Do You See What I See? Researcher-Participant Agreement on Single-Item Measures of Emotion Regulation Behaviors in Borderline Personality Disorder.

Researchers use ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to study a range of behaviors related to psychopathology. However, it is unclear whether brief measures of coping behaviors accurately capture the intended responses. In this secondary analysis of a single-case experimental design, eight individuals with borderline personality disorder (Mage = 21.57, 63% female, 63% Asian American) completed daily diary entries for 12 weeks, along with hourly EMA entries on 2 days. Participants provided qualitative descriptions of their behaviors and classified them into one of five functional categories. I

Correlates of injection-related wounds and skin infections amongst persons who inject drugs and use a syringe service programme: A single center study.

Risk factors associated with wounds and skin infections amongst persons who inject drugs may have changed in the era of fentanyl and now stimulant coinjection. We assessed the number of injection site wounds and skin infections and associated factors amongst 675 persons who inject drugs in a syringe services programme. Of this sample, 173 participants reported a total of 307 wounds and skin infections. Significant factors associated with increased number of wounds and skin infections were age 30 or older, female gender, ever experiencing homelessness, cocaine injection, and injecting between 5

Single-cell analysis shows that adipose tissue of persons with both HIV and diabetes is enriched for clonal, cytotoxic, and CMV-specific CD4+ T cells.

Persons with HIV are at increased risk for diabetes mellitus compared with individuals without HIV. Adipose tissue is an important regulator of glucose and lipid metabolism, and adipose tissue T cells modulate local inflammatory responses and, by extension, adipocyte function. Persons with HIV and diabetes have a high proportion of CX3CR1+ GPR56+ CD57+ (C-G-C+) CD4+ T cells in adipose tissue, a subset of which are cytomegalovirus specific, whereas individuals with diabetes but without HIV have predominantly CD69+ CD4+ T cells. Adipose tissue CD69+ and C-G-C+ CD4+ T cell subsets demonstrate hig

Clinical Outcomes Following Personalized Gut Microbiota-Targeted Therapy in Children with Atopic Dermatitis and Laboratory-Confirmed Dysbiosis: A Single-Arm Prospective Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in which gut-skin axis dysregulation is increasingly implicated. We conducted a prospective pilot study to describe the clinical evolution of pediatric AD following individualized, stool-guided microbiota-targeted therapy and to explore whether baseline dysbiosis markers predict outcomes beyond baseline disease severity. METHODS: Twenty-one children with AD and laboratory-confirmed gut dysbiosis were enrolled consecutively at a tertiary pediatric center in Romania in a single-arm prospective pilot study. Gut

Personalized Management and Timing of Thymectomy in Juvenile Myasthenia Gravis: Insights from Routine Clinical Scale Use in a Single-Center Retrospective Cohort-A Case Series.

Introduction: Juvenile myasthenia gravis (JMG) is a rare autoimmune disorder with a variable clinical course and limited pediatric-specific treatment guidelines. Objective clinical scales, such as the Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis (QMG) Score and the Pediatric Myasthenia Gravis Quality of Life 15 (PM-QOL15), may support individualized management, but their role in routine practice remains underexplored. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 10 seropositive JMG patients followed at a single tertiary neuromuscular clinic between 2014 and 2024. All patients underwent a systematic assessment with

Single-cell Atlas of Penile Cancer Reveals TP53 Mutations as a Driver of an Aggressive Phenotype, Irrespective of Human Papillomavirus Status, and Provides Clues for Treatment Personalization.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: TP53 loss-of-function (TP53LOF) mutations might be a driver of poor prognosis and chemoresistance in both human papillomavirus (HPV)-independent (HPV-) and HPV-associated (HPV+) penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). Here, we aim to describe transcriptomic differences in the PSCC microenvironment stratified by TP53LOF and HPV status. METHODS: We used single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and T-cell receptor sequencing to obtain a comprehensive atlas of the cellular architecture of PSCC. TP53LOF and HPV status were determined by targeted next-generation sequencing an

Theta burst stimulation add on to dialectical behavioral therapy in borderline-personality-disorder: methods and design of a randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial.

Specialized psychotherapeutic treatments like dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) are recommended as first treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD). In recent years, studies have emerged that focus on repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in BPD. Both have independently demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of BPD. Intermitted theta burst stimulation (iTBS), a modified design of rTMS, is thought to increase the excitability of neurons and could be a supplement to psychotherapy in addition to being a standalone treatment. However, no studies to date have investigated

Use of a Single Wearable Sensor to Evaluate the Effects of Gait and Pelvis Asymmetries on the Components of the Timed Up and Go Test, in Persons with Unilateral Lower Limb Amputation.

The Timed Up and Go (TUG) test quantifies physical mobility by measuring the total performance time. In this study, we quantified the single TUG subcomponents and, for the first time, explored the effects of gait cycle and pelvis asymmetries on them. Transfemoral (TF) and transtibial (TT) amputees were compared with a control group. A single wearable inertial sensor, applied to the back, captured kinematic data from the body and pelvis during the 10-m walk test and the TUG test. From these data, two categories of symmetry indexes (SI) were computed: One SI captured the differences between the

Characterizing tumor biology and immune microenvironment in high-grade serous ovarian cancer via single-cell RNA sequencing: insights for targeted and personalized immunotherapy strategies.

BACKGROUND: High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC), the predominant subtype of epithelial ovarian cancer, is frequently diagnosed at an advanced stage due to its nonspecific early symptoms. Despite standard treatments, including cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, significant improvements in survival have been limited. Understanding the molecular mechanisms, immune landscape, and drug sensitivity of HGSOC is crucial for developing more effective and personalized therapies. This study integrates insights from cancer immunology, molecular profiling, and drug sensitivity anal

Multicomponent Behavior Change Technique Intervention for Caregivers of People With Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias: Protocol for a Single-Arm, Personalized Behavioral Trial to Disrupt Sedentary Time.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behavior is associated with negative health outcomes. High levels of sedentary behavior are common among Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) caregivers already at risk of other adverse health effects, yet few interventions target sedentary behavior within this population. There is a need for trials intended to reduce time spent sedentary, which may be achievable by increasing the frequency of disruptions to sedentary time. Remotely delivered behavior change techniques (BCTs) may be effective for disrupting sedentary behavior in this population through short bur

The ResidentialCare Transition Module: a single-blinded randomized controlled evaluation of a telehealth support intervention for family caregivers of persons with dementia living in residential long-term care.

BACKGROUND: Families do not fully disengage from care responsibilities following relatives' admissions to residential long-term (RLTC) care settings such as nursing homes. Caregiver stress, depression, or other key outcomes remain stable or sometimes increase following a relative's RLTC entry. Some interventions have attempted to increase family involvement after institutionalization, but few rigorous studies have demonstrated whether these interventions are effective in helping families navigate the potential emotional and psychological upheaval presented by relatives' transitions to RLTC env

The timing of total thyroidectomy in RET gene mutation carriers could be personalized and safely planned on the basis of serum calcitonin: 18 years experience at one single center.

BACKGROUND: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a calcitonin (CT)-producing C-cell tumor. In hereditary cases, a germline RET mutation is found in 98% of families. Because MTC is cured only if intrathyroidal, prophylactic thyroidectomy is recommended in the gene carrier (GC). AIMS: The aim was to determine whether thyroidectomy performed when stimulated CT becomes detectable is as safe as prophylactic thyroidectomy and to identify the serum CT cutoff able to distinguish intrathyroidal from extrathyroidal MTC. PATIENTS: Eighty-four GC were prospectively enrolled; 53 of the 84 underwent total

Neuromodulation of the Right Motor Cortex of the Lips With Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Reduce Phonological Impairment and Improve Naming in Three Persons With Aphasia: A Single-Case Experimental Design.

PURPOSE: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can enhance aphasia recovery. Most studies have used inhibitory stimulation targeting the right inferior frontal gyrus. However, the motor cortex, observed to contribute to the prediction of aphasia recovery, is involved in word production and could be an appropriate target for rTMS. We aimed to observe behavioral changes in a picture naming task induced by inhibitory rTMS targeting the right motor cortex of the lips in people with poststroke aphasia. METHOD: Using a single-case experimental design, we included three participants wi
