Acute effect of taping on plantar pressure characteristics in athletes with exercise-induced leg pain: a description and comparison of groups.

OBJECTIVES: Foot pronation is considered as a potential risk factor of lower leg overuse injury. This study aimed to identify plantar pressure characteristics of elite athletes with exercise-induced leg pain in throwing athletic disciplines, and to verify the acute effect of taping for restricting foot pronation by analyzing the plantar pressure characteristics. METHODS: This study was designed as a description and comparison of throwing athletic athletes. Participants were divided into exercise-induced leg pain (ELP group, n = 17) and control groups (CON group, n = 14). Plantar pressure vari

Comparing the effects of Kinesio and dynamic tapes on plantar pressure and postural stability in the pre- and post-fatigue phases: The case of men with pes planus.

BACKGROUND: Pes planus (PP) is a common foot arch disorder. The present research was conducted to compare the effectiveness of Kinesio tape (KT) and dynamic tape (DT) in treating postural fluctuations during the pre-and post-fatigue phases in males with PP. METHODS: In this crossover study, 35 men with PP were recruited. The participants attended intervention sessions on three different days. At the onset of each session, one condition-either a session without taping (WT), KT use, or DT application-was randomly selected. Afterward, plantar pressure and postural fluctuations were recorded befo

The role of suture cutout in the failure of meniscal root repair during the early post-operative period: a biomechanical study.

PURPOSE: To assess the role of suture cutout in the mechanics of failure of the repaired posterior meniscal root during the early post-operative period when using sutures of different shape. METHODS: Twenty medial porcine menisci were randomized in two groups depending on the suture shape used to repair the posterior root: thread or tape. The sutured menisci were subjected to cyclic loading (1000 cycles, (10, 30) N) followed by load-to-failure testing. Residual displacements, stiffness, and ultimate failure load were determined. During tests, the tissue-suture interface was recorded using a h

Comparative efficacy of the dorsal application of Kinesio tape and splinting for carpal tunnel syndrome: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) symptoms are problematic especially when signs and symptoms are not substantial enough to require surgical intervention. Conservative treatments have mixed effectiveness, yet are one of the best options for mild to moderate CTS. Kinesio tape is an emerging modality, as it provides biomechanical support while allowing movement. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of dorsal application of Kinesio tape on occupational performance as measured by pain and function in individuals with mild to moderate CTS, as compared with the ac

Beyond support: exploring the dynamic and static biomechanical changes induced by preventive ankle taping: a novel cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: In sports, 80% of all ankle injuries are sprains of the external compartment. Functional bandages are usually used preventively, specially in individuals with a history of lateral ankle injuries. To this day, the actual benefits of such taping remain unknown as important modifications are introduced in the ankle biomechanics. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study is to describe the biomechanical processes underlying these effects, such as modification during stance times, balance, contact surface and maximum and average pressures in the rearfoot, forefoot and midfoot, using a

Cardiac changes during 2-deoxy-d-glucose test. A study in patients with selective vagotomy and pyloroplasty.

2-Deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG), a potent vagal stimulator, is used for testing the completeness of surgical vagotomies. 2-DG has however not yet been employed routinely for the postoperative testing of bagotomized patients because of possible cardiotoxic effects. In a previous study, we have shown the effects of 2-DG on the resting ECG in 48 patients. We did not observe any significant changes besides nonspecific T wave flattening and QT prolongation. The present investigation included 37 additional patients. In 27 patients, a continuous ECG tape recording for detection of arrhythmias was performed …

Artificial intelligence for the measurement of vocal stereotypy.

Both researchers and practitioners often rely on direct observation to measure and monitor behavior. When these behaviors are too complex or numerous to be measured in vivo, relying on direct observation using human observers increases the amount of resources required to conduct research and to monitor the effects of interventions in practice. To address this issue, we conducted a proof of concept examining whether artificial intelligence could measure vocal stereotypy in individuals with autism. More specifically, we used an artificial neural network with over 1,500 minutes of audio data from

Effects of two different knee tape procedures on lower-limb kinematics and kinetics in recreational runners.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Mulligan's tape (MT) and kinesio tape (KT) with no tape (NT) on hip and knee kinematics and kinetics during running. Twenty-nine female recreational runners performed a series of 'run-throughs' along a 10-m runway under the three taping conditions. Two force plates and a 14-camera Vicon motion analysis system (Oxford Metrics, Inc., Oxford, UK) captured kinematic and kinetic data for each dependent variable from ground contact to toe off. Comparisons of each dependent variable under three taping conditions were assessed through Statistical

[Use of recording methods and sound analysis of cough in the study of sound phenomena associated with respiration].

The objective registration of the human body functions is one of the main tasks of the modern and prospective medicine. The registration of the heart, brain, muscles etc. activity have a long tradition. The registration of sound processes, for instance coughing was not solved completely despite their diagnostic importance. The authors worked out a new non invasive and precise method for cough sound registration and analysis which allows evaluation of the sound pattern, intensity and time duration. Application of this method for registration and analysis of the cry of new-borns gave rise to dou
