Urinary Incontinence in Women Athletes: Umbrella Review and Meta-analysis of Sport-Related Factors.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence is frequently reported in women athletes, yet prevalence estimates vary widely and are commonly interpreted using broad sport classifications that may not capture pelvic floor loading. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to synthesise evidence on urinary incontinence prevalence in adult women athletes and examine whether commonly used sport classifications or reported training exposure explain between-cohort variability. METHODS: Five databases were searched (January 2010-September 2025) for systematic reviews reporting urinary incontinence prevalence in women athletes to co

Paralympic Training: Sports Performance and Training Methods.

To become a Paralympian and sustain that level, effective training is particularly important. Training extends further than just improving one's physical abilities through strength and conditioning. Training the mind, improving biomechanics, recovery, and using technology all aid in improving the athlete's overall performance. This article focuses on summarizing the current research regarding adaptive athletes while extrapolating from the able-bodied research when research is limited.

UCI Sports Nutrition Project: Competition and Training Demands, Physical Characteristics, and Nutritional Strategies for Performance in Bicycle Motorcross Race.

Bicycle motorcross racing is a unique sprint cycling discipline that takes place on a 300- to 450-m outdoor track with an 8-m start hill. A single race is 30-40 s in duration, and athletes can compete in up to seven races per day. Athletes require highly specific physiological attributes to meet the training and competition demands, and successful riders can produce high peak power outputs and demonstrate technical and tactical superiority over their opponents. Nutrition has a key role in optimizing athlete health, training adaptations, and overall athlete performance. This review will focus o

Hamstring Injury Mechanisms and Eccentric Training-Induced Muscle Adaptations: Current Insights and Future Directions.

Hamstring injuries are a major concern in sports owing to their high incidence and recurrence rates, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of their mechanisms and prevention. This narrative review aims to inform hamstring injury prevention strategies by examining: (1) the causes of hamstring injuries, (2) the effectiveness of eccentric training in reducing injury risk, and (3) muscle adaptations from eccentric training that may offer protective effects. Hamstring injuries often occur during the late swing phase of running, potentially due to insufficient or delayed neural activation

Consecutive days of exercise decrease insulin response more than a single exercise session in healthy, inactive men.

PURPOSE: It is reported that a single bout of exercise can lower insulin responses 12-24 h post-exercise; however, the insulin responses to alternate or consecutive bouts of exercise is unknown. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of exercise pattern on post-exercise insulin and glucose responses following a glucose challenge. METHODS: Ten male participants (n = 10, mean ± SD, Age 29.5 ± 7.7 years; BMI 25.7 ± 3.0 kg/m2) completed three exercise trials of walking for 60 min at ~ 70% of VO2max. The trials consisted of: three consecutive exercise days (3CON), three alternat

Cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation in the elderly: evidence for cardiac rehabilitation after myocardial infarction or chronic heart failure.

Cardiac rehabilitation in the elderly today often represents a utopia. The international scientific literature takes little into account this type of prescription for old people, although they represent a large and growing proportion of cardiac patients, with acute coronary syndrome or heart failure, which we have to manage in everyday life. Furthermore, interventions of health education, clinical follow up, rehospitalisation prevention and prescription of tailored exercise, are sometimes more necessary in this kind of patients, given the presence of multimorbidity, functional dependence, frai

Report of a recurrent cerebral venous thrombosis in a young athlete.

BACKGROUND: Reports of occurrence of deep vein thrombosis during intensive sport are scarce. While a few cases have been described in the cerebral territory, these are only in the context of traumatism or anabolic agent consumption. Thus, causality with exercise remains uncertain and the mechanisms hypothetic. We present the case of a young athlete who experienced two episodes of severe cerebral venous thromboses (CVT), both during intensive training, in the absence of any other known thrombogenic factor. CASE PRESENTATION: A healthy 26-year-old man presented a thrombosis of the superior sagi

Endurance exercise elicits a hepatic memory associated with improved metabolic function and protein secretion.

Endurance exercise protects against metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), yet whether these effects persist following cessation of training remains unclear. Here, we employed endurance training cycles in mice to isolate the hepatic memory of exercise. Our results indicate that endurance retraining potentiates systemic and hepatic glucoregulatory benefits. Exercise retraining persistently reduced hepatic steatosis, hallmarked by decreases in diacylglycerols and increased phosphatidylcholines (PC). Liver transcriptomic analysis identified lipid and protein secretory p

Effect of pyruvate and dihydroxyacetone on metabolism and aerobic endurance capacity.

Pyruvate and dihydroxyacetone are three carbon compounds that when infused directly into the blood or taken orally produce strong metabolic effects. When chronically fed to animals as part of their diet, pyruvate plus dihydroxyacetone reduce the rate of weight gain and body fat content during growth. These alterations in growth pattern appear to be the result of an increased loss of calories as heat at the expense of storage of lipid. Pyruvate-dihydroxyacetone supplementation has also been found to improve the insulin sensitivity of insulin resistant rats and reduce plasma cholesterol levels i

Analysis of The Differences Between Training Matches and International Competitions for Elite Chinese U15 Female Table Tennis Players.

Although differences between training and competitive contexts in table tennis are widely recognized, empirical evidence quantifying these differences remains limited. This study compared the technical-tactical characteristics of 40 training matches and 40 international competitions among Chinese National Youth Team U15 female players to provide evidence for training optimization. A mixed-method approach combining heat map visualization and Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) was used to examine contextual differences and identify key factors associated with match-winning probability. Does the Intent Match the Output: Aligning Development Goals With Training Load in Youth Basketball.

This study investigated the alignment between external training load metrics and coach-prescribed development goals in an elite youth basketball setting. External training load data from training drills were collected over two years from 25 elite male youth basketball players in a full-time residential academy. At the start of each term, coaches developed and assigned individual developmental goals (IDGs) for each player. Using inductive thematic analysis, these IDGs were retrospectively grouped into four overarching development goal categories (defensive, offensive, skill, and physical) and 1

Posterior Shoulder Dislocation During Morning PT: A Case Report.

Posterior shoulder dislocation should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute shoulder pain and immobility following trauma. Although far less common then the anterior dislocation, it is associated with high rates of comorbidity. Seventy-nine percent of posterior shoulder dislocations are missed on initial presentation, which is partially responsible for the high rate of comorbidity associated with these injuries. The mechanism of injury is varied from generalized seizure to minor trauma, which adds to the complexity of the diagnosis. There is a well-documented "vulnerable positio

Specific Modulation of Vertebral Marrow Adipose Tissue by Physical Activity.

Marrow adipose tissue (MAT) accumulation with normal aging impacts the bone, hemopoiesis, and metabolic pathways. We investigated whether exercise was associated with lower MAT, as measured by vertebral marrow fat fraction (VFF) on magnetic resonance imaging. A total of 101 healthy individuals (54 females) aged 25 to 35 years without spine or bone disease but with distinct exercise histories were studied. Long-distance runners (67 km/wk, n = 25) exhibited lower mean lumbar VFF (27.9% [8.6%] versus 33.5% [6.0%]; p = 0.0048) than non-sporting referents (n = 24). In habitual joggers (28 km/wk, n

The role of physical exercise on hippocampal volume in depressive symptoms: a systematic review and multi-level meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Hippocampal atrophy is a commonly observed structural impairment in depressive disorders. Conversely, physical exercise has demonstrated potential benefits for increasing hippocampal volume. Consequently, both animal and human studies have explored the effect of exercise on hippocampal volume in the context of depressive symptoms, although their findings have been inconsistent. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate whether exercise reduces hippocampal decline in animal and human depression models and identify optimal exercise parameters for this potent
