The aim of this study is to describe thoracic radiodermatitis, a rare but not to be forgotten complication of interventional cardiology. The appearances are variable, from often oval-shaped erythema to cutaneous necrosis, with risk of chronic ulceration and malignant degeneration. The authors report 6 cases observed in 1997 after coronary angioplasty. Complex and long procedures are the main causes of this complication. Prevention requires a contribution from all the medical cardiological team, for the diagnosis, determining the indication of the type of revascularisation and for limiting the …

OBJECTIVES: to develop and validate a questionnaire on clinical practices developed by radiotherapy nurses in the process of caring for people at risk of or with radiodermatitis.
METHODS: methodological study, containing: establishment of the conceptual framework; definition of objectives and target population; development of items and responses; selection and organization of items; structuring of the questionnaire; content validation using the Content Validity Index; pre-testing in the target population. Data collection was performed via the Research Electronic Data Capture platform.

Although combination therapy for keloid including postoperative radiation therapy (RT) is common, the radiation toxicity of RT in a patient with a history of collagen vascular disease has not been fully recognized. We experienced a case of an acute radiodermatitis in a patient with keloid. This patient had a chest keloid because of the bypass surgery for Takayasu's arteritis. After we performed an excision and postoperative RT, severe radiodermatitis occurred. We speculate that the higher single dose and the use of electron beams may be related to the onset of severe acute radiodermatitis in t…

BACKGROUND: Radiation therapy can cause acute and chronic damage of the skin.
OBJECTIVE: A 71-year-old woman presented with an atrophic and sclerotic plaque at a site previously treated with radiotherapy because of lung cancer. Inside the area affected by chronic radiodermatitis, she reported that a preexisting pigmentary lesion had gradually undergone morphologic changes after radiation therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: On dermoscopy, the lesion showed features highly suspicious for malignant melanoma. The lesion was excised and examined histopathologically.
RESULTS: The histopathologic diag…

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence, dose of occurrence, grade, severity, and associated risk factors for the development of radiodermatitis, by area of the irradiated breast, in women with breast cancer, during hypofractionated radiotherapy.
METHOD: Observational, prospective, and longitudinal study, according to the guidelines of the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology, carried out between May 2019 and May 2021.
RESULTS: A total of 104 women participated in the study, and 73.1% (95%CI: 64-82) developed signs of radiodermatitis during treatment. The majority…

Radiation-induced dermatitis (RID) is a common and painful complication of radiotherapy. When severe, radiation-associated pain (RAP) can reduce the efficacy of radiotherapy by limiting the radiation dose given, and/or necessitating breaks in treatment. Current RAP mitigation strategies are of limited efficacy. Our long-term goal is to develop a comparative oncology model, in which novel analgesic interventions for RAP can be evaluated. The aim of this study was to validate quantitative end points indicative of RAP in pet dogs with subclinical and low-grade RID. Extremity soft tissue sarcomas

Iridium-192 (Ir(192)) is a radioactive isotope which has high-penetration ability in humans. Due to occupational accidents, industrial radiography workers may be rarely exposed to high doses of ionizing radiation, and acute radiodermatitis may develop after the exposure. After an asymptomatic period which can last several months, poikiloderma, sclerosis, necrosis, and ulceration of the skin may be observed as typical clinical features of chronic radiodermatitis. Herein, we report the case of a 26-year-old man presented with ulceration and sclerosis on the second digit of the left hand and was …
