Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare, extramedullary tumor consisting of immature white blood cells of myeloid lineage. MS is usually associated with the concurrent diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) but can also present in the absence of bone marrow disease or at relapse of AML. MS of the gynecologic tract is exceedingly rare; however, it is hypothesized that it is likely more prevalent than previously understood given postmortem findings and persistence in preserved ovarian tissue. There is minimal literature surrounding MS and extramedullary relapse with no clear guidelines. This is a case

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma is a tumor of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells occurring in an extramedullary site. Myeloid sarcoma of female genital tract is very rare with no cases of vulvar location reported in English-language literature.
CASE: A 73-year-old female presented with an indurated mass encompassing her left labia majora and vulva. The mass was diagnosed as vulvar myeloid sarcoma. The patient's peripheral blood smear revealed Auer rods and other findings consistent with a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (M-2 type, FAB classification).
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowle

Cutaneous myeloid sarcoma is rarely present prior to the diagnosis of congenital acute myeloid leukemia (AML); the former is typically diagnosed with or after the leukemia. We report a 2-day-old male born with multiple cutaneous red to violaceous nodules. Histopathologic and immunohistochemistry findings from a skin nodule were suspicious for myeloid sarcoma. Bone marrow biopsy was initially negative for aberrant blasts; however, at age 4 months, AML with a KMT2A gene rearrangement was identified via bone marrow biopsy.

Myeloid sarcomas (MS) are solid manifestations of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and are commonly present in children. These tumors can arise in many tissues including bone, soft tissue, or skin, and are commonly seen in the orbit. As practically all MS will, if left untreated, eventually present as AML, early diagnosis and initiation of treatment are imperative. We highlighted a case of bilateral orbital MS in a pediatric patient that presented concurrently with AML and the steps taken to diagnose and initiate treatment. Our case highlights the potentially occult presentation of AML as well as

An 80-year-old female presented with a mass in the left upper eyelid margin that had developed during chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia. The mass was elastic, hard, and pinkish, with a relatively smooth surface but without madarosis. The histopathological findings corresponded to a myeloid sarcoma. No blast cells were shown in the peripheral blood at the time of biopsy, and she subsequently underwent an azacitidine injection regimen. The size of the eyelid tumor decreased 3 months after the biopsy, when the course of azacitidine injections was completed. However, acute myeloid leukemia r

Myeloid sarcoma manifesting in the testis is rare and may occur concomitantly with bone marrow disease or as a separate entity. We describe our experience with a 6-month-old boy who presented with painless scrotal swelling and was found to have bilateral testicular masses on ultrasonography. The patient underwent unilateral radical inguinal orchiectomy. Surgical pathology revealed myeloid sarcoma of the testicle. He developed peripheral blood involvement 1 week postoperatively. Bone marrow biopsy showed acute myeloid leukemia. He is in remission after 2 cycles of induction chemotherapy, local

Antibody-targeted chemotherapy is a promising approach in patients with hematological malignancies. In particular, gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO, formerly CMA-676), an anti-CD33 antibody linked to calicheamicin, has been approved for the treatment of elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in relapse. Nevertheless, no data are until now available concerning the possible efficacy of GO for myeloid sarcomas (MS). We treated with GO 24 AML patients, in 5 cases presenting with myeloid sarcomas of the skin or bones. The overall complete response rate was 21%. The median duration of response

BACKGROUND/AIMS: [corrected] To report two rare cases of orbital myeloid sarcoma in adults and discuss special features relevant to this entity.
METHODS: Complete ophthalmologic and systemic examinations followed by incisional biopsy and pathological examination.
RESULTS: Two cases of myeloid sarcoma with orbital involvement were identified. Both cases presented with a clinical picture and imaging which demonstrated infiltrative orbital masses. When combined with 8 previous reported cases, 8/10 demonstrated systemic AML involvement.
CONCLUSIONS: Orbital myeloid sarcoma is a rare entity in a

We report a 37-year-old male patient who had nonbilious vomiting, no passage of flatus, and recurring abdominal pain. This patient had de novo intestinal myeloid sarcoma (MS), a rare and chameleonic presentation of acute leukemia of myeloid origin. The initial diagnostic evaluation suggested Koch's abdomen, and surgical excision of the bowel was performed with a clinical suspicion of Koch's or lymphoma. However, following extensive evaluation, it was diagnosed as chloroma. The rarity of intestinal MS without a pre-existing hematolymphoid malignancy presents a substantial diagnostic challenge,

Myeloid sarcoma, a rare malignant tumor characterized by the invasion of extramedullary tissue by immature myeloid cells, commonly occurs concomitantly with acute myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, or myeloproliferative neoplasms. The rarity of myeloid sarcoma poses challenges for diagnosis and treatment. Currently, treatments for myeloid sarcoma remain controversial and primarily follow protocols for acute myeloid leukemia, such as chemotherapy utilizing multi-agent regimens, in addition to radiation therapy and/or surgery. The advancements in next-generation sequencing technology h

Myeloid sarcoma (MS), also termed 'chloroma' or 'granulocytic sarcoma', is a tumour mass consisting of myeloid blasts occurring at an anatomical site other than the bone marrow. MS occurs in up to 8% of patients with acute myeloid leukaemia. While MS typically involves the skin or lymph nodes, almost any tissue can be affected, and symptoms largely depend on the organ involved and subsequent mass effect. We present a case series of patients that presented to a tertiary hospital with MS affecting the central nervous system over a 4-month period. These three cases demonstrate the vast spectrum o

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a relatively rare manifestation of myeloid neoplasms at sites other than the bone marrow. The rarity of gastrointestinal (GI) MS is attributed to certain factors, such as misdetection due to insufficient endoscopic assessments at the initial presentation with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) as well as the difficulty of making a histologic assessment of leukemic involvement of the GI tract. We herein report a case of AML with gastric involvement and discuss the importance of screening examinations and therapies considering the location of MS and the data of cytogenetic and

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is defined as a tumour mass consisting of myeloid blasts that occurs at an anatomical site other than bone marrow. MS with megakaryocytic differentiation (MSmgk) is extremely rare and its clinicopathological features have not been well described. We reviewed 11 cases in 11 patients of extramedullary mass-forming malignant tumours composed of immature non-lymphoid haematopoietic cells expressing CD41 with or without concurrent bone marrow lesions. The patients consisted of seven men and four women (1.75:1 male-to-female ratio). The mean and median ages at diagnosis were 50

A 19-year-old woman presented to the outpatient department with occasional ocular pain and redness and a perilimbal mass, which she noticed 5 months ago in her left eye. She had no systemic complaints. Ultrasound biomicroscopy of the mass showed a hypoechoic lesion with uniform reflectivity. The patient underwent an excision biopsy and a histopathological analysis revealed features suggestive of a granulocytic sarcoma/myeloid sarcoma. Further haematopathological evaluation confirmed concurrent acute myeloid (myelomonocytic) leukaemia French American British classification M4. There was complet
