Developing Correctional Policy, Practice, and Clinical Care Considerations for Incarcerated Transgender Patients Through Collaborative Stakeholder Engagement.

Transgender persons are at increased risk of victimization during incarceration and have unique health care needs. We convened a symposium of 27 key stakeholders to develop consensus on correctional policy, practice, and clinical care considerations for incarcerated transgender persons. Participants included formerly justice-involved transgender persons, correctional leaders, government authorities, academicians, advocates, health care providers, and expert consultants. Consensus considerations were developed in four areas: correctional practices that promote safety and respectful interactions

Engaging a community to enable disease-centric data sharing with the NF Data Portal.

A significant challenge facing rare disease communities is finding a sufficient quantity and variety of data to develop and test disease-specific hypotheses. Here we describe an approach to data sharing in which stakeholders from the neurofibromatosis (NF) research community collaborated to develop a disease-focused data portal with the goal of supporting scientists within and outside the community as well as clinicians and patient advocates.

The trouble with difference: Challenging and reproducing inequality in a biomedical HIV research community engagement process.

Community engagement in biomedical trials is to ensure ethical conduct in research, yet it has been criticised regarding power and exploitation of vulnerable communities where trials take place. This makes community engagement processes complex. We report on one example of how the global politics of biomedical research and local issues of contemporary politics and identities intertwine in a community engagement process. These issues emerged during observations in staff training at a biomedical HIV prevention trial centre in South Africa from September to November 2015. Within the practices of

Conservation beyond protected areas: Understanding stakeholder perspectives on other effective area-based conservation measures.

Other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) serve as an important tool to recognise diverse areas for their contributions to conservation, yet implementation remains slow. A key barrier to implementation is the lack of engagement with stakeholders who manage these areas and thus uncertainty about how best to secure their participation. We interviewed stakeholders representing different land uses that could be candidate OECMs in Australia, to capture their perspectives on OECMs and the factors that may motivate or deter their engagement. Stakeholder responses revealed an openness t

What Should We Aim for when Addressing Uncertainty from Serious Illness? A Stakeholder Focus Group Study.

BACKGROUND: Uncertainty is ubiquitous in serious illness. It defines experiences of diagnosis, current illness, and future prognosis and is experienced across physical, psychological, and temporal domains. Uncertainty impacts patients, carers, healthcare professionals and health systems; it cannot be eliminated, but it remains unclear how best to address it. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to identify core goals and approaches when addressing irreducible uncertainty in serious illness to inform the development and implementation of effective interventions. We aimed to answer the question, "What should in

"Assessing inclusiveness in Team Europe Initiatives: a mixed-methods study of EU-Africa health cooperation".

BACKGROUND: Team Europe Initiatives have become a central mechanism for the European Union's engagement as a global development actor. Grounded in principles of inclusive partnership, the initiatives aim to improve the effectiveness and visibility of European contributions. However, questions remain about the geographical inclusiveness of health-related initiatives and the extent to which they incorporate local priorities and actors. OBJECTIVES: This study examines how health-related Team Europe Initiatives are distributed geographically and explores stakeholder perceptions of their inclusive

Leader and organizational stakeholder perspectives on healthcare responsibility for addressing Social and Digital Determinants of Health (SD-DOH) in the United States: a scoping review and qualitative evidence synthesis.

BACKGROUND: U.S. health systems are increasingly expected to address social and digital determinants of health (SD-DOH) as part of equity-oriented transformation. While prior research documents growth in equity-oriented initiatives, less is known about how leaders and stakeholders frame healthcare organizations' responsibilities for this work, and whether those responsibility perspectives align with observed equity-oriented action. To address this gap, this study integrates two complementary conceptual lenses: (1) four strategic levers used by health systems to address SD-DOH: enabling service

Implementation of a lung cancer screening program at an urban safety-net hospital: enabling solutions via stakeholder engagement.

Lung cancer screening (LCS) has been shown to reduce lung cancer mortality; however, numerous obstacles impede the successful development and expansion of LCS programs, particularly in underserved communities where uptake is limited. Neighborhood disadvantage plays a significant role, as numerous studies have elucidated the influence of race, ethnicity, income, and other measures of social disadvantage on LCS, as well as lung nodule surveillance programs. Successful development and expansion of LCS and nodule programs in inner-city hospitals can be an important means of improving health equity

Towards monitoring of global health research: an exploratory analysis of transparency and stakeholder engagement.

OBJECTIVES: Monitoring systems exist for clinical research transparency in high-income countries, but systematic assessment of these practices in global health (GH) research (GHR) is limited. We evaluated methods for monitoring GHR transparency and engagement. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. DATA SOURCES: Three sources were used: (a) ClinicalTrials.gov, (b) publications from 20 journals with 'international' or 'global' in the title and (c) outputs from selected GH funder websites. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: From ClinicalTrials.gov, we selected 200 interventional trials on maternal health and tube

Microplanning improves stakeholders' perceived capacity and engagement to implement lymphatic filariasis mass drug administration.

BACKGROUND: Achieving adequate mass drug administration (MDA) coverage for lymphatic filariasis is challenging. We sought to improve stakeholder engagement in MDA planning and increase subsequent MDA coverage through a series of microplanning workshops. METHODOLOGY: Prior to the 2018 MDA, Haiti's Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) and partners conducted 10 stakeholder microplanning workshops in metropolitan Port-au-Prince. The objectives of the workshops were to identify and address gaps in geographic coverage of supervision areas (SAs); review past MDA performance and propose st

Defining inappropriate thyroid biopsy?-Proposed definition based on clinical evidence and stakeholder engagement.

PURPOSE: Identify factors that can be used to assess the appropriateness of a thyroid biopsy and propose a pathway to define inappropriate thyroid biopsies in practice. METHODS: We identified factors utilized in clinical guidelines and existing literature to determine the clinical indications for a thyroid biopsy. Subsequently, we assembled a multidisciplinary panel of experts, including patients, clinicians, researchers, and quality experts, to integrate these factors and develop a pathway for assessing the appropriateness of thyroid biopsies. RESULTS: Through literature review and stakehol

A context-driven approach through stakeholder engagement to introduce a digital emergency obstetric and newborn care register into routine obstetric health care services in Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: Emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) in Bangladesh focusses on maternal health, whereby it addresses childbirth and postpartum complications to ensure women's health and well-being. It was transitioned to a digital platform to overcome challenges with the paper-based EmONC register and we conducted implementation research to assess the outcome. Here we outline the stakeholder engagement process integral to the implementation research process. METHODS: We adopted a four-step stakeholder engagement model based on the identification, sensitisation, involvement, and engagement

Addressing barriers to global multidisciplinary stakeholder inclusivity: Lessons from global orofacial cleft research priority setting.

BACKGROUND: Inclusivity in research priority setting is fundamental to capturing the opinion of all stakeholders in a research area. Globally, experienced healthcare workers often have deep insights that could impactfully shape future research, and a lack of their involvement in formal research and publications could mean that their voices are insufficiently represented. We aimed to modify the well-established Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative (CHNRI) methodology to address barriers to inclusivity, which are particularly relevant in healthcare that requires highly multidisciplinar
