BACKGROUND: Many adults aged 60 years or older have functional limitations and require home and community-based services (HCBS) to support their independence and delay the transition to an institutionalized setting. This systematic review provides an evidence map of the existing literature on HCBS identifying evidence gaps for policy and research.
METHODS: A comprehensive literature search of multiple databases including Medline, Embase, and Scopus was conducted through December 7, 2023. Interviews with various stakeholders were conducted to solicit additional perspectives. Narrative and them

INTRODUCTION: In numerous qualitative primary studies, women have identified opportunities to improve prenatal gestational diabetes care. The objective of our systematic review and meta-aggregation was to synthesize patient-guided suggestions for improving prenatal gestational diabetes care that are informed by lived experience of women and their support persons.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was registered a priori on PROSPERO (CRD42023394014). Our search strategy was executed in five databases (Medline, PsycInfo, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science). Primary studies that were qualitative,

OBJECTIVES: Facing numerous barriers to care, most individuals experiencing symptoms of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders do not receive evidence-based treatment. While much existing literature has identified barriers to mental health treatment broadly, little empirical work has assessed barriers specifically within a sample of individuals with obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, whose identified barriers and treatment preferences may differ from other clinical samples. In particular, this information is lacking for pediatric samples.
METHODS: The current study examined treat

Biological networks are known to be highly modular, and the dysfunction of network modules may cause diseases. Defining the key modules from the omics data and establishing the classification model is helpful in promoting the research of disease diagnosis and prognosis. However, for applying modules in downstream analysis such as disease states discrimination, most methods only utilize the node information, and ignore the node interactions or topological information, which may lead to false positives and limit the model performance. In this study, we propose an omics data analysis method based

This article uses a life history approach to explore personal experiences of dyslexia of one higher-education lecturer and its impact on her professional identity. The informant is currently employed as a lecturer of initial teacher training in a UK university. She worked as a primary school teacher for over a decade prior to embarking on an academic career in teacher education. The informant draws on her own experiences as a pupil, teacher and lecturer, and additionally, she presents accounts of student teachers with dyslexia drawn from her current professional context. Although the data are

OBJECTIVE: With age, older adults experience a greater number of chronic diseases and medical visits, and an increased need to manage their health information. Technological advances in consumer health information technologies (HITs) help patients gather, track, and organize their health information within and outside of clinical settings. However, HITs have not focused on the needs of older adults and their caregivers. The goal of the SOARING (Studying Older Adults and Researching their Information Needs and Goals) Project was to understand older adult personal health information management (

This paper presents a novel real-time smart system performing fall detection, location, and notification based on floor vibration data produced by fall downs. Only using floor vibration as the recognition source, the system incorporates a person identification through vibration produced by footsteps to inform who is the fallen person. Our approach operates in a real-time style, which means the system recognizes a fall immediately and can identify a person with only one or two footsteps. A collaborative in-network location method is used in which sensors collaborate with each other to recognize

A migraine is more than head pain, and chronic migraine can dramatically impact a person and those around her/him/them. To better understand those effects it is important to study the experiences of persons with migraine and their caregivers, family, friends, and health and mental health providers. When they collaborate, stakeholders may improve outcomes for persons with chronic migraine. One type of stakeholder cooperation is Health Co-Inquiry, involving a person-centered approach, activation of persons toward collaboration and improved health, evidence-based practice, and integrated care. This qualitative study employed indepth, semistructured audiotaped interviews with seven people with motor neurone disease (MND) to explore their desire for information about MND and their experiences in seeking and obtaining such information. Factors affecting their information-seeking behaviour were identified through a process of interpretative phenomenological analysis. Three distinct information-seeking categories emerged. Active seekers personally acquired information from a variety of sources. Selective seekers had access to information but often relied on 'buffers' to filter out unsuit

To build a system for monitoring elderly people living alone, an important step needs to be done: identifying the presence/absence of the person being monitored and his location. Such task has several applications that we discuss in this paper, and remains very important. Several techniques were proposed in the literature. However, most of them suffer from issues related to privacy, coverage or convenience. In the current paper, we propose an infrared array sensor-based approach to detect the presence/absence of a person in a room. We used a wide angle low resolution sensor (i.e., 32×24 pixels

OBJECTIVES: To summarize recent information about the "new" gastrointestinal protozoal pathogens (cryptosporidia, microsporidia, isospora, and cyclospora) and to help practicing clinicians integrate this information into their clinical databases by emphasizing the similarities among these organisms.
DATA SOURCES: Relevant English-language articles published between 1988 and 1995 were identified through a MEDLINE search done using the names of the intestinal spore-forming protozoa. Articles cited in the bibliographies of these and other articles were searched manually.

BACKGROUND: Radiological screening for intracranial aneurysms (IAs) may identify other relevant intracranial findings. We investigated their prevalence on MR in persons screened for IAs.
METHODS: We included all persons who were screened for the presence of IAs with brain MRI/MRA between 1996 and 2022 because of a family history of aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) or autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We reviewed radiology reports of initial and repeated brain MR to identify additional intracranial findings that needed follow-up or treatment, or carried a risk of

BACKGROUND: This study used qualitative methods to test and refine a framework for educating cognitively unimpaired individuals about their individual risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and intrapersonal health belief factors as part of the TEACH (Tailored Education for Aging and Cognitive Health) intervention.
METHOD: We assessed individuals' ADRD risk factors and health belief concepts. Personalized data were presented individually, followed by a semi-structured phenomenographic interview. Applied thematic analysis was used to identify representative statements, trend

Despite its seeming breadth and diversity, the bulk of the personal (mental health) recovery literature has remained strangely 'silent' about the impact of various socio-structural inequalities on the recovery process. Such an inadequacy of the empirical literature is not without consequences since the systematic omission or downplaying, at best, of the socio-structural conditions of living for persons with lived experience of mental health difficulties may inadvertently reinforce a reductionist view of recovery as an atomised, individualised phenomenon. Motivated by those limitations in extan

INTRODUCTION: Cluster headache (CH) is usually comorbid to mood spectrum disorders, but the psychopathological aspects are poorly explored. We aimed at identifying discrete profiles of personality traits and their association with clinical features.
METHODS: Based on the personality scales of the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III, principal component analysis (PCA) identified psychological patterns of functioning of 56 CH patients. PCA outcomes were used for hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) for sub-groups classification.
RESULTS: Eighty-seven percent of patients had personality dys

INTRODUCTION: Although state, federal, and professional guidelines stipulate the need for informed consent for toxicology testing during pregnancy, consent is often inadequately obtained. The objective of this study was to explore birthing person and obstetric clinician experiences with consent for toxicology testing during pregnancy.
METHODS: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 25 obstetric clinicians and 15 birthing persons who had toxicology testing performed during their delivery hospitalization. Interviews assessed clinical decision-making around toxicology testing

BACKGROUND: Atypical response behavior on depression questionnaires may invalidate depression severity measurements. This study aimed to identify and investigate atypical profiles of depressive symptoms using a data-driven approach based on the item response theory (IRT).
METHODS: A large cohort of participants completed the Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology self-report (IDS-SR) at baseline (n=2329) and two-year follow-up (n=1971). Person-fit statistics were used to quantify how strongly each patient׳s observed symptom profile deviated from the expected profile given the group-based IRT

Neuroticism is a personality trait associated with negative mood states, sensitivity to negative information, negative appraisal and vulnerability to psychopathology. Previous studies have associated the sustained processing of negative information (words) with individual differences such as rumination and depression but not with personality. In the current study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between neuroticism and changes in sustained patterns of activity within a brain region implicated in emotional self-evaluation and appraisal, the Medial Prefrontal Cortex (MedPFC), when respo

Personality factors may interact with development and expressions of panic disorder (PD). This study sought to identify differences in personality traits between patients with PD and healthy individuals and explore the relationships between personality domains and various demographic and clinical variables of PD. Personality traits were evaluated in 193 patients and 314 matched healthy subjects using the Swedish universities Scales of Personality (SSP). All SSP traits, except for detachment and physical trait aggression, were significantly deviated in PD group, as compared to healthy subjects.

From 1 June 1981 through 31 January 1984, 201 cases of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome were reported involving persons who could not be classified into a group identified to be at increased risk for this syndrome. Thirty-five had received transfusions of single-donor blood components in the 5 years preceding diagnosis of the syndrome and 30 were sexual partners of persons belonging to a high-risk group. Information was incomplete for most remaining patients, but because many of these patients were demographically similar to populations recognized to be at increased risk for the syndrome
