopathologic findings were consistent with eccrine porocarcinoma. PET/CT detects metastases accurately and is helpful in the management of pati

Multifocal retroperitoneal and pelvic PEComas mimicking liposarcoma: A case report and review of literature.

Perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms (PEComa) constitute a rare, but increasingly recognized family of seemingly distinct mesenchymal tumors which can occur in any part of the body. Due to their rarity, radiological descriptions of PEComas in the current literature are few and non-specific, making diagnosis difficult, though some common imaging features have been reported. We present an unusual case of multifocal retroperitoneal and pelvic PEComas, mimicking liposarcoma, subsequently treated with open surgery.

Ectopic production of the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotrophin by malignant ovarian neoplasms.

A sensitive and specific radio-immunoassay for the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotrophin (beta-HCG) was performed on serum samples from 18 patients with large pelvic masses. No beta-HCG was detectable in 8 patients with either benign ovarian tumours or non-ovarian masses Ten patients had a malignant ovarian neoplasm, and 6 of these (60%) had raised beta-HCG levels. Cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary was the commonest malignant tumour (6/10) and the beta-HCG level was raised in 4 patients (66.6%) with this tumor. Serum beta-HCG values therefore appear to be useful in the management of ovar

Retroperitoneal and Pelvic Myeloid Sarcoma in a Patient With JAK2-Positive Polycythemia Vera: A Case Report.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary tumor composed of immature myeloid cells that may occur in association with acute myeloid leukemia or other myeloid neoplasms. We report a 75-year-old woman with JAK2-positive polycythemia vera who presented with abdominal pain, distension, and anorexia. Imaging revealed a large retroperitoneal and pelvic mass causing hydronephrosis. Biopsy demonstrated immature mononuclear cells positive for CD33, CD43, CD117, CD68, and CD163, consistent with MS with monocytic differentiation. Other malignancies were excluded, and flow cytometry was non-diagnostic

Ovarian neoplasms - the role of minimally invasive surgery.

The role of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for ovarian neoplasms in paediatric patients depends on multiple factors. First, it is important to consider the risk of malignancy, which can be difficult to assess, especially in the setting of torsion. Second, when possible ovarian sparing surgery (OSS) should be performed. In certain settings MIS to perform OSS may carry a higher risk of tumour or cyst spillage. MIS can also play a role in diagnosis, via staging or biopsy. When performed, MIS can offer improved visualization of the contralateral ovary and other abdominal structures. Overall, MIS
