H-type tracheo-oesophageal fistula is an uncommon type of tracheo-oesophageal malformation. Acute gastric volvulus is another infrequent pathology in children. They rarely present together. We report the case of a toddler with acute gastric volvulus possibly secondary to an undiagnosed H-type tracheo-oesophageal fistula. The fistula was suspected due to persistent gastric distention observed during volvulus detorsion. This kind of tracheo-oesophageal fistula often presents with subtle symptoms making early diagnosis difficult.Acute gastric volvulus is a life-threatening condition. Gastric diste

Gastric volvulus is an uncommon cause of upper gastrointestinal obstruction that occurs when the stomach twists along its vertical (organoaxial) or horizontal (mesenteroaxial) axis. Its rarity combined with its non-specific presentation makes gastric volvulus a diagnostic challenge, especially when the volvulus occurs without underlying structural abnormality such as hiatal hernia. The organoaxial type comprises most cases of this rare diagnosis. Few cases of mesenteroaxial volvulus have been reported in children and even fewer in adults. Here, we present a rare case of acute, idiopathic mesen

Gastric volvulus is a rare condition that occurs when the stomach twists either in an organoaxial or mesenteroaxial direction. In patients with recurrent episodes of volvulus, standard therapy is surgical correction. Many patients, however, are not candidates for surgical therapy because of comorbid conditions or advanced age. Our aim was to determine if the insertion of a single percutaneous gastrostomy tube placement would assist in management of gastric volvulus in patients not able to undergo surgical therapy. The alpha-loop maneuver was used to reduce gastric volvulus in three elderly pat

A rare case of herniation through triple defects in the diaphragm with volvulus of the stomach is reported. Herniation with gastric volvulus was diagnosed preoperatively. Three diaphragmatic defects were detected at surgery. Repair of the defects after reduction of the abdominal contents resulted in an uneventful recovery.

The traditional surgical treatment of chronic gastric volvulus involves laparotomy for derotation of the stomach and its fixation to the patients. We describe a 36-year-old man with organoaxial gastric volvulus who was treated successfully with laparoscopic gastropexy. He is asymptomatic four months later.

The aim of the present case study is to raise concern on the proper diagnostic approach of acute gastric volvulus (AGV) cases, in which, the key issue is the timely diagnosis and the prompt therapeutic intervention. After thorough and systematic research of the current literature, it is concluded that early diagnosis remains challenging, while there is no relevant publication with emphasis on the contribution of ultrasonography to the diagnostic documentation of AGV. A 6 years old boy was admitted to our Department due to repeatedly non bilious vomiting and food refusal during the last 72 hour

A case of chronic gastric organoaxial volvulus, gastroesophageal reflux, esophagitis, and chronic anemia is presented. Reflux esophagitis and chronic anemia have not been reported previously as clinical signs associated with gastric volvulus in a child. A Meckel's scan is used to diagnose the displaced stomach.

We described a case of a man in his 90s with gastric volvulus of which point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) contributed to a rapid diagnosis. The patient had Borchardt's triad and POCUS showed a distended and fluid-filled stomach, which allowed us to strongly suspect gastric volvulus even prior to the abdominal CT scan. Gastric volvulus is a rare but life-threatening condition that may lead to tissue ischaemia and perforation. Therefore, a prompt diagnosis is extremely important. This case suggests that POCUS can be a powerful tool when clinicians suspect gastric volvulus.

Acute gastric volvulus is a rare yet life-threatening condition with mortality ranging from 30% to 50% if not treated promptly. The stomach rotates on itself causing strangulation precipitating necrosis, cameron lesions, and perforation. Long-standing paraesophageal hernia is a common cause of organoaxial gastric volvulus.

Very few cases of coexisting organoaxial gastric and sigmoid volvuli have been reported. In here we describe 1 such case. Our patient, a 92-year-old man, was treated with a flexible sigmoidoscopy with decompression for his sigmoid volvulus. For the gastric volvulus, the patient was initially treated with an upper endoscopic gastric decompression and subsequently treated with a laparoscopic anterior gastropexy. After the gastropexy, the patient developed bleeding and ischemia of the stomach, which is a rare complication due to the stomach's rich blood supply. This case report reiterates the nee

Gastric volvulus is an infrequently encountered clinical entity characterized by abnormal rotation of the stomach around an axis made by its two fixed portions, the cardia and pylorus. Surgical treatment by anterior gastropexy is usually indicated for chronic gastric volvulus to prevent complications and treat the underlying pathology. We report a patient with chronic gastric volvulus who was treated with laparoscopic anterior and diaphragmatic gastropexy. Laparoscopy not only identifies underlying predisposing conditions but also allows effective fixation for gastric volvulus. Laparoscopic ap

Gastric volvulus is a rare condition that may present with various symptoms and may occur as an acute or chronic condition. Signs and symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and chest pain. It is imperative to recognize acute gastric volvulus in a timely fashion, since a delay in diagnosis may result in foregut obstruction and increased risk of strangulation, if not recognized and treated promptly. Additionally, secondary complications that are equally life-threatening, such as cardiac arrhythmias, can occur. For this very reason, it is important to highlight gastric volvulus as

Two dogs developed gastric dilatation-volvulus 2 and 17 months, respectively, after splenectomy for treatment of splenic torsion. Splenic displacement and torsion may stretch the gastric ligaments, allowing increased mobility of the stomach. After splenectomy, an anatomic void may be created in the cranioventral part of the abdomen, contributing to the mobility of the stomach. Veterinarians treating dogs with isolated splenic torsion may wish to consider prophylactic gastropexy at splenectomy, to reduce the chance of future gastric dilatation-volvulus. Prophylactic gastropexy should be done on

Gastric outlet obstruction initiated by acute gastric volvulus is rare but potentially fatal. An unusual case of intrathoracic acute gastric volvulus complicated by distal stomach and transverse colon herniation into retrocardial space is reported. Prompt clinical diagnosis was followed by emergency laparoscopic de-rotation and gastropexy.

Gastric volvulus was surgically corrected in three patients with asplenic syndrome associated with severe cardiac anomalies. One patient, whose stomach was necrotic, died postoperatively with an intra-abdominal abscess. The other two patients have remained well. Four intra-abdominal abnormalities were found in the three asplenic patients: (1) absent gastrophrenic ligaments; (2) absent gastrosplenic ligaments; (3) deficient fixation of the pylorus, and (4) proximity of the pylorus to the cardia. Cardiac surgeons and pediatricians who treat the asplenic syndrome should be aware of extracardiac a

BACKGROUND: Late-recognized congenital left diaphragmatic hernia may have a bad prognosis when it is revealed by perforation or volvulus of the herniated viscera.
CASE REPORT: A 20 month-old boy was admitted for vomiting and abdominal pain. X-rays showed left diaphragmatic hernia and the patient was operated on with the diagnosis of volvulus of the stomach. Surgery showed hernia through the posterolateral segments of the diaphragm with spleen volvulus into the sac, requiring splenectomy before reduction of the hernia and closure of the diaphragmatic defect.
CONCLUSION: This is the fifth repo

Gastric volvulus is an uncommon condition in which an acquired torsion of the stomach results in acute or chronic gastrointestinal symptoms. We report a case of an intrathoracic organoaxial gastric volvulus presenting as a cholestatic syndrome, secondary to partial obstruction of the common bile duct by the diaphragm at the level of the hiatus. This entity has not been reported.

Intrathoracic stomach is a rare and serious congenital abnormality. The anomaly may be complicated by gastric volvulus and can lead to ischemic gastric infarction in the neonate. If diagnosed antenatally, neonatal management can be planned in advance so as to reduce morbidity. This anomaly must be differentiated from the more common congenital diaphragmatic hernia, as associated pulmonary hypoplasia is common in the latter and rare with gastric herniation. We report an infant born to a mother with Marfan's syndrome with the antenatal diagnosis of intrathoracic stomach. The ultrasound and magne
