Assessing the impact of workload factors on self-assessed sustainability among rural internationally trained physicians.

INTRODUCTION: Rural and remote communities across Canada face persistent physician shortages. Internationally trained physicians (ITPs) have become a critical component of the rural physician workforce, yet little is known about how specific workload characteristics influence physicians' perceptions of workload sustainability and long-term rural retention. Objectives of this study were to identify workload-related factors associated with perceived workload sustainability among ITPs practicing in rural Saskatchewan. METHODS: We conducted a secondary cross-sectional analysis of prospectively co

Perception and reality: assessing the accuracy of self-assessed dysphonia and dysphagia risk in people with cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a chronic condition influenced by aging and lifestyle, and its effects extend to systems involved in voice and swallowing. Age-related changes in these functions are common, and when worsened by CVD, they can lead to isolation, malnutrition, and complications such as aspiration pneumonia. This study investigated how individuals with CVD perceive their risk of dysphonia and dysphagia compared with clinician-administered screening-based assessments. METHODS: Seventy-three participants (mean age 65.2 years; 86.3% male) completed structured s

Self-compassion, self-care, and rhinitis control assessment in patients with allergic rhinitis: a latent profile and mediation analysis.

OBJECTIVE: This study adopted both variable-centered and person-centered approaches to examine the internal relationships between self-compassion and rhinitis control assessment in patients with allergic rhinitis, and to explore heterogeneity in self-compassion using latent profile analysis. METHODS: From February 2026 to April 2026, 419 patients with allergic rhinitis were recruited from three tertiary Grade A hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale, the Rhinitis Control Assessment Test, the Allergic Rhinitis Self-Care Scale, and a demographi

Associations Between 24-Hour Physical Behavior, Self-Perceived Stress, and Coping Self-Efficacy in Everyday Life: Ambulatory Assessment Study.

BACKGROUND: Psychological stress poses a risk to mental and physical health and has become a major public health challenge. As physical behaviors (ie, physical activity, sedentary behavior (SB), and sleep) play a key role in mental well-being, their targeted modification could be an approach to coping with stress in everyday life. Previous studies have primarily either analyzed the associations between isolated physical behaviors and stress-related outcomes or employed cross-sectional designs. Accordingly, there is a need for deeper insights into the within- and between-person associations bet

The effects of self-report rating scales on the assessment of motion sickness.

The assessment of motion sickness typically relies on self-reports. It is unclear whether rating general sickness (e.g., Fast Motion Sickness scale; FMS) or specific symptoms (e.g., Motion Illness Symptoms Classification; MISC) impacts the assessment. Different from prior studies, we investigated how FMS and MISC ratings developed during the same motion exposure. Both scales showed comparable time courses with a similar direction of rating transitions. To investigate the development of nausea versus non-nausea symptoms, participants also rated the MISC2D - a two-dimensional MISC-derivative sep

A digital tool for self-assessment of auditory verbal hallucinations in schizophrenia.

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are experienced by approximately 70 % of patients with schizophrenia and are frequently associated with high levels of distress. Therefore, alleviating hallucinations is an important therapeutic challenge. However, for prescribing a personalized treatment adapted to the patient, an accurate and detailed assessment of AVH is necessary. Until now, there have been no self-evaluations; instead, only scales based on observer ratings have been used to assess AVH. Nevertheless, self-assessments may enhance patient symptom awareness and increase their insight and i

Self-Assessed Personality Traits and Adherence to the COVID-19 Lockdown.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, has forced all countries affected by it to introduce quarantine and isolation to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as masking and distancing. Not everyone is equally willing to follow the rules related to limit the extent of the coronavirus epidemic. This might be connected with personality traits, especially openness, positive attitude, and optimism. Materials and Methods: An online survey was created and completed by participants in April-May 2020. Self-assessment of personality traits and adherence to lockdown

Tablet-Supported Self-Assessment in a Class for Students with Intellectual Disability.

Self-assessment has been shown to have positive effects on students' self-regulated learning strategies and academic achievement. However, self-assessment and self-assessment instruction are under-researched areas among students with intellectual disability. This data-driven qualitative study aimed at examining the self-assessment expressions students with intellectual disability documented in their learning diaries and how the teacher and teaching assistants used video recordings to facilitate students' self-assessments in one Finnish special needs education class. The naturally occurring res

Participants' Assessment of the Impact of Behavioral Health Self-Direction on Recovery.

Self-direction involves managing a flexible budget, selecting and purchasing services and supports to meet individual needs and preferences. An emerging practice in the behavioral health field, self-direction is part of a systemic shift toward person-centered approaches to service provision. To understand the relationship between recovery and self-direction, the authors conducted a content analysis of 30 in-depth interviews with individuals from two self-direction programs in one state. A positive relationship between self-direction and recovery was established. Meeting basic needs for food, c

Holographic assessment of self-phase modulation and blooming in a thermal medium.

The use of a low-power laser beam to characterize self-phase modulation (SPM) and bubble formation during thermal blooming (TB), as well as manipulation of the bubbles, is reported. First, a low-power 633 nm laser beam is used to characterize the induced refractive index profile during SPM of a focused 514 nm pump beam in absorbing liquid media, e.g., a solution of red dye in isopropyl alcohol. The induced phase change is also characterized using digital holography via the 633 nm source as the probe and reference. During TB at higher pump powers, bubble formation occurs in the liquid. Using a

Psychometric assessment of a self-administered version of the Significant Other Survey.

While there are a number of general measures that assess interpersonal and psychological distress experienced by individuals who are in a close relationship with a substance abusing adult, until recently the field has lacked a psychometrically sound, self-administered multidimensional measure explicitly designed to measure the problems of non-substance-abusing adults who are concerned about a substance using loved one. This study examined the psychometric properties of a 54-item, self-administered (SA) version of the Significant Other Survey (SOS), a measure designed to address this gap. The S

Assessment of stimulus generalization gradients in the treatment of self-injurious behavior.

Descriptive and experimental analyses suggested that the self-injurious behavior (SIB) of a 10-year-old girl with severe mental retardation was maintained by attention. Additional analyses identified physical contact as the type of attention maintaining SIB; therefore, we hypothesized that physical proximity of an adult was a discriminative stimulus for SIB. Based on these findings, we systematically varied the distance between the participant and a therapist to assess stimulus generalization. Results showed that rates of SIB varied relative to the distance between the participant and therapis
